It was a challenging project as we hoped to accomplish a lot on a tight budget. Lucinda walked the property and listened carefully to our wish list. The design Lucinda presented to us a few weeks later was distinctive and beautiful. Her creative ideas enhanced function and privacy, allowing our city lot to live large. Sure, she offers full design services (and works with a great install team to bring those plans to life), but all I really needed was a little coaching - just some conversation to help me get things started and a helping hand to put me on the right track, and Lucinda came through. I needed to spruce up the entry area of my apartment, and since I am really bad with plants, my feeble attempt at a potted garden was so underwhelming that it qualifies as pathetic. I have seen the work Spirit Garden Design has done for others in the city and was a little uncertain, because my needs were small in comparison to the magnificent transformations Lucinda has performed for others. She was receptive, and enthusiastic about my little project and full of innovative ways to provide privacy, variety and aesthetic in a very cohesive, but low maintenance way. She gave step by step instructions for maintenance, and drew these wonderful little pictures (to scale) of what the garden would look like when it was finished. I called Lucinda and convinced her to make the drive to Lynnwood, just on the northern edge of her sea. My wife and I met with her, we walked around the backyard and talked about the various options. We agreed on a price for her to develop a plan. Two weeks later we met to review the plan, which we both loved. After looking over the initial plan for a few days, we came up with some modifications. I emailed the changes to Lucinda and two weeks later, we had the final design. Working with Lucinda was easy, she's bright and clearly enjoys what she does. She clearly enjoyed working on our 9000+ sq. ft. backyard. The plants that she selected for us are both familiar to us as well as some new. Lucinda is awesome! We recently moved into a new home with a couple small plots for gardening in our front and back. Being our first home and gardening novices, we had no idea what was already planted and what to replace. All we did know was it was a bit of a mess. We booked out Lucinda to do a design for us that was as maintenance free as two non-gardeners could get away with, bee-friendly, and northwest local. The garden we got is beautiful. It has many different types of plants that bloom at different times, making it lovely throughout the year (or at least time when I want to go outside and sit). Additionally, since we don't know what we are doing, but need some help in keeping up our gorgeous yard, we have booked her twice to do a walk through. It is efficient and informative. Lucinda, the principal of the business, is professional, friendly, competent and reliable. She transformed our shabby, chaotic yard into a beautiful, well thought out landscape of plants and shrubs. She is an extremely good listener and takes the necessary time up front so as to make sure she provides a plan in line with your specific tastes and expectations. She does not push her own agenda. However, she will let you know if you are wanting something that won't be in your best interest. We now will have something to look at all year round as she helped us choose plants that will bloom at various times of the year and that are of course suitable for the sunny and shady parts of our yard. As for the cost of her services, the resulting value far exceeds her fees. In fact, we went over budget on the hard scape rock work before Lucinda started her work. We had to scale back the scope of Lucinda's services. She worked with us graciously and we absolutely love the outcome. Wow. Amazing to read all these positive reviews. Our experience was a little different: Engaged Lucinda, moved dates later at her suggestion, agreed on deadlines, and then: radio silence. Checked in to see how it was going and she hadn't begun the project. Assured us all would be well and deadlines would be met. Checked in again for a progress report - again, she hadn't started, only this time she indicated she was running behind and couldn't tell us when she'd be done. We lost 90 days before we folded our hand and went with another designer. Engage her at your own risk. read more

Lucinda did an amazing redesign of our 1977 vintage landscaping. The design included, as requested, low maintenance new plantings while retaining the older, beautiful rhododendrons. The project plan provides an open feel to the front of the house including blue stone pavers and a new, wider driveway. Planter boxes were added to the rear garden with an updated transition to the deck steps. During the process we were kept informed and involved. Lucinda is an expert in Yard design and maintenance. Two years after buying our house muddling through the yard we hired Lucinda to come in and educate us on how to maintain the landscaping. She literally handed me a book (3 ring binder) with detailed instructions on how my yard is laid out. What needs to be pruned, when and how. When we started looking for a landscape designer, we asked our friends/family if they would recommend who they hired. No one recommended their designer because by the end of the 1st year everyone was unhappy w/their garden. I am so delighted that I hired Lucinda to help me with my garden. I recently bought my first house and I now have a garden/patio for the first time. I had no idea how to start. Lucinda was incredibly helpful in listening to how I wanted to use the space and the coming up with a collaborative design that I love.
