The staff at Kristi's was so friendly and our daughter especially loved Shadow (the sweetest black lab mix). You can't beat the ROI on the rental price to fun ratio. This allowed us to have one of the coolest experiences ever with our 3 year old daughter. I highly recommend renting a sled and trying it yourself and with your kids. She just rode with one of us. We personally had way more fun with the sled and would rent 2 sleds and skip the board if we were to do it again.

First off, the store is massive and has just about everything a Coloradan would ever need for outdoor festivities. The mission: rent a sandboard for Great Sand Dunes National Park. Consider the mission accomplished! I spoke with three different people over my two visits (one to rent, and the other to return) and they were just so damn friendly. Knowledgeable, helpful, and encouraging for a first time sand boarder like myself. You can rent sand boards or sleds for $20 a day. Totally worth it, especially if you're staying in Alamosa. Other places offer rentals (many not near the park and many not open during winter). Kristi Mountains Sports earned their 5-star rating just by being good people. Thanks again for your help!!!

We rented a tandem kayak for $40 For the day. It came in 3 pieces and fit in our minivan. It came with two paddles and two life jackets and two kushy seats. Jessica owns the shop and wants to help outdoor enthusiasts have more fun in the valley. She is knowledgeable and enthusiastic and accommodating. She's working on updating maps in the area and wants to point the way to beautiful and interesting places in Cuchara and La Veta... and all along Highway 12.

Snacks. Fishing licenses. Cool swag. What's not to love? We mainly needed ice. Like every day. Driving 45 minutes to Alamosa was NOT going to happen, PLUS we were really liking the Fox Creek Store. A few stand outs (for me) were the Fiah Stickers. Minnesota girl here so am always delighted to see a cool fish. ;) ICE. Sodas. Camping and fishing supplies. Facial tissues (for the New Area Allergies.) Grab an Amish Pie (or two. or 3. Can't remember if I ate 4 or 6?) A light and absolutely delicious pastry filled with fruit. I had Strawberry - rhubarb. I also had to get a big homemade apple cinnamon tear away bread. Yes... it had a nice drizzle of frosting. It was a great addition to breakfast and made a great snack. I think what really stood out for me though was The People. Steven, the owner, was often on-site and insisted on carrying the ice to the car. Nice guy. I mean, REALLY NICE GUY. And his family work the cash register and counter. I could go on and on about things I loved about the store but the bottom line is simple: nice people. Convenient. FAIR competition pricing. Thoughtful inventory. Propane. A dump station. And licenses. I will actually miss theu daily trip to Fox Creek now that I'm back in Arizona. Oh!!! You not only will be supporting a local small business, but local, independent artisans. One guy makes the flies. A woman makes beautiful jewelry. If you wander around, you'll see handmade boot cleaners, quality knives, and so much more. Robbie went above and beyond. He spent a ton of time with us, rigged up our rod, recommended the right flies for the conditions, shared some great tips, and even took the time to teach Leo how to tie on the flies himself. I'm happy to say Leo caught his very first fish today and there's no way we would have done it without Robbie's help. In a world where great customer service can be hard to find, this was truly exceptional.
