This review should actually be a police report. It will be…read morelong but worth the read and will hopefully save you from falling victim of extremely poor, if not FRADULENT, service at the DECK STORE. The DECK STORE owes us a substantial amount of money and they refuse to issue the refund. The backstory - In June of 2022, we placed an order for over $16K with their front-line rep Connor. Unfortunately, when it arrived, I realized I had ordered the wrong color so I immediately reached out and was advised that I could order new boards and return the existing boards. Easy. Chris offered that I could save money on the delivery by having them retrieve the old boards when they dropped off the new ones and even went as far as to confirm there would be no additional charges including a restocking fee. He informed me that I would have to pay upfront and they would return my money when the boards were back at their warehouse. Fast forward to August when the new boards arrived, Chris assisted with the delivery, dropped off the new boards and took the original. I was told by Chris that the refund would take approximately one week. When I followed-up we were informed that they could not refund to my CC because they would be flagged for MONEY LAUNDERING and a cheque would have to be sent?! Since August 2022 we have contacted the Deck Store over 17 times via email/phone and have made four visits to their Calgary location. The owner, JIM SLATER (Edmonton) and his sons Simon and Adrian have been non-existent and refuse to contact us or make any attempt to resolve. We have talked to Warren and he basically tells us a different story every time we speak to him - essentially an attempt to placate us with lies. We have been told they couldn't send the cheque because they didn't have our address. Odd, considering they have made two deliveries to our home address and have never tried to confirm this on any of the 17+ calls and visits. They have blamed their employee Chris for giving us "wrong" information because he is a seasonal worker. It is alarming how fast and comfortable they were in throwing him under the bus. The DECK STORE is accountable for who they hire and all employees are the face of your company and should speak your values. They have told us that their accountant is only in once a week, then only a few times a month and then hasn't been in for a while. They have told us on two occasions that our cheque was in the mail. That was several weeks ago. This is DISGUSTING and CRIMINAL and the DECK STORE SHOULD NOT BE IN BUSINESS. This is not a small amount of money and we will NOT STOP until we are fully refunded for the product, we returned damaged free. JIM SLATER, as a local business owner you should be ashamed of yourself for taking advantage of customers that have supported your business. Do the right thing and immediately refund the amount owning directly back to my credit card and for the people reading this, if you ever want to invest in composite decking, do yourself a favor and go to the Home Depot. You will get the same product for the same price and I guarantee there will be no issues and no shady behavior.

We were given an estimate and a timeline for our deck project and Mike (from Spring Mountain Developments), true to his word delivered! My wife and I purchased a patio cover about 2.5 years ago from Desert Sun. We had an estimate done…read moreby a personable young man named Blake, and a couple weeks later they arranged for an installer to come to our home and complete the work. FF to today and we decided to have our deck closed in and turned into a three season room. We again contacted Desert Sun, and they sent out Blake to give us an estimate to enclose our deck. The estimate came in just shy of nine thousand dollars. That means the entire cost of the three season room was close to $16,000. They also wanted a 50% deposit upon ordering, with the balance due when the parts were picked up. Blake said they expected the parts for the room to be in around 1.5 to 2.5 weeks. This is where things, IMO went downhill It took 5 weeks to get the parts. I kept calling every week after waiting almost 20 days, and they had an excuse every time I called. I called on Monday, then they said it should be in Wednesday. I called back Wednesday, then they said it should be Friday. This went on for another two weeks. Finally the parts arrived and when I tried to pay the balance (with MasterCard) the owner said I couldn't because of the fees he would have to pay. (not my problem). I assumed since I put the deposit on with credit, I could pay the balance with credit. We wanted to do this to collect AirMiles on the purchase. The owner of Desert Sun, Bob was not the easiest to deal with when it came to this issue. What he came up with in the end was that I pay $75 dollars (50% of what the credit card company would charge him). The end result was I paid the balance by cheque which he allowed me to post date by one week. Fast forward to the next week, and we had our original installer (Mike) who built our patio cover build our sun room. I can't say enough good things about Mike. He's very good at what he does and is very particular. What happened near the end of the install is what gets interesting. The sun room kit that was ordered was short a window. Plus we added another one. When Mike the installer called Bob the owner he was placed on SPEAKER so I could hear his thoughts on windows. Mike said he was on speaker, but Bob never caught it. Mike began to tell Bob about the windows and started to say that I didn't want to pay much for them. That's when Bob called me "A CHEAP SON OF A BITCH". I fail to see how I'm a cheap S.O.B. especially since I just gave him close to 9 thousand dollars. I got on the phone after him calling me that, the conversation started by me saying "Hello Bob, it's Ed the cheap son of a bitch" he apologized and Mike and I had a serious conversation about Bob. Is it me, or should you not be calling your customers names ?????? In the end the sun room looks great (Thanks to Mike). As for me recommending Desert Sun Patios, maybe a couple of months ago. If you need an installer though, I can get you in touch with Mike. Oh yeah still waiting on my two windows. They said 5 days, and it's now 7.
