Well here we are! (And there you are and there over there he is. Lol) Now you may have gotten tattooed from other shops (and no I'm not talking about your cousins attic with a razor blade.) but there is one shop in the top of Olympus that towers over the northwest section of Merika. (*looks up into the mountain with the sun burning your eyes.* "ah! My eyes they burn!!!.... FROM AWESOMENESS!") So get comfy, shaved and ready for the stencil of this review! Atmosphere: Well it feels like a squirrel took a wrong turn and ended up in the Willy Wonka section where they inspected nuts because this place is amazingly nut! (Places Spider monkeys on the nut scale.. *processing...ding!*... it's... aaaaaa... good nut. Lol [Now a days that means something completely different. These kids and their analogies! *Shakes cane to the sky only to be blinded by the sun again* "Gosh darn it!!" Lol]) There is so much Art and trinkets on the walls, that I almost 83.4% go crossed eye from trying to take in all of the art. (Now I'm starting to wonder why my tattoos end up in different parts of my body... O.O) The place is immaculate and the only litter ever created was when I accidentally dropped a wrapper on the ground and that's actually the only time I saw the mess that it really was. (Due to my wrapper. Don't worry I picked it right away.) Each artist section is covered by their art creations and a spin to it. (Kinda like a college dorm room but instead of poster it's amazing art.) Let's talk about the restroom because just like everyone (which I read in a wise book a long time ago and I live by it daily) they poop. *tear falls done* she's... breathtaking, the seat is wiped and the sink is clean, there's art on the wall and my backside cinnamon rolls thank you for caring for my donkey. Customer Service/Product: Now you may have seen a lot of 80s through 90s movies where they depict the tattoo artist as tattooed, pierced and mean! Well let me tell you it's nothing like that. These people are tattooed, pierced and.. friendly! O.O I've personally been working with Skrappy for 94.7% of my tattoos and he has not disappointed me! (YET!.... I'm just joking. I don't think he will. No pressure.. [ALL PRESSURE!!... I'm just joshing you.. *cough* O.O!!!]) They have a professional outlook and making sure you have what you want and taking the correct steps to set up their station and make it a safe environment to be tatted in. (Plus Skrappy has the softest hands there. Well that's what he told me and I'm sticking to it. Lol.) The tattoos produced here are worth every cent and they actually care what you want, what's doable, and what's not. They won't curve the truth and honestly I love seeing that in a business. Plus the majority of the time while I'm getting tattooed were mostly telling jokes, catching up or just staring deep each other's eyes. Lol. Conclusion: You ever just get so frustrated to not getting what you want? Ever want quality work that's worth your money? Ever needed a clean safe environment where professional who have done this for years know what they're doing? Ever ask Samantha Boiser from cubicle 36-B and get rejected so now you take the stairs instead of the elevator just in case of the off chance you get stuck with her in it like last Tuesday and she brings it out and tells you why she said no so you end up crying in front of her so she just awkwardly gets off a floor earlier!?!... if you checked yes in one of these things *thinks..* yes.. if you have checked one in any of these. I just moved here in August, due to my husband's profession, and for our two year anniversary I had asked my husband if I could have a piece on my arm covered up as a gift. (Disclaimer: It was my fault the piece got infected as I got sick and couldn't take care of it, therefore infection set in.) Well we didn't know anyone and we saw ink shops everywhere. So I told him I am just going to look on Yelp and see who the people think is the best. So I put in tattoo shops and low and behold SpiderMonkey was at that very top with 4 stars. I looked no further. So my husband and I went down there, and I was use to just walking in where I am from. I had the photos of what I was going for to see if it could be done the way I wanted or if I had to go back to the drawing board. (Disclaimer: I marked on appointment only no, but most artists are booked up each and everyday, unless someone cancels and then they have a cancellation list, so the probability of you just walking and getting a tattoo is about as rare as seeing a snow leopard in your front yard.) Anyhow, I looked at the profiles and I completely fell in love with Nickhole (pronounced Nicole). I always believe you should have some type of connection with your artist so that you can both convey to each easily and without frustration. Nickhole, is an AMAZING artist. She is focused, driven, pure, grounded and embodies greatness. Now don't get me wrong, all the artist there are phenomenal, but I am talking about my artist. She doesn't do tattoos. She creates art, it just happens that my skin is her canvas. Her vision for what you had in mind takes it to whole other level. Everything she does is a masterpiece. When God was handing out talent he gave her an extra 5 doses. About the shop: It is clean and groovy. Sometimes I feel like I am walking into that shop on Odds and Oddities (I think that is what it is called.) They have so many neat things that catch your eye and every time you go it seems there is something new that you want to touch or at which you catch yourself gazing. There are many options for getting a tattoo in Olympia. After looking at most of the places in town and getting a tattoo at one other place, I have come to the conclusion that this place is the best - at least for me. Not that there aren't other great places in town, but this is the one I will go back to. I have gotten two tattoos there, one by Caine and one by an artist that is no longer there. I was very impressed by Caine's artistic work on the piece I wanted. His philosophy on transforming another artist's work into a tattoo, and maintaining the integrity of the work, was exactly what I needed. Got recommended here by a friend. Didn't regret going here one bit! Quality tattoo artists and a clean shop. All the guys here do an amazing job on anything you can think of. Their website has a bunch of artwork and tattoo examples if you wanna see some of the stuff they've done but I'm telling you this is THE place to go to in Olympia! Got my tattoos done by Matt. He's a quality guy that cares a lot about his artwork and tattooing and he has a passion for it. Bryan is amazing and he owns the shop. My husband wanted his first tattoo - so we headed to Spidermonkey, as it was local, and we read good reviews on this place. First we went in and looked over a few different portfolios, which were available for any perspective client to view, so a client can see what type of tattoos have been created by the artists working at Spidermonkey. I was glad to see this, because your artist will have a "personality" that shows in his artistry of work. So we were told to pick out a portfolio that we liked, and they would check and see if that artist was taking new clients. We were paired with Wizard Garrett. My hubby booked a consultation - which required a 60.00 deposit up front. The consultation went well, where my hubby and Wizard discussed an idea for a tattoo, and we showed Wizard a few pictures on our iPad. Wizard agreed to start sketching the tattoo right away. Wizard was ready to see us after just a few weeks, with a sketch for my hubby to approve, and start working on my hubby's shoulder tattoo right away. Wizard was very nice, and easy to work with. He made sure to make my husband feel comfortable, because it would be a long four hours in the chair! The tattoo turned out really beautiful, and we were really pleased with the price, design, artistry, and most of all Wizard and his crew. Very clean place as well, with lots of personality. I found Spidermonkey Tattoo on Yelp, and I am glad I did my research. The place itself has a great "vibe" and there is plenty of interesting art on the walls to look at while you are getting inked. I am not much of a tattoo enthusiast, in fact I was there to get a cover-up of my only tattoo, but I felt very comfortable...everything was super-clean and professional. There are portfolios to look at, no cheesy clip-art, and some of the artists are booked out for a while. I guess that is a testament to how reputable they are. The Wizard Garrett did my cover up, and I am now delighted. I had a tribal heart with black and red fading to pink, and had 4 sessions of laser removal, and it was still there in a big way. I got a lotus flower (after a helpful consultation on another day) and you absolutely cannot tell the old tattoo was ever there. Instead, a pink lotus with purple and blue water...it looks like a beautiful watercolor instead of the second biggest mistake I ever made (lol_). It hurt a lot more when he was going over the stuff that the laser had already hit, but I didn't care. I'm a big wimp anyway, and Garrett totally put up with it. I think I am good with just the tattoo I have now, but if I ever get another, I know where to go! read more

I LOVE this shop. Skrappy is my artist and I honestly could not be more happy with every piece he's done on me! He has done 3 of my 4 tattoos and we're currently working on a full sleeve! His art is absolutely incredible! I get stopped everywhere I go by people asking my about my tattoos, I get endless compliments on them. Skrappy never overcharges me, if anything he shaves off a couple bucks every time I go in. He's great conversation and always makes sure he knows exactly what I want and makes sure everything is perfect before we start tattooing. My last appointment with him I had planned on getting some roses done but a couple days before my appointment I decided I wanted more mandalas in my sleeve as well. I messaged Skrappy on Facebook the night before my appointment and when I went in the next day he already had two mandalas all drawn up and ready to go! I don't think I'll ever go to another tattoo shop. Spidermonkey has a great atmosphere, the front desk ladies are great and always call you about a week before your appointment to make sure you can make it or cancel if you need to. The only complaint is that the wait list was loooong! But when your artist is as good as Skrappy and the rest of the artist here are, it's worth the wait. And once you put your deposit down you can come in and make an appointment whenever you want! I've walked in at least 3 times randomly and asked if I can set up an appointment and Skrappy always gets me an appointment set up within 2-3 weeks. I had a couple of pieces done by Skrappy. Excellent work! Highly recommend! My husband saw his work and has now commissioned a full back piece. His technique is impeccable and heals perfectly in a week to ten days. He is in demand so plan on a 3 month wait per session. i had less success with Nickhole Arcade though--- she did an arm piece for me and it's still blistering after one month so I could not give an excellent rating. After waiting for 6 months, I'm very disappointed and need to find a new shop. Mathew is a nice guy and everything but, I am still in the starting of the tattoo. I didn't want an outline due to the kind of tattoo I wanted. He assured me it was not going to be visible thru the colors(it is), I paid just about 600 for the outline. At $150 an hour, NOT INCLUDING TAX. He told me about 5-10 times that the piece wouldn't look good until it's finished. After a little less than 900 bucks, because he charges you for his smoke breaks @ $150 an hour, I'm left with a sketchy out line (that's not even complete) at best with some weird light pink coloring. I wanted bright VIVID colors. This is a big piece, it's not evenly placed, even after 2 hours of applying and taking off the stencil. I really wanted to put my trust in him. His line work is uneven, and doesn't match up on both sides. I feel as if, he just takes his sweet time because time is money. But the real icing on the cake, what made my mind up and walk away, he lost my artwork. He said he'd just re-draw the piece of the stencil he lost, but that's just unprofessional. He said he left it laying around, maybe one of the other guys picked it up, maybe not, he's not sure. The shop front gals are hit and miss. One is awesome and I'm happy to see. She's super sweet and a happy person. The other is a straight up rude person and horrible to work with. Every other shop I have been to requires a deposit for doing the artwork and then it's applied to the tattoo. This shop requires a deposit on hold to make an appointment. So if you're into your 5th session, you will still need your money on hold until the last ink is laid. read more

Everyone at the shop does incredible, high quality work. They know how to make you feel comfortable and are great at perfecting a vague idea (in case you are as indecisive as me). The shop is nice, clean and sanitary. All of my tattoos from there have healed up quickly & beautifully! I have personally had work done by Lexi and Skrappy. Lexi does great japanese art & I always have a great time hearing about his world-wide travels. Skrappy does beautiful detail work and coloring that really pops. I have a small bird on my wrist from Skrappy that gets almost daily complements on the detail. There are many great shops in the Olympia area, but Spider Monkey is by far the best in my opinion. He has done both of my chest panels and both half sleeves for me....one of the sleeves was a huge cover up too. I will deinitely get back in his chair if I am up in the area...or when he is down here in the bay for tattoo conventions. He has won multiple awards and continues to grow his portfolio. Not sure if...I was given poor customer service, or if this shop is going for an Olympia-esque "Tattitude" vibe with their method of handling potential customers. I should start off by saying that this review includes the condition/cleanliness of the shop as well as the customer service. I am not able to review the actual work of any of the artists, as I have not gotten work done here. However, I felt like a review was in order, because I am left somewhat miffed by the unprofessional manner in which I was treated. Ok, so here's the story: I wanted to get a tattoo for my birthday next month. I typed, "best tattoo shops in Olympia, WA" and Spider Monkey was the first result to come up. I had heard good things about them and they are close to my house. I read the reviews and looked at the artists portfolios on the website. Of all the artists, Nickhole's work/style seemed to be very much in line with what I was hoping to get done. I promptly called the shop. Since it had been awhile since I had any work done, and since all shops are different I wanted to inquire what their process was. Nickhole answered the phone and said that she was unfortunately booked for the entire time that I had available to get any work done. I understood this; they're a great shop and most great shops are always booked. She said the earliest she could get me in was early Sept. I was going to take whatever appointment I could get, but then she told me that on Sunday, August 11th she would be at the Seattle Tattoo Expo and she was free all that day. She said if I didn't mind coming out to Seattle, she could do the tattoo there. She seemed really into the idea and acted like it would be the best option. I told her that was perfect and that going out to Seattle was no problem at all. I gave her my name and info and she told me that I should bring some pictures in the next day and we would get the deposit taken care of, etc. The next day, I had to work in the afternoon, but I got up early so I could bring the pictures in. Now, I work a very heavy schedule and having to arrange things out of the ordinary (especially on a Monday) is very difficult for me. I literally do not have any extra time. But I made time to go out there because I REALLY wanted a tattoo and I REALLY wanted Nickhole to do it at the Expo. So I get to the shop, and the guy a the desk (who was really friendly) told me that Nickhole had just stepped out. I explained that I had spoken to her, etc. and that I wanted to bring my pictures in and pay my deposit. He said he'd call her cell and ask her about it. This is where things get flaky. When he called her, she acted like she had not only never spoken to me, but that she had not spoken to ANYONE about the Expo. It was less than 24 since I had spoken to her! I realize that she probably speaks to a bunch of people every day, but still. Once the guy at the desk got off the phone his attitude kind of changed. He was still nice, but he treated me like someone who is lying to try to sneak into a bar or concert. He refused to take a deposit, which is fine because I didn't want to give them my money only to have them flake out on me again. He basically told me to come in again on August 2nd and maaaaaaybe I'd get the chance to talk to Nickhole about my tattoo. Really? Like I said, I realize reputable shops are always busy. But that is no reason to act like someone is not worth their time. The piece I want to get is a fairly large piece, at least $600-$800 worth of work. And am I alone in thinking that EVERY customer needs to be treated like a paying customer? Especially ones that are VERY interested in getting a lot of work done? The shop itself is very clean, and well kept. The staff seems really nice. But neither of those things matter if you are turning customers away. read more

The BEST tattoo studio I have ever been to!!! Nickhole is THE BEST I would recommend her to anyone!!! She has worked on my arm for about 9 hours so far and it is beautiful. There are no words for how much I love what is done so far. She is a true genius. I got pregnant halfway through the progress of my sleeve so I have to put the whole thing on hold for now. I've been getting tattooed for a few years now and when I very first started getting tattooed I happened upon Nickhole Arcade at the Seattle convention and immediately fell madly in love with her art. Unfortunately she lived states away and I never had the opportunity to get any work done by her. I have made several poor decisions with my tattoos throughout the years and now require an entire arm (at least) to be re-done / covered and I gave Nickhole free reign to come up with something beautiful that could still be feminine. After talking to her about her different ideas SEVERAL times she came to me with a final concept. She kept in constant contact letting me know what she'd come up with, where she wanted to take the piece, and sending me drawings and sketches she'd done well before the tattoo appointment itself. I felt confident in her ability knowing she'd put SO much research in to the piece and in to her art as she'd stayed in contact through multiple seminars she'd gone through to hone her already natural artistic ability. When my appointment came around and I came in to the shop I was promptly greeted and made to feel right at home and at ease by the wonderful woman at the counter (I believe her name is Sunday?) I watched other people come in and she instantly calmed any nerves and has a way of making people so comfortable it was fascinating to watch! The shop as a whole is majestic, it's comfortably appointed, very clean, and has a slew of remarkably talented artists. After going to countless artists around the globe (ok, not countless, but in excess of ten) I can fully give a complete recommendation to Nickhole. Not only did she do the most beautiful work I've ever seen to cover up some horrendous stuff on my arm, she called my the next day to see how I was healing and to make sure I was properly caring for the wonderful art I got. This is illustrated in every inch of decor that doesn't include a bit of the purchased coloring book-esque flash other shops seem to use as wallpaper. Even after 15 or so hours sitting for my and my wife's pieces, I never got bored looking around exploring the "sole" of Spidermonkey Tattoos. The artists are all extremely talented. Each of their styles vary from one another. I chose to hop on Mathews waiting list (it's long but totally worth the wait) for a forearm piece. The talent level on the guy is through the roof. My tattoo is immaculate. The shop is clean and comfortable. Other reviews say there's a sort of "tude" (I've never seen any) at the front desk. If you walk in bullshitting about a tattoo you "might" get, you might receive the same enthusiasm back. They are running a successful business, if you're looking to add some new art to your body they are more than happy to help. I came into the shop with my friend and my service dog to get a quote and we were all asked to leave the building. Not really asked, but demanded by an incredibly rude woman with a condescending tone, who gave us the evil eye until we were gone. She said she didn't want a puppy in her "nice, clean shop". Note that we weren't even in the back of the shop, where a service animal would STILL be allowed, we just wanted to get some quick info and be on our way. Thing is, I was told I'd have a $100 tattoo and it ended up being 165....pretty big difference. After looking around the olympia area for a tattoo parlor, my wife and I finally decided on Spidermonkey, not only because of the good reviews but because we enjoyed the looked the the artists styles. We walked in and instantly were greeted by the Wizard Garrett. He asked what we wanted, which we already had printed out. He liked them and asked sizes and if there was anything we wanted him to add. Everybody was super friendly. When he put it on the transfer paper, he asked us several times if it was the right size and placement. For my wife's, he re-did it 3 times because it looked crooked to him, asking for others opinions before finally getting it right. I liked that he didn't just accept it and put effort into his work. The results came out perfect. We only got lettering, but it was spot on. The only thing I don't like is they pay by the hour instead of by the piece. He worked really quickly so it wasn't that big of a deal though. He was very engaging as far as conversation wnt, so it felt even quicker. The next piece we get will definitely be here. read more

Walked in to get tattooed with my daughter and they were incredibly rude and said to go elsewhere. We asked where else there was and the receptionist wouldnt tell us. I just got my first tattoo at Spidermonkey two days ago from Cane. The entire experience was awesome. To start off, here is a good example of how this shop is better than others in the area. When we showed up, Cane was running a little late and they asked us if we wouldn't mind waiting about 30 minutes. The waiting area (which is a little small) was filled with people so we walked around Olympia for a little while, no big deal. During that time we passed two other tattoo shops that were completely empty. Definitely a good sign that I had picked the right place. Then when we went back Cane was ready and got started right away. Based on my description of what I wanted he managed to produce exactly what I had imagined to the tiniest detail. Everyone who has seen the artwork is extremely impressed. I will definitely be going to Spidermonkey again soon for my next bit of work. read more

The best shop that I've ever gotten ink in. Clean, great atmosphere and friendly staff. My wife and I are repeat customers of Isreal Caine and will continue to be for years to come. A cool guy and a great artist. I get stopped on the street daily by people asking who did my work.
