No outhouses like when I was a kid :) The location is terrific being only 10-15 minutes from Grand Rapids. The lake was very nice and seemed pretty quiet (in June at least). We did not do any fishing, but the neighbors seemed to do pretty well. The owners do everything and take pride in their property. This is definitely a great place to bring the family.

First off the location and the lake itself is beautiful! You truly feel at peace with nature while you are out there. The owners are incredibly nice and friendly people. The cabins are very clean, cozy, and have the basic essentials. However you'll find yourself spending much more time outdoors enjoying the lake. No boat? No problem! When available they do have a few pontoon boats for rent. As far as the lake itself goes. There's a large variety of species in it so fishing is a lot of fun! The quality of the fish are also remarkable up here. Some of my most memorable catches came from my stays here. If you're looking for a place to stay and enjoy the great outdoors I highly recommend Moose Lake Resort!

Maybe the weather had something to do with it (it was HOT). We accidentally set up in the wrong site - it was a BIG site but was very open and kind of felt like sitting in the middle of your driveway having a fire. (Site 21). The bathrooms/showers were not notch and very clean, seems to be a fairly new building. I had expected the well water to be very iron-y considering the location, but the water was great! The lake is beautiful, the beach was wonderful to cool off in.

There's plenty of room for another fridge if they would get rid of the stools underneath the counter. 2. Way too much junk as in stools, chairs, water equipment for a TWO PEOPLE MAX cabin. 3. The lake is not a fishing lake. Literally no fish! The boats they provide are half sunk in the water and are of poor condition. PS: If you are city folks who don't fish or don't do much on the water and want to enjoy the sound of the loons and sitting around using their VERY GOOD WI-FI this fine. Day trips are nice and maybe necessary.

This review is mainly about The Lost 40. An ancient hardwood forest that was somehow missed or…read moreforgotten during the era of the lumber barons in the late 19th century. One theory is the winters were so severe the lumberjacks gave up and deserted the project. This saves a valuable piece of land for us to enjoy whether you are a tree hugger or not. The short trail is signed explaining the types of trees and foliage in the area. I believe in Minnesota less than 2% of forested land remains as hardwoods which covered the state up to the prairie. The area of the Chippewa has camping and not much in amenities as it's not a state park and is recommended for the serious rugged camper.

The campsite was not too far from the water, so we just pulled our kayaks on the beach overnight and we dragged our reclining lawn chairs out to the beach too. The paddling was fantastic -- especially as the water had waves (I love a little tiny bit of adventure to paddling around a lake and this one had some nice waves). There were a lot of people here but we really did feel secluded. I also love camping in national forests because its okay to burn any wood that is down on the ground, so we didn't need to buy firewood, I just collected a bunch of downed limbs and got to work snapping them down to burnable size. I would recommend it!

The Chippewa National forest is huge with excellent kayaking possibilities. My campsite had a small…read morechannel running behind it where I could leave my kayak when not on the water. The campsites are spacious and spread out so you can't hear the next campsite. The ranger comes by occasionally but doesn't bother you. Dead wood is abundant in the trees and you are allowed to forage for down dead branches. Fire pits with grates, picnic tables at your campsite and clean pit toilets are located conveniently throughout the campground. Well water is available near the fish cleaning station and there is a dumpster near the exit. I had a wonderful week here and plan to return in the future. Remember if you pack it in pack it out. Leave your campsite better than you found it. I pretty much had the forest to myself during the week.

There are different sized cabins to accommodate various sizes of families and we were able to rent four cabins all in a row. The resort is very family and kid friendly - plenty of activities for littles with a playground, beach area, pontoons for rent, fishing stuff, etc. The cabins are comfortable but still feel like you're in the woods and the porch area is definitely the best part of the space - coffee on the porch looking at the lake was just awesome! Lake views, fire pits, picnic tables - all make it feel very up-northy. There is a little lodge down by the beach area where too can buy a limited assortment of snacks as well as toiletries that may have been left at home. They have pizzas, arcade games, and free popcorn and coffee too. Wifi was super strong throughout the resort! A few minor things that I didn't love: - The beach area is pretty weedy which contributed to swimmers itch for a few of us but the kids didn't seem to mind. - There isn't really anywhere to walk for exercise, just the dirt roads but no paths or anything. Flies were terrible when I tried to walk anywhere! - Porch furniture wasn't super comfortable and we spent so much time there that it would be great if those chairs could be upgraded! - The tap water tastes and smells irony. We chose to bring bottled water to drink just because of the taste. One of the best parts was taking the pontoon out to what we called 'secret beach' which was a really nice sort of sand bar that was a short ride away from the resort. A true mom and pop place! If you are looking for something that's a bit rustic but still comfortable, this is a good choice. Nothing fancy but that's the way it's supposed to be!
