PROS: Spencers has greatly improved since the last time I was here. It use to be jumbled up but now they spaced out their shelves and you can actually walk around in here. The staff is very nice and prices are reasonable. CONS: Their competitor, which is right next to them, has more inventory and a stronger variety of things making them my go-to for many things OVERALL: It's nice that they developed more space but they have to change the quality of their merchandise read more

I went into the Spencer's store today looking for only two items. I came out with a very disturbing experience. I didn't get anyone's name so I will provide descriptions. I The short heavy set woman with the black hair pulled back, was racially profiling me. Now, if you've been to spencer's you'd now that the body jewelry is in LOCKED glasses that require an associate to open. There was already an associate next to me (A tall blonde woman who was very nice) I didn't even have a chance to utter two words or pick out the jewelry I wanted before the woman with the black hair came up to me with a very shrewd "dO yOU NeEd hElP" I just looked at her and tried to ask if all the gauges for belly rings are the same and then she said "what's the problem" told me they were the same & proceeded to open the glass. This came off as rude because soon after she asked me which one I wanted as if she gave me a chance to even look. Then she stared at me when I was choosing the entire time trying to pressure me to choose and she was also being dismissive with my comments about choosing. I wanted a nose hoop as well and instead of letting me look everywhere she was pointing to specific places so i can choose faster. Not to mention when I picked the belly ring I wanted she very abruptly asked if she could hold it at the front & then did the same with the belly ring as if we were going to run and steal it with not ONE but TWO associates directly in front of me and my sister. I was very uncomfortable as she wasn't even paying attention to anyone else in the store. Just two black women. We then proceeded to the register and my sister (who is over 21) was mentioning buying something from there that you needed ID for. She waited to ring it up because she wanted to see MY ID so bad for some reason. Even after I clearly indicated I only wanted those two items (because that's all I came in for) and told her that was it. Then she hassled my sister for her ID when she bought them. Spencer's is on the 1st floor of the Garden State Plaza, right across McDonalds by the food court. They used to be on the second floor near Macy's, took me awhile to find the new location. They had everything I needed for a bachelorette party, the only other place I can get them is online. The cashier was friendly and helpful. They also have Halloween costumes around Halloween. The receipt has a survey that gives you a discount for your next visit. read more

Unprofessional customer service experience at Garden State Plaza mall in Paramus NJ. Manager is unwelcoming and rude. Both times i went there I had a horrible experience which is a bummer seeing how much i love the store. During my first purchase she spoke to low that i couldnt hear and when i asked her to repeat herself she would roll her eyes and get upset. When i went back to return my items she kept my original receipt and would not return it . I told her i had other items on it and she said she was the manager and that was that. i checked the return policy and it does not mention this at all. CASHIER 3286426 read more

Went to the store in paramus garden state mall and got there at 701 they said they are closed and the doors locked ,it said on the website they are open untill 930 pm so I drove all the way there for nothing. Call Spencer's and they transferred me to one in Jersey city ,why I do not know .so I called again and he transferred me to the paramus mall Spencer's and click call gone . I call back and they say their call lines are now closed. I'm done with Spencer's, I will order the item online from another store read more

I went to this Spencer's location this evening and had a very unpleasant experience. My friend and I starting shopping in the t-shirt section, where we picked out a couple t-shirts. We then looked briefly at the incense section, where my friend showed me a scent I would like. We made our way over to the sock department where an employee, Sarah, asked us if she could hold our items at the register. I replied that I was still deciding between a couple t-shirts, but she insisted she hold the socks at the counter. I gave her the socks and proceeded to pick between t-shirts. I put back two t-shirts and went to the counter to pay for my items. After the cashier looked at my Spencer's account via email, I paid for my $50 worth of merchandise. Heading for the exit, my friend and I were stopped by an abrupt Sarah saying, "I had noticed you guys were looking at a few other items that were not paid for. Do you mind telling me where they are?" I was immediately taken aback by this question and responded with, "All the other items are back on the shelf. Do you want to check my purse?". Sarah said she did not feel comfortable looking through my purse so I then began to clear out all the stuff in it. Once proving Sarah wrong of her accusation, I stated, "I can show you all the other items. Come with me". Sarah was extremely hesitant of my comment but followed me anyway. During this confrontation, my friend had asked what items Sarah was referring to and explained that we had only looked at t-shirts and incenses, but she did not have an answer to his question. When we showed her that all the alleged "unpaid for" items were in their correct placement, I said to Sarah, "I am very upset with these accusations. We just spent $50 in your store so why would we steal something?" Sarah's response was, "Well, it's a busy store. Have a good night." My friend and I were very embarrassed and angered by this situation. We have been re-occurring PAYING customers for years now and are very disappointed in this employee's behavior. This type of behavior does not encourage my return to this Spencer's location. read more
