It's a very simple concept: decide on what to scoop, grab a paper bag and write the corresponding number on your paper bag If you like to mix up your own muesli you will have a blast here, you could create some pretty incredible combinations that would almost certainly guarantee you a super power. One my brief visit I noticed lots of the trendy foods - coconut sugar, cocoa nibs, mesquite powder, hemp and many more to pimp your green smoothie or raw foodie creation. There's plenty of cooking ingredients too -- flours, grains, pulses and pastas. Up the back there's oils including olive, macadamia, cold pressed sesame (I'll be all over this next time) and raw coconut oil. And pay a visit to the corner of chocolate goodness, they have carob and couverture to name a few, and there's plenty of fruit covered options so it's healthy right? I could go on all day, save me the bother and check it out! Oh and grab an energy ball for the road. You've earned it.

Prices can add up pretty quick here but the quality is always excellent and the choice is amazing - nuts, fruit, flours, oats and everything in between. Staff are friendly and helpful to boot as well!

There is a decent selection of meats and dairy as well. They stock informative books and magazines and even cater those with a sweet tooth with a great selection of chocolate. The prices are pretty good too if you start to compare with other organic retailers. Some of their prices are even the same as the mega chain supermarket just down the road. Situated on Smith St and servicing the healthy for the last 20 years, this family owned business is a pleasure to come and shop in. There is a very earthy feel with passive staff and smiles and positivity all around. If you can't make it down, they also have an online shop and even do home delivery.

I thought it would be too expensive, boring, and not flexible enough for my student life. How wrong I was. I discovered Organic Wholefoods on Smith Street a couple of weeks before, and am now prepared to make weekly migrations to stock up on fruit and vegetables and a few other products as well. Organic Wholefoods boasts some beautiful regional produce (juicy oranges, enormous mushrooms and free range eggs) as well as an enormous range of cereals, flour, tea, nuts and more. I was particularly impressed with the wide range of tea and coffee, and had to get my hands on some of the Mount Zero Extra Virgin Olive Oil (under $20!). I was surprised to see that the produce was pretty reasonable (a couple of dollars here and there more than Coles of Safeway) but after buying and trying out the food I could definitely tell the difference. Although I may not have the budget to buy organic for everything, visiting and trying the produce stocked at Organic Wholefoods was an eye-opening and enjoyable decision.

I regular this shop (Only recently discovering it) to buy protein bars and powders not necessarily because of their price (I can get cheap protein powders from my gym) but the range they have here is unbeatable. They stock many ranges to the likes of GNC stores. The staff sometimes seem preoccupied so asking for help in here is a bit hard but other than that the store is a great place to purchase what you need.

Also the monthly free magazines such as Living Now and Nova are a great pick at the front of the store. In all seriousness this establishment is the great place to buy multivitamins and other dietary natural supplements at an excellent price. It is better to go to a specialist natural supplement establishment such as this place without going to a supermarket for your vitamin hit to supplement your diet. The staff are friendly, the place is simple yet filled with positive energy. If you can make an effort to come here on the first Monday of every month where you receive a further 10% discount if the timing is right, then make it worth your while. There was a situation where I needed to buy probiotics immediately after taking antibiotics for a minor cold; I was impressed that the right probiotic product was picked with great results. A great establishment to also buy the common multivitamin as well as fish oil, and not to mention the protein bars for a great snack on the go.

The menu goes up a few days before and orders close on the Monday, for delivery on the Wednesday. Jacq comes and delivers it to your workplace and it looks like she's getting busier and busier, with this week's menu being sold out before I got a chance to order. She's definitely come up with a great idea for lunches with the focus on making healthy packages that she would want to eat. ie stuff from her 'nonno's garden'. When I first saw the lunch, I thought it was small, but my eyes were obviously too big for my stomach. Our lunch was the: TRIPLE DECKER BLISS SALAD QUINOA CRUMBED EGGPLANT - TOP layer #1 MIXED MEGA SALAD - MIDDLE layer #2 MIDDLE EASTERN RICE - BOTTOM layer #3 I couldn't get through it all, not because it wasn't tasty (it definitely was 'freakin good') but because it fills you up pretty quickly. I ended up saving some for my afternoon snack and it tasted just as good. I love the variety - from rice balls to noodle salads, loads of mixed fresh organic veggies and usually a piece of fruit thrown in, it's always delicious and incredibly filling. Often I have to eat half for lunch and the other half a few hours later because they're so choc-ful. At $12 per salad it's an absolute bargain too, with the $20 lunchbox offering the best value. As well as the salad you get a seasonal juice and a healthy ball thing that's loaded with nuts and coconut and deliciousness.

Is it when the…read morecoconut oil hits your shopping basket, or when you consider stocking up on $1.80 bundles of Kale because you know you can make huge amounts of Kale chips? Well, whatever that line is Aunt Maggie's was partly responsible for me crossing over. Yup, I'm now a fully fledged kale-chip, coconut oil, kombucha loving woman. I visit regularly to see which healthy items are on sale and to buy well-priced vegetables between market shops. The store is huge and there is aisle after aisle of beautifully packaged "health" food that will make you feel virtuous as you throw them in to the wicker shopping basket provided at the front counter. My only gripe with this store is that not all items have prices on the shelves, making it very hard when you're trying to weigh up the value between three different kinds of activated almonds. It's easy to spend a lot of money here if you don't pay attention and compare brands but with some careful consideration you can actually get out of here having spent not much more than the local supermarket.

They even have a juice/soup bar for the lucky workers on Gertrude St. who can visit for lunch. (When will they stay open at night for the rest of us, hmmm?) Of course, all of this comes at a premium -- would you expect anything less from an organic shop, and one in Fitzroy, no less?
