It's hard to describe the decor, but I'll try. There's a big, fake wooden tree in the middle of the restaurant. All around the tree are cozy, intimate booth pods that look like little huts. There's also seating that looks like a honeycomb, with more intimate booths, and an upstairs, if you wanted to sit a little higher. Tables are in the middle of the room, and there is bar seating, as well. There's a robot server that glides around the room, although, I never did interact with it. Booth seating was procured, because I love to feel nestled in a cozy space. The menu is large, as there was not one menu but four different menus: the regular menu, the specials, the milk tea / boba menu, the sake / alcohol menu. It can be a little overwhelming if you've never been here, or if you've never had ramen, because there are so many options. Luckily, the menu has lots of photos and descriptions. Or! Visit with someone who has had ramen and has opinions about ramen. Or! Ask the servers. They are very friendly and helpful. I got the Combo A1, which is Tokyo tonkotsu shoyu ramen, plus a pork bao, and a matcha and red bean pudding for dessert. The ramen was good but not my favorite, and I think I'll order a spicy ramen next time. The bao was amazing -- so fatty and meaty, and it was probably the largest bao bun that I've ever seen, let alone ate! I also got to try the tempura shrimp, and I think that's what I'll be getting next time! This might have been the best tempura shrimp I've ever eaten. They got your cold sake, hot sake, jelly sake, cloudy sake and even sparkling sake. What's a girl to do? Order the sake! My dad did not know what to order and asked what tea is refreshing and is one that the barista would recommend. The barista said that the green tea is really popular, but did not ask whether he wanted it hot or iced or give a recommendation for that. The tea came out hot on a hot day where we planning to walk the Monon and check out other local businesses. To be fair, I did ask him if he wanted me to ask for the drink to be remade or to get him a new one as I had overheard his order and also assumed it would be coming out iced. He said it was fine (but then complained on our walk). This was a bit disappointing. There have been times I have walked out after a few minutes of no acknowledgement from baristas here. It is not a cafe that I would want to sit in and work in as a lot of the space does not look workable. The last time I did come in with papers I planned to read in between appointments, I did not want to put my bag on the floor or my papers on a table because both were dirty. The book page wall has seen better days and would benefit from a revamp. I love the outdoor area though and the can tops are really cool. There is a lot of potential here, but when staff appears like they do not want to be there it makes customers not want to be there either. I would also urge the owners to be more receptive to criticism.
