I had a hole in my macular and Dr. Ferreira fixed it and the torn retina. I wish I would have gone here first. Even the nurses at the surgery center were amazed at his skill. My wife saw a rental specialist prior to hospital and was told her optic nerve was swollen and was put steroids and eye drops. A day later she was completely blind in the same eye. My wife saw a neurologist that found black from her artery was blocking her blood flow to her eye. Dr Brown came in very roughly and proceeded to give my wife her about 5 eye test and told us her eye nerve was blind from not what the neurologist was telling us and after that ask if my wife knew about a spot on her lung that was getting larger. We thought she was going out of her speciality and re upset my wife. She needs some better bedside manner and check with doctors and nurses before any exams. I truly appreciate her military service and schooling. Just take time for compassion, treat people as people and not a number orba paycheck.

Tried out Riverside Family Eye Care as it's close to home in the Verandah Publix plaza. Plenty of…read moreeasy parking out front. Office is very clean. Setting up the appointment was easy and their communication leading up to the appointment was great. Appreciated the text reminders. Rose, who took me back and did the initial screenings, was patient, friendly and really set the stage for a great appointment. Christina, the gal who helped picked frames/lenses after the appointment, was also fantastic - friendly, helpful, patient, non judgmental. They also have a pretty broad selection of glasses. However, the Dr. Ben Konyenbelt left something to be desired. This guy was a bit frantic, creating a chaotic feel in the room. His hand was shaking so perhaps he was worked up about something else and I just happened to encounter him at the wrong time. However, the feeling I got from him is that of a Nervous Nellie. He then proceeded to tell me that I wasn't welcome back because I wouldn't agree to having them dilate my eyes. I had alerted the office in advance that I didn't want dilation & they said it was no problem as long as I signed a waiver, which I did. I appreciated their ability to work with my preference & was conscientious to clear it with them first. Apparently the optometrist doesn't agree with their policy and told me that coming to an annual appointment for the purpose of getting my eyes checked & getting glasses through insurance is not a reason to come to the eye dr. Hmmm....seems odd! Would think he'd encourage people to come back every year to better monitor if patients are reporting any problems. I get that he wanted me to come to be more medically evaluated "just in case", even though I have no issues or history of issues. btw - if I were having any issues, I would have gladly agreed to and supported additional evaluation. Truly, he seemed annoyed that as an optometrist, he was simply checking vision and writing a prescription rather than doing more dr worthy stuff, but hey - that's also part of the job. Would I recommend Riverside Family Eye Care - I would for the support staff, convenience and selection. However, I would definitely pick a different optometrist! Picked up my glasses. Office was closed so I was going to come back but their lab mgr, david, saw me & unlocked the door, offering to get my glasses for me. Thats some pretty great service & he was obviously very knowledgeable. 5 stars for Rose, Christina & the David. 1 star for Dr. Ben Konyenbelt.
