Due to circumstances beyond my control, all my visits to pet shops are normally only to look at the…read morepuppies, fish and kittens, so my recent visit to Animates was slightly different. Needing to buy dog food for a spaniel that I'm pup sitting, I stopped over at Animates in Westgate, to get the food and stuff I would need for his visit. Golly, gosh, darn... Expensive is not the word; the word is more likely to be four letters long and starting with a loud capital F. Okay, so I'm not used to buying dog food and related products, and I'm only just recovering from the shock of buying baby food, so it was a surprise how expensive dog food had become. So the cost of items is possibly not directly related to the store. I found the service good, and dealt with Sammy, she was informative, and gave me good advice. Overall this is a good store, and their live animal range is quite good plus the food range is massive. I think this visit cured me from getting a puppy just yet, but did find the kittens to be absolutely adorable.

Couldn't believe my luck. I had previously this morning walked away from another nearby vet clinic…read morehaving made an 8.20am appointment online stating it was for a vaccine booster for my kitten, showing up at 7.50am, waiting for the clinic to open (it did at 8.10am despite in the booking system displaying appointments from 8am) to be informed the vet would be late...a 40 min wait and the nurse who was at the clinic wasn't able to conduct the procedure so I would have to wait. Stuff that. I don't drive (part blind), had caught the bus. On the return bus ride home, drove past this place so got off the bus, walked in without an appointment, explained what happened and these guys looked after me from the get-go. Vaccinated my kitten, asked all the right questions re: eating and toilet habits, gave great care advice and were highly professional. Unbelieveable. Guaranteed return customer here. Won't name-drop the other vet but will leave feedback on this forum for them.

We stopped in peak hour traffic to pick up a pigeon with a broken wing (no one else even raised an…read moreeyelid). Just a normal everyday pigeon we were told no one would care when we started making inquiries. When we contacted Green Bay Bird Rescue they cared when it mattered and no one else did. We took the pigeon in the next day and they were very helpful and empathic, for which we were much appreciative. If you care enough about birds when they are injured then these are the people to talk with, they are fantastic and couldn't recommend them enough. Everyone should show caring to other creatures we share this planet with and the people at Green Bay Bird Rescue provide a great example of this. Five stars.

Friday nights at Rainbow Youth are the best time - school is over for the week and people will pile in to have a good time and be themselves. I interviewed the kids of Rainbow Youth about the issues that were facing them once - I ended up coming away feeling good about how LGBT children are faring. While their stories weren't all sunshine and rainbows, it was easy to see that having spaces like Rainbow Youth around makes life all that more bearable, while helping to create stronger, happier queer kids.
