Cochem is a quaint town in the wine country of the Moselle River. About 90% of all the wines grown here are Riesling Each year a festival is held and the areas growers bring their wines to market in cochem. It is a town of half-timber houses and a romantic castle (Reichsburg Castle) which overlooks the town from atop a mountain peak. The castle was rebuilt in 1870's after a major fire. Tours are available.
Cochem was an Imperial state and of major importance both in Roman & Medieval times. The medieval city center can be accessed via the Enderttor (city entrance gate) dated 1322. In this area you will also find the Monument Geschiedenis, Once through the gate you will find the 1681 Rathaus in the marktplatz. This is the heart of the aldtstadt and like many old towns, it to has a fountain (Martin's Fountain). Other sites worth exploring are St. Kastors (8th-9th) century, St. Martin's church, Skagerrak Brucke and the historic Senfmuhle (mustard factory).
The Gebruder Kold family offer cruises on the Moselle River. The Cochemer Sesselbahn is a chairlift originating in the Endert Valley and will take you to the Pinnerkreuz, a 255 meter lookout point. read more
