Yayoi Kusama's Infinity Mirrored Room - May 2016 - my obligatory, albeit blurry, pic :)

This installation of Yayoi Kusama's Infinity Mirror Room - "The Souls of Millions of Light Years…read moreAway" is located at The Broad in Los Angeles. Tickets are FREE. To visit, you will need to reserve tickets to The Broad's general admission AND the Infinity Mirrored Room exhibit. I feel like if you're already going to The Broad you should also visit the Infinity Mirrored Room. I might be biased since I enjoy taking photos. The tricky thing is that the reservations for the Infinity Mirrored Room are released on the last Wednesdays of each month at 10am for the following month OR you have to keep an eye out for openings the day prior. They are currently not taking same day reservations. The reservations are time specific, but there will still be a 15-20 minute line. You can get in line 10-15 minute prior to your window slot and staff will probably not give you too hard of a time. You are expected to go in together with your group, unless you make reservations separately. If you want to go in alone for that selfie, you should make your own reservation. The maximum group size to enter together is 4 people. Any children under 13 must enter with an adult. Obviously, my boyfriend was dragged to go with me. Before our visit, I was researching what poses to do since the time is so limited. And then when we were in line I gave him a quick run down of the plan. It worked out nicely and we were able to take a few photos, a quick video and still had a few seconds to actually enjoy the art installation beyond the selfie taking purposes. This experience was very special for me. I think the careful planning and taking feedback from others allowed me to enjoy my visit. One minute can go by quick if you wait to get inside the room to coordinate your poses. And coming with someone I care about makes it even more memorable.

No complaints about the actual experience itself, it's beautiful and definitely Instagram-worthy. BUT. That wait vs. payoff ratio? Wild. You're standing there forever, building up the moment, just to get ushered in and out in what feels like 60 seconds flat. By the time you're adjusting your camera and telling your family where to stand, it's already "okay time's up." Like... we just got here?? Honestly, I'd rather they charge more and give people a few extra minutes. Let us actually take it in, enjoy it, and get decent photos without feeling rushed like we're on some kind of aesthetic speed run. That said, it is a must-see at least once. Just go in knowing it's more of a quick visual experience than something you can really sit with.

Kids love it and it is fun for the whole family. Parking is for a fee. It is just fun. All of the eateries are great, are favorite being La Luz Dia. It is not the oldest restaurant there, but it is great. The shops are fun and have cool gifts from Mexico. This is an historic district and should remind you of when all of California was part of Mexico. It is safe and you will have a great time. Have fun. Any place you choose to eat will be good. One had a great Taco Tuesday special. The people working in this area are friendly. They are not pushy trying to sell goods. I enjoyed my walk through here but it is a little small. I would have liked to see even more stores. I did hear it is a great place to be on the weekends with lots of singing and dancing. I would recommend going on one of those days for an elevated experience.

You can always count on Ktown being open during demon hours if you are adventuring near LA and need…read morelate night food or if you're trying to find some grub after a concert. Now the main issue with Ktown is parking. You're either immensely lucky or you're circling or parking farther away if you're trying to find free parking, if not, get ready to pay and it's usually much pricier than Little Tokyo. Also, I'm feeling like the driving is more reckless here. I got merged into by a parked Tesla. LIKE WTH MAN YOU HAVE SENSORS AND CAMERAS EVERYWHERE. I digress either way. It's also a more...urine soaked part of LA depending how close you are to public transit. If you get parking garage parking, you're good, if not, you gotta brave walking the streets. I can't say other than some restaurants and cafes (and the fact that it's opened super late) there's any reason for me to willingly go to Ktown since there's always a chance to spawn a world event where I get hit by a car either walking or my car itself, but I do have some favs here like Anju House (formerly Yellow House - not the Grudge one), BTS' favorite Gopchang restaurant, Somemore (actually has a decently sized lot), and Goltong Chicken (man is a KING, an absolute must). The funniest thing that's happened was having to park 40 minutes away in a neighborhood one way and making that trek back and forth. At least it was with a friend and we were chatting and exploring but good god.

Besides that it's also known for 24/7 economy and spas and if that's your jam then you need to come get it man! For us foodies it's a paradise of the late night coffee shops, restaurants and Oh Yeah them sweet dessert shops! Yes I know parking can be an issue but that's an easy fix if you come early and make a day trip out of it. And yeah some people make that complaint of homeless and the streets are dirty but you know what, it's OG and that's what's up because it keeps on thriving. And I say this. I drive on her streets cause she's my companion, I walk her streets cause she knows who I am. It's the city I use to live in, the City of Angels, we were once lonely and together now we never cry. No judgment here like some other cities in deep orange and no worrying about labels and what you look like. That's how it should be, a place where you can be you and not looked down upon. Mix that up with amazing food and a fire nightlife and you have yourself this very special place. I'm not writing this because I grew up here I'm just stating the facts! And that's my take on it, Peace out my peeps...

Yelp Event Sneak Preview:…read more The theme at this year's cARTeL art installation party was for artists to create their own planet....encouraging you to ponder the moving forward in science and knowledge while contemplating your infinite vision in life. What I like about cARTel is that they look for a variety of different artists every year. They don't just have a group of friends promoting each other. They accept applications, interview candidates and showcase people's talents who are passionate about their art. This preview allowed us to hear the artists' perspective as they were still putting their installations together. From what we saw they have a lot of work to do tonight, but it got me excited about how it'll look upon completion tomorrow night. I wished I had known about this sooner. There are tickets still available. $11 general admission where you're given an entry time block (you can stay as long as you like once in) and $20 VIP which gets you in at any time and front of the line pass to the bar. The bar will be stocked by Stacked wine. The space is large! Featured on the 11th floor. Many segregated areas. There will be a photo diorama type area that reminded me of a Jurassic Park vehicle surrounded by avatar. Cool hanging light installations. You'll walk on Frank's paintings, but don't worry he wants you to. They are all for sale $5-100. Listen and you'll hear moon chimes. There is a space reserved in the back where Dj's will be spinning all night long: Robin People, GOJIRA, FunkTheFresh, Korova, Neo Fresco with Marvel the Gr8, Lo Fi Sugar, Professor Possessor. If you don't have anything to do why not have a good time supporting the arts! Might be better in concept than execution, but so curious to see how it turned out. Most of the installations were nowhere near to completed the night before!! Not tempted enough to return for the actual party. Parking: Private lot attached $5 after 4pm. Pay at the machine before you get in your car to leave.

So trust me and do yourselves a favor and come to this. From what we are able to see, its already shaping out to be amazing. This event is done by the same people that do 'brokechella'.
