Almost all others stopped several weeks ago when Yelp announced their plans to leave Europe (and all other countries except US and Canada). So, this is mostly just a note to myself for 2018. 2) Reason number two is that rascóns are sold only once a year before the Reyes Magos holiday. Nobody knows what LIDL and their competitors will sell next year. Anyway, this year LIDL brought an awesome product to the market (I tried others too). It tastes better than others. It looks better (important if you post stuff online). It is also 30% cheaper :))) For those who never bought a rascón - be careful, they put a figurine of one of the kings inside every pie. Don't break your teeth! Whoever finds a figurine inside their piece is supposed to get very lucky in the new year. I will buy rascón here in 2018!

Lots of new customers came and I'm sure many will keep shopping here. Awesome meat, bakery and wine sections. Most products looks unsual and different, fan to explore. Jamón is 100% better than in Mercadona and is a bit cheaper. Mercadona is reopened now but I will visit Manper again. Regularly. Recommended.

We went to one of these supermarkets in Xabia, it was Sunday and we didn't pay attention to the…read moreclosing times. We entered around 2:15 pm and at 2:30 pm they were closing. At 2:31 pm an employee approached us and rudely said: "it's closed, you have to pay, now!" Directing us to the cash registers. They had already closed the shutters and we couldn't leave (kidnapping?). Finally a security guard arrived and opened the door halfway without giving us time to return the trolley inside and therefore also losing the euro used to unlock it. What a shame. At 2:39 pm the shop was empty and closed. They shouldn't have let us in or warned us that they were about to close. Obviously we will never set foot in a Masymas supermarket again.

Clean hall, wide choice of food and drinks, reasonable prices (especially considering their seafront location). You need a Masymas if you are renting an apartment instead of staying in a hotel, which is very common. The store was quite busy when I visited - people were loading up on wine and jamón after the day spent on the beach. I guess they deliver to homes, there was a delivery van parked outside. You can sign up for their loyalty program in-store and get some discounts. These two food retailers are head-to-head competitors. They operate thousands of stores and you can often find both of them within walking distance from any home in this area. Stores are of similar size and many items they carry are similar too. However there are many differences, some of them in today's review of Lidl. Here we go, the positives: - In store bakery. Lidl's bakery is awesome, just look at the pictures. Mercadona has bakery too, but it is much simpler. Store's German origin shows :) Like! - Organic products: coffee, yogurts, beer, wine, olive oil. Not much but Mercadona doesn't sell organic products at all. +1! - Beer. Lidl offers a wider assortment. Wheat, dark, organic, Irish, Japanese, alcohol-free, strong, generic, brands you name it! German origin shows again. Cool! - Countries' themed weeks (Italy, Japan, France, US) - typical food from around the world offered temporarily. Great addition to their permanent range, fun to try something new. Bon appétit! - Non-food items. There's an area where they sell non-food (assortment changes depending on season): beach, sports, tools, kitchen, toys, clothing, home decoration items. They bring fair quality products that work. Kudos! - Nuts without salt. A little detail that I like. Here is the only place where I found pistachios without salt added (I'm a fan of nuts / hater of salt). Great! On the downside: - They have a limited choice of fresh meat, poultry and seafood comparing to Mercadona - Smaller beauty/hygiene section (Mercadona sells make-up and hair dye for example) Personal note - a food that I absolutely can't eat: "morcilla Asturiana" - traditional smoked blood sausage from Asturia, a region in the North of Spain (Sorry, Asturians). Not Lidl's fault, I'm sure there are fans of this product. I love other types of morcillas by the way! All in all Lidl is a good grocer, I will be coming back. P.S. Although the shops are not big, "Lidl" doesn't mean "little". It's a surname of one of the former partners of the founder. The founder's surname was Schwarz, they didn't want to name the shop "The Black Market" :) Good naming decision some 80 years ago :)

Despite being much smaller than their Spanish, German and French competitors HiperBer somehow offers similar prices for similar products. They are probably not big enough to have store brands of their own, so they distribute brands like alteza.es in the lower price range. Not sure what Alteza really is (they didn't bother to add an "about" section to thier website) but I believe they are "the store brand for those who can't afford a store brand of thier own". Overall good store, good service, unusual assortment, worth a visit. Awesome for everyone living within walking distance to the store. Great addition to the retail landscape of Torrevieja! P.S. Also they sell beer brewed by a brewer who couldn't afford to hire a €10/hour proofreader to check their packaging copy!!! Isn't that awesome? I'm in! :)))

Unlucky me :) Got a loyalty card a few months ago but haven't used it until today (kept in car always). The products and prices are similar to what you find in other food shops but there are some differences and it was a real fun to explore those differences tonight. If you are a frequent visitor to Mercadona or Lidl like me, visit Consum once in a while even if it takes a bit of extra driving. I felt like I went abroad today - different brands, store brands, packaging design, even fruits and vegs seem to be different... Polite staff will greet you and ask you if you need assistance (unusual in Spain). This shop will make you want to move to Quesada, seriosely. Will be back 100%.
