A majestic castle that meets modern day Irish charm…read more
Whilst on our honeymoon during the first week of 2017, my wife and I had the pleasure of staying at the famous, five star Dromoland Castle Resort and Golf Club. Admittedly neither of us has ever played a round of the sport, however we were whisked away by all the pageantry and wonder this amazing place had to offer.
Quite literally, from the moment I set the rental car in park and almost took my foot off the brake, we were met by "Tom", whom really deserves a full review of his own. I do not think I can remember such exceptional customer service in any type of setting, like Tim delivered.
Tom is an Englishman who has been with the castle for over eighteen years at the time of this review, and all alone, he is there for every single guest, hand and foot. From luggage, to taking one to the proper front desk and and eventually castle room, all the way up to driving the site shuttle car to take folks to and from the resort spa and recreational area. There is so much more, however I will let it be at that.
Since we were at Dromoland on our honeymoon, we were upgraded to a deluxe suite with a room that only one could appreciate once stepping foot it inside. Hopefully still, my photos offer a glimpse. Needless to say, the bed, sitting areas and shower restroom areas were spot on with amenities you could only dream of in one single "room."
The night we arrived we came in at after nightfall and so were unable to see much of the grand estate in full until the next day; however, in between time of morning and sleep, we did manage to relax in the red area and step into the heated spa jacuzzi. This was exhilarating to say the least. From there, we enjoyed a drink or two each and sang songs with other guests in the library pub area. Each area, by the way, has a charm and feel from the hundreds of year old times that the castle encapsulates. This is a thing of beauty on its own.
The very next morning, breakfast was of course included and served. A continental and combination menu selection of course, and on this day, smoked salmon was the choice for us both. Who knew fresh salmon could be prepared in such a beautiful way, with either eggs, as my wife opted for, or by itself, as I enjoyed. The spread in the communal buffet station area was nothing short of perfect as well, and as aforementioned, included with the entree selection. Wow, what a treat of all types of freshly squeezed juices, to cereals and an oatmeal mixture that was heavenly.
Beyond all this wonderment, we Unfortunately did not stay long enough to take part of in either the falconry they offer, nor the other interesting and different amenities; however we did manage the o step foot in the jacuzzi once again, and also take a horse and trap ride. The horse and trip ride of course must have a special mention as well, as our guide and driver, "Tanya," was simply a charm. Her knowledge of the grounds and ancient times was perfect and fun and we were able to take it all in with photos to save for a lifetime.
Finally we had to say goodbye, and whilst doing so was not easy, we now know of the gem in southwest Ireland that, if and when possible, should be visited by all walks of life and enjoyed to its fullest extent. Cheers.
