Compassionate, Professional, and Affordable Care - Even in the Hardest Moments…read moreDuring our recent trip to Playa del Carmen, we had to seek urgent veterinary care for our senior cat, and I'm beyond grateful we found Sanimal Clínica Veterinaria.
They were able to get us in quickly, and within a short time had completed X-rays and a thorough exam, ultimately diagnosing her with an oral tumor. It was devastating news, but the way the staff handled it--with gentleness, clarity, and compassion--made all the difference. For context: the cost of the X-ray was only about 10% of what we paid in the U.S. for a similar procedure for our dog before the trip. And yet, the quality of care was outstanding. The pain medication and appetite stimulant was just a few more US dollars.
When the time came to say goodbye--once she could no longer eat--we returned to Sanimal for euthanasia. What we experienced was nothing short of beautiful. The lights were dim, soft music was playing, there was incense and candles lit, and we were given all the time we needed to say goodbye. It felt sacred, not clinical. We were never rushed, only supported.
They handled everything with such grace, including the cremation and return of her ashes, which were lovingly delivered to us within a couple of days. Like most cats, from noticing something may be wrong to her last day was only 6 weeks. The tumor was noticable and she would not pass inspection at the border, as you can imagine.
For fellow travelers, expats, or long-term visitors:
Appointments are easy to schedule and response times are quick
Staff speaks English and explains everything clearly
Costs are extremely reasonable, for xray and medication, especially compared to U.S. vets
The facility is modern, clean, and welcoming
They treat your pets--and you--with genuine care and empathy
If you need documentation to have your pets return (or go) to another country, they also provide the service for health certificates appropriate for the country
Sanimal gave us peace in one of the hardest moments of pet ownership. I cannot recommend them enough for both medical care and end-of-life services. They were there for us when we needed them most--and we'll never forget it.
