TL; DR: Delicious home cooked food. Charming owner / chef. Mom finally smiled when we said we didn't need any change.
==================
The name translates to Onion-Garlic and it's a restaurant run out of a house that was right on the beach between our hotel (Club Hotel Zemda) and the main waterfront area of Gümüşlük (the map is way off)
Soğan Sarmısak is run by a mother and daughter who cook their family recipes. There's beach and porch dining (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/so%C4%9Fan-sarm%C4%B1sak-mu%C4%9Fla?select=oHYNcgBC6OT0BcuLYADpSA#oHYNcgBC6OT0BcuLYADpSA), but there was a windy cold spell when we were there so we were in the indoor/upstairs "dining room" which had some quirky décor (yes, those are newspapers plugging a gap in the wall http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/so%C4%9Fan-sarm%C4%B1sak-mu%C4%9Fla?select=oHYNcgBC6OT0BcuLYADpSA#Xb75HuSd4wWHXColjrPmKA sheets partition off the private living areas and belongings http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/so%C4%9Fan-sarm%C4%B1sak-mu%C4%9Fla?select=oHYNcgBC6OT0BcuLYADpSA#8VfVMshTk8dPCeAY1XqbWQ)
The menu is charmingly handwritten on the outside wall (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/so%C4%9Fan-sarm%C4%B1sak-mu%C4%9Fla?select=oHYNcgBC6OT0BcuLYADpSA#ZE6iAsb08cKvOOgVKIQgIw) and what is given to you at the table (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/so%C4%9Fan-sarm%C4%B1sak-mu%C4%9Fla?select=oHYNcgBC6OT0BcuLYADpSA#CPyMbRTyciD6KldAhOpvbw)
You get some olives and bread as you contemplate your order (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/so%C4%9Fan-sarm%C4%B1sak-mu%C4%9Fla?select=oHYNcgBC6OT0BcuLYADpSA#36ojiIN7mpf11UfL42Hb3Q)
Next they bring out a tray of all the current appetizer options to choose from(http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/so%C4%9Fan-sarm%C4%B1sak-mu%C4%9Fla?select=oHYNcgBC6OT0BcuLYADpSA#ggFmwEmh55IMchq0JUjw8A). I think they were disappointed we only chose two. The Imam Bayildi, a stuffed eggplant dish (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/so%C4%9Fan-sarm%C4%B1sak-mu%C4%9Fla?select=oHYNcgBC6OT0BcuLYADpSA#NT4ivUPO8HLBS6jXv1mDIw) and a beet and yogurt spread (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/so%C4%9Fan-sarm%C4%B1sak-mu%C4%9Fla?select=oHYNcgBC6OT0BcuLYADpSA#H-c67gPTuq381W5PNJ9_Bw). Both were delicious.
They had just two entrees that evening and we got one of each.
Firinda Cipura (whole baked sea bream with garlic and wild sage http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/so%C4%9Fan-sarm%C4%B1sak-mu%C4%9Fla?select=oHYNcgBC6OT0BcuLYADpSA#9XEpns4QrcArYYrxziBaLQ) which the chef was kind enough to de-bone for us. This was moist and delicious with complementing the fish nicely.
Kuzu Kapama (lamb shoulder stew cooked with dill http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/so%C4%9Fan-sarm%C4%B1sak-mu%C4%9Fla?select=oHYNcgBC6OT0BcuLYADpSA#zdOkzXvfXqHzqiq2tL5DAg) was not a large serving, but again tender and flavorful. That's some eggplant in the center of the bowl with the greens stuck into it. I wrote down what the greens were, but lost my notes! read more
