Aiken, I'd like to tell you about a little known gem. For some time, I have suffered from knotted…read moremuscles in my neck, shoulders and back. Then sciatic pain started. I was facing a 20 hr each way rode trip. After searching for a massage therapist, I happened upon Lara Bridges at Aiken Center for Neuromuscular Therapy. My experience with massage was the relaxing kind and a couple of deep tissue ones. She is different. She asked questions and went to work. As the only neuromuscular massage therapist AND practitioner in the area her massage is medically based. She only went to where the pain was or the area that was causing the pain and found issues I didn't know I had. On the first visit, she worked her magic on me and that 20 hr drive and 12 day vacation was pain free. I've now been going to her since the middle of June. She has moved 2 muscles that were out of place, impinging a nerve and causing pain. This is a way to deal with pain without drugs. I can't recommend her enough.

This hospital is okay. I can review it from two different perspectives, as a former employee and…read morealso as a patient. I worked at Aiken Regional for about a month in EVS. The EVS crew was great and they made sure I was okay my whole shift. However, when it came to needing the nurses for any reason, a lot of them were super rude to me or they would just stare at me like I was stupid and then completely ignore what I asked them to do for me. I don't know if the thought of me made them look down on me for being a housekeeper instead of a nurse like them, but for me to be ignored when I specifically needed them to come remove stuff for me really used to get under my skin. That being said, EVS is a great department to work for. The staff there is great and time goes by fast but it just wasn't for me. I wasn't cut out for the position personally, but it is a department I would recommend for anyone to try. As a patient here, it's also just okay. I came in because I was having abdominal pain so bad it had me in tears and I wanted to get it checked out just in case something was wrong. I went through the ED and the lady who worked the desk right when you walk into ED was the RUDEST person I had ever met in my whole life. I wish I would have caught her name. Another thing about ED before you're actually taken to your room, there's two nurses that call you to behind the desk to get your blood pressure, weight, reason for visit etc. but it's not very private and everyone in the ED can hear how much you weigh and basically learn everything about you which I personally just feel like that's personal information and gathering stuff like that should be in a more secluded area. Maybe that's just me being self conscious about my weight, but either way I don't think anybody's weight should be broadcasted to whoever else is visiting the ED. Moving on, the nurses who took care of me at the ED were mostly good. I had to get my blood drawn so they could run some tests on me, and it took about four hours to get what I thought were my results. One of the nurses who assisted in drawing my blood the first time came in and told me she needed to draw more because my blood had clotted so they couldn't test it. My arm was still super sore from the first time I was poked so she used my other arm and that one didn't even hurt at all. My results then came back about 15-20min later. Luckily, I was okay but just the four hour waiting in between was crazy to me, but they were all nice to me and I might of annoyed them a little by talking to much, so I apologize if I did! Haha... Upon being discharged, I left the parking lot only to realize I forgot my wallet in my room and had to go back in to get it. The lady at the front looked super annoyed that she had to go grab it for me. Like my bad, I'll just leave it next time so someone can still all my information. :D

I only give one star and that is for the nurses. I got here around 8 am yesterday and it is 1:37…read morepm today. First off, I have not been admitted to a room. I am in an emergency room apparently by the supply closet. My entire time here the doors slam to that supply closet constantly. There was a woman last night screaming at the top of her lungs threatening people with their lives. Yesterday I had to ask for food and finally got a hot meal after 7pm. To be fair my nurse did find me a sandwich at lunchtime AFTER I asked for food and gave me crackers peanut butter and something to drink. I was given a hot breakfast five minutes after 7 this morning without asking. Mind you I am type 2 diabetic. It is now 1:42 pm and still don't have food. Pushed call button and was brought a drink and some more crackers and was told food tray on the way. My phone won't call out so I cannot call anyone. Text works one minute and not the next. Unplugged myself from monitors and asked for doctor or director to see what test results are because this level of zero care can be done at home. I did that around 11. Still have not seen a doctor. On top of that this place has a rank smell to it and it is filthy nasty. Trash can is full and so is laundry bag. I got up still attached to IV and wet paper towels to clean top tray just in case I get lucky and they get some food to me. On top of that there's another woman that has been screaming at the top of her lungs for the last hour or more. If I need surgery for what is ailing me I don't think I could let anyone in this place touch me. To be fair again I am in the emergency room so I have no clue what the level of care is in a real room. I will drive to Atlanta before I would EVER come back here. As I said I don't blame the nurses because they seem to be stretched past their limit. YOU HAVE BEEN FORWARNED. BTW it is five minutes till 2 and still don't have tray of food. I been crying uncontrollably for some time now.

I came to South Carolina from California with preexisting conditions therefore it was imperative I…read morefound all new reliable medical care. I have always been a cash paying patient without insurance for the last 3 years. I was referred to the Clyburn Center because it helps low income families out, individuals without insurance, and offers Dental, Primary Care, Ob/Gyn, Pediatrics, a pharmacy to pick up your prescribed meds, and I believe the newest addition in Podiatry services are now available. Regardless, its convenient and awesome to have everything in one place, almost like Kaiser Permanete in California; they offer a wide variety as well but it is super expensive medical insurance to have. Any way, the services I receive at the Clyburn Center are Primary Care - Dr. Jones, Dental - Dr. Richard's, Ob/Gyn - At their Clearwater location because I'm in that area sometimes - Dr. Daniel's and the Aiken location, I haven't seen the new female Doctor's they've recently included in Gyn. But I have received the utmost proper and thorough care at each care of service and I've been dealing with pre-existing conditions since I was 17, so this isn't my first medical rodeo. They're all doing a great job! I don't have health insurance, and I'm brand new to Aiken County (Aiken itself is a 30 minute drive for me though) in a career transition basically starting at the bottom again as a single parent in college and South Carolina has a Sliding Fee Scale for low income and no insurance patients, which is honestly one of the best options you can offer for public health and taking care of your people, affordably. California is nowhere near taking care of their people like South Carolina does! Any way, ALL the Clyburn Center Doctors and staff are absolutely amazing and very consistent. I love seeing the same employees because familiar faces in the medical industry provides the patients "trust in care" on all levels. Its unfortunate the Ob/Gyn center keeps getting new doctors, and I'll stick with Lloyd and if he is in Clearwater/Beech Island then I will see him there. But the Ob/Gyn in Aiken has done very well with everything as far as diagnosis and treatment. I highly recommend the Clyburn Center and all its services to anyone!!!! Just because a city provides medical accommodations for low income families or no insurance individuals does not discount the care or services available so I wish people would stop looking at places like this in a crooked way. Everyone needs access to the same medical care no matter what! Don't discount the Clyburn Center. They place these facilities in locations to better help the people they're serving. Regardless of location you're either going to take the services and help they're offering or not! I highly recommend this place to anyone who needs affordable medical attention.
