Southside Cemetery is located next to Tallahassee International Airport and the road leading to it can get a bit crazy. Julian Edwin "Cannonball" Adderly is buried here. Adderly passed away back in 1975 and is best remembered as a jazz saxophone player. He was most famous during the 1950's and 1960's. The Southside Cemetery is owned and operated by the City of Tallahassee but there is no information on the city's website. It is one of five public cemeteries owned by the city, totaling 43000 burial plots. The cemetery is so close to capacity that there is discussion of buying back unused plots https://www.tallahassee.com/story/news/local/2020/05/14/city-tallahassee-buy-back-grave-sites-its-burial-plots-dwindle/5189273002/ and acquiring an adjacent lot to expand the property. Very little information on this cemetery. Two famous musicians are laid to rest here - Julian "Cannonball" Adderly and his younger brother, Nathaniel "Nat" Adderly. It is in good condition with well-paved lanes and clipped grass. There do not seem to be any limits on headstone sizes or flowers as the cemetery is quite busy with them. Paid homage and respects to the late, great Julian "Cannonball" Adderley while in northern Florida. Cannonball, his brother Nat, and their Mother and Father are interred here. Lovely headstone and open location, easy to find. Rest easy and thank you for the incredible music! read more
