I feel like the sales people including the owner are very aggressive from the moment you get in! They are asking you about the budget and trying to sell you all kind of bourbon bottles which are store pics and cannot sell! I bought several bottles from them which were very bad tasting. They have a lot of allocated bourbon bottles which they pretended the THEY ARE GIVEN THROUGH A RAFFLE?!! It's a big lie, I would not believe a minute what they are trying to portrait. Hands down one of my favorite liquor and wine stores. I travel for work and get to check out stores all across the country and Southern Spirits is by far one of the best. As a bourbon drinker you really have to respect their selection. Tons of great bottles to choose from and their selection of store picks is amazing. I was in heaven last year when they had not 1 but 3 different Yellowstone picks. Staff is always super helpful and willing to get suggestions if you're not sure what to pick. Now for the fun part. Southern Spirits handles allocated bottles better than any store I've ever seen. They host tons of cool blind lotteries, big release drops where camp out and choose from some of the most sought after bottles. They even hosted an Olympics style event last year with some great bourbon on the line. If you're in the area they are definitely a must visit for anyone who enjoys wine and spirits. read more

They are not actually open on Sundays!! Their advertising is misleading, only their poor and unorganized selection of wine and some beer is available for purchase on Sundays. Also! All their exclusive and rare liquor isn't even available for purchase, it can only be randomly "won" at a blind raffle. That could leave you paying way more for a regular bottle when you bought the ticket trying to get a rare one. So, no they don't have all these great picks available, they sell it to who they want to while making a shit ton of money off of everyone else. All for Instagram views and scamming money off of people instead of just selling liquor like a genuine business. read more

Here's the thing about this place. If you're grabbing liquor, it's fine. Whatever. Same price as an ABC store in NC. Be VERY careful on the beer side though. It's a hot mess. No organization and CHECK THE DATES. Half their IPAs are like a year old or more. IPAs hazy or west coast don't last that long. They turn to butter. I don't drink any IPA over 60 days old and it was like trying to find a needle in a haystack there. When visiting Charlotte, I found myself just across the border in South Carolina. I saw a highly reviewed liquor store, and I said, "Why not?" I'm so happy I went. Well, I'm happy, but my wallet is not. First of all, the liquor and beers are in two separate parts of the store. Go to the left, beer. Go to the right, liquor and wine. I took a stroll through the liquor and wine side first, and I was quickly offered help. I was really there for beer though, so I made my way to the beer side. Multiple folks were working to stock the shelves. I was also offered help a few times, which was nice and helpful. I found the beer I was looking for--and then some!! I loved the selection of local beers from both NC and SC, and they also had some great international beers (I had to snag a Belgian I had a few weeks ago in Belgium). I used to shop here. However, this month they started flying a plane with banner advertising over residential areas, causing disturbances. This plane flies daily, multiple times a day, at low altitude, flying over many normally quiet residential neighborhoods. It rattles windows and disturbs people on work calls. So here I am, visiting my cousin in South Carolina, when he says "hey let's go to liquor store around the corner from me." At first I was a little confused I saw they had a bunch of beer and mixers, then I walk into the wine area... And there it was, a wine I've been trying to find for ages back in NY, Cannonau di Sardegna!l by Sella e Mosca. I first had this wine in Little Italy, New York City. I have had a hard time finding it at any liquor stores by me, but it just so happens I found it here when I was t looking for it. They have a fantastic selection of Italian wines with even better prices, and the staff is very friendly. And with the new mandates, I drive past many ABC stores in Charlotte just to go there even though I live five minutes from the closest ABC. Well worth the extra 20 minute drive.. I've been going out of my way to shop here for more than a year, specifically because of their customer service including the Boozeletter. Sadly for the near term I'll have to avoid it. Southern Spirits is literally the ideal liquor/beer store. This isn't just about selection. It's about pairing the selection with a homey feeling, a knowledgeable staff that know you by name and take the time to know what you like and remember what you had. The selection is truly a plus here, whether it's Keith and his bourbon, Martha and her wine selections or A.J the not so angry beer guy and his beer and bar. It is and will always be about the customer here. It is the reason I still make a trip on Saturdays from South End passing numerous ABC and Total Wines to visit these guys. Their rewards card program is just genius and helps build that necessary relationship. The bar is spacious and offers plenty of natural light for those Untappd pictures you are sure to post. My favorite thing about the bar though is such a small touch, it shows an estimate of how much of the keg is left. There's nothing like falling for a beer on a menu and when it's being pour it kicks, Nothing to see here folks, find something else lol. I really like Southern Spirits. On most visits, the staff have been really friendly and helpful. (There are a couple of exceptions here, but generally the folks are friendly.) This is one place I get some less popular liqueurs (such as Averna from Siciliy) that you cannot find at Frugual McDougals or the Meck County ABC stores. They also have a ginormous selection of vodka, rum, and a good selection of blue agave tequila at various price points. They also have a huge selection of mini bottles which is a great way to try something new. They do have tastings from time to time, both in the Spirits section and in the Wine section. They have a decent selection of beer and wine, but since the Total Wine at the Promenade opened, I prefer to go there for their beer & wine selection & prices. However, for the "hard stuff", I definitely will head down to Southern Spirits! read more
