Even if you don't have a boat for a small fee you can just fish right off the docks of the Marina (and there are some huge redfish jumping all over the place around the docks). It is the only place in the area so some of the things are priced at a premium so plan accordingly. The Marina offers an excellent fish cleaning station that is so convenient that it makes it worth your while to pay the launch or dock usage fees so you don't have to do the messy job at home. When the guy asked him "we, we, we, well how many fish did you catch?" my boy replied "5, 5, and 5. (Pointing to each of the three persons in his group as he said 5) Why!? What the fu@& do you CARE?!" and he hurled some insults about his speech and intellect... The guy didn't stutter one bit. He pulled out a badge and said "I want to know because I'm with wildlife and fisheries. You're not 5, 5, and 5- because I've been here watching you the whole time. You're 5 & 10 over the limit at $500 a fish. He is zero, and he is zero (pointing at the other two guys), so could you please sign this citation and I'll see you Monday morning at the courthouse on canal st. with your $5000 fine!!" We all liked to die when the guy lost his "disabled act". Everyone let their guard down partially because we were in a place where you pay, think there's some type of protection, but nope!

Heaven on Earth, Grand Isle State Park is truly special…read more Grand Isle State Park deserves every bit of five stars, especially seeing the incredible work being done rebuilding after Hurricane Ida. The resilience here is inspiring, and the experience is absolutely worth supporting. This place is breathtaking. We kayaked every single day and saw dolphins constantly, entire schools swimming with us. The new rock jetties have attracted so much marine life, making every trip on the water unforgettable. The water is beautiful and crystal clear, and the sand is soft, not muddy like many coastal areas. Camping right on the beach, whether RV or tent, is an experience everyone should try at least once. Falling asleep to the waves and waking up to endless ocean views feels like pure peace. All spots are just on the north side on the jetty's. The camper spots are paved, with 30/50amp power, water, level with tons of space and there is a dump station in the park. The park hosts are incredibly kind, welcoming, and genuinely helpful. The park feels very safe and secure while still being quiet, peaceful, and not overcrowded. The entire island is amazing. There are convenient spots all over to rent kayaks right by the water for around $20. The local supermarket is a hidden gem. It has everything from beach gear to hardware supplies to groceries. Several lovely restaurants are rebuilding and thriving after the 2021 hurricane, which makes supporting this community even more meaningful. The pier is currently down as of February 2026, but there are still plenty of places to fish, explore, walk, and enjoy the scenery. We loved the area so much we extended our stay twice. Grand Isle isn't just back after the hurricane. It has been amazing the whole time. We absolutely cannot wait to return.

I say this because many people take their dogs down to the pavilion by the boat launch because that's where the hose is located. Keep your dog on a SHORT leash and beware of your surroundings. Gators like to hang there right around the corner.

Now lets get to the park itself. There is an area specifically for dog that is small but enclosed. There are picnic tables and a couple of boat launches. You can access the walking trail that extends along the south side of the waterfront. This is between the levy and the water of the lake, so I am sure they block it off during storms. We ordered shrimp gumbo, bronzed shrimp, a shrimp platter, a shrimp salad and an oyster po-boy. The shrimp gumbo was very good. Although it was a only a cup, it had a good amount of large shrimp. The shrimp platter was very good as well. The shrimp were butterflied (I prefer non-butterflied) and fried perfectly. The platter came loaded with fries and four pieces of toast. The shrimp salad had homemade ranch which was excellent. The bronzed shrimp and po-boy both looked good, but I didn't try either. Our server seemed disinterested and never brought some of our party utensils. She wasn't very friendly either. The food made up for the poor service. If your in Chauvin, and want a good seafood meal, head to Sportsman's paradise. I should also mention that they sell really cool t-shirts.
