I had never had henna done before and I was so excited to have my first ever henna tattoo done by a Black woman! I love supporting other women of color in their gifts! I had a henna party at my house and Shawna was amazing! Each design was unique and she finished them in such a short amount of time. She prepped the group on what to do before she got started and gave great after care instructions. It's almost been a week and my henna is still going strong...dark and vibrant. I've been wanting to try Henna for years and was so excited to get the opportunity, especially with the company being Black owned! Of course being a lover of butterflies, I chose that for my first Henna experience. My second time I picked a picture from her book and she did a freestyle so it wouldn't be exactly the same! As much as I loveddddd my butterfly, I love my flower more. It'll be a week tomorrow and the stain is still so dark since I followed the aftercare instructions I'll be going again for my vacations and I want her to design a future design for a foot tattoo! I reached out to this business my baby shower. She was very prompt with communication when I first reached out to her. She arrived on time and prepared. Some of my guests were unaware of what henna was and every question that was asked of her she answered to my guests satisfaction. After each henna art she did she provided everyone with an aftercare card that was very helpful. She followed up after the event to make sure I was pleased. Although she was a very nice lady and we chatted a lot, the henna was not worth it at all. I love supporting black businesses but this was $30 plus a $5 that just was not good. By the second day my tattoo peeled off and only half of it showed up, it looked as if parts of it was nonexistent. I especially thought the stain would have longevity, since the woman is African American but that was not the case; by day 4 the henna was extremely faint and wasn't dark at all. She offered to redo my henna tattoo but it just wasn't worth me sitting there for 45 minutes to be disappointed again. Not to mention she started 15 minutes late. read more

I love the look of henna and Southern Henna did not disappoint! I received my first session from Shawna, the owner of Southern Henna, at a marketplace I attended. She is an amazing black woman and made me feel so comfortable during the process. I enjoyed her and her work so much that my friends and I scheduled a henna party the following weekend. At this party, I realized that Shawna is not just an extremely talented artist, but she is very knowledgeable in the art of henna as well. She explained the process to all of us and with the proper care and maintenance that she advised, my henna piece has held the stain very well and I'm well into day 7.
