Best food we have had in a really long time! We live in Huntsville and it would be worth the drive to get more delicious Cajun food. We got the gumbo - super creamy and tons of seafood and I got Salmon Zydeco- my salmon was on a bed of seafood cornbread dressing with a corn dish poured on top. It was an explosion of flavor in every bite. My husband loved the shrimp and onion rings. And the dessert was so good too. I cannot say enough good things about this place. We will be coming back! Food was not great. Steaks extremely over seasoned. Redfish was very dry. Service was poor. Never received any drink refills and only seen our waiter three times. Once for our order second time for appetizer that had to be sent back because of food allergies that was asked about before ordering and then to receive the check. Let ne begin by saying I like Southern Grocery. Until tonight my experience has been very good. So I hope tonight was a one off. Got off to a good start by being seated right away. However after our order was taken wehad a lengthy wait for our food. Our server came back to state that the kitchen lost our ticket. Server apologized and resubmitted our order. He offered a salad or appetizer on the house while we waited. That was a nice touch. When we received our food I was disappointed in the composition and the tempatures of the food. My muffelata and onion ring was ok but not great. The sandwhich was served on a hoahie roll instaed of traditional muffelata bread. Instead of layering individual slices of meat, it looked like they took a half a pack of pastrami lunch meat and put it on the roll. The onion rings were good but luke warm. My wife's fried shrimp was good but the cheese grits side were both hot and cold as if the nuked it only part way. One of the others in our party had zydeco chicken with twice baked potato. When it was served the chicken was buried under a large pile of corn which had to be scaped away to get to the chicken. This was a surprise to everyone in our party. Made the dish look bigger than it was. That amount of corn was a total waste. One final item, one would have expected that since this was a reorder that it would have been served hotter than it was. Southern Grocery My girlfriend and I went out for date night at Southern Grocery on a night in September. We were greeted promptly by our server, Ben, who welcomed us warmly and offered suggestions for an appetizer. After ordering drinks we landed on the Southern Trash Board, which is the Southern/Zydeco riff on a charcuterie board. A few minutes later, Ben delivered a board with: pimento cheese, three Devine Deviled Eggs, whipped feta cheese, smoked sausage, pickles, naan bread (I think), pork-rinds, and a sriracha honey chutney. The combinations were fantastic, and every bite satisfying. A short time later out came Ben with our entree's. We opted for the Zydeco Shrimp with corn maque choux, crawfish stuffing, and southern style turnip greens. Ben asked if I wanted pepper sauce to go with my greens. After tasting them I declined! They were flavorful to the point of being competitive with Husk's greens out of Nashville. I was quite impressed with the maque choux. The blackened shrimp was also quite tasty. My girlfriend opted for the Pork Tenderloin skewers, wrapped in bacon and brushed with the honey sriracha glaze. Sides were: cheese grits, and the lobster Mac and cheese. The lobster Mac and cheese was definitely worth the $6 upgrade because it had lobster in every bite. And the tenderloin was also savory, juicy, and cooked to perfection. I can say without a doubt that we will be back. I'll be asking for Ben again! The atmosphere has a timeless charm that works perfectly with the menu. It wasn't loud at all so we were able to have a wonderful conversation over our meal. I highly recommend this eatery for the price point. Expect to pay a little more than other local establishments, but also expect to be impressed! read more

This was my first visit. My brother raved about it so I was eager to try it. - Atmosphere is nice and casual. - arrived Sunday and seated quickly 205p. Post church rush. - server very polite and smiled. Took drink and appetizer orders immediately. - however, dinner order taken 225p but not served until 315p. We all felt that was excessively long, especially since we were the only ones there post the lunch rush. So dinging them for that. - my chicken was overcooked and dry, which was disappointing. Chick-fil-A, grilled chicken breast are more moist than what I was served. Huge ding for that. - the kids fries were delicious! - presentation was nice. I'll give them one more chance. read more

First, Yelp needs to update the operating hours for this restaurant. They are open for lunch, and the get a huge lunch crowd. We went there for lunch while in the quad-cities area. It is a very nice restaurant, and big inside. The waitstaff are kind and very helpful. I had the house salad with salmon. It was a big piece of salmon and looked great...and it was great. My husband had the lunch special...jambalaya...and said it was great. Their bar is huge, and that same evening we stopped in for a beer. Eclectic scene, and good beer choices an great mixed drinks along with a good wine selection. read more

Stopped in for lunch, so glad we did! Had the whipped feta for an app while we decided on lunch, it was truly hard to decide! We've tried Southern Grocery twice and disappointed is a nice word to use. First time I got the crawfish stuffed shrimp and the shrimp was COMPLETELY RAW. 2nd visit we waited over an hour and a half for our food. Never received all of our trash board appetizer which was $20 just for that and didn't receive all of it. The waitress who was helping our waitress had a horrible attitude and gave us attitude like answers when we asked where the rest of our appetizer was. We never received the pickles or sausage for the appetizer. Entree was cold but yet had to wait 1.5 hours for it. $105 completely wasted. Will NEVER be back. read more
