On April 1st, I went in and saw Dr. Kidd to get my eye exam. I noticed while there that the tech - a very nice girl - was doing more than any other tech did; meaning she was tweaking my Rx and everything. She dilated my eyes and had me looking at the screen and all that. I remember telling her that I've never had a tech do so much. Usually, it's the dr that does this part of the exam. Dr. Kidd then came in on the tail end, looked in the back of my eye and then tweaked my bifocal and called a wrap. She handed me my Rx and told me that I could use their eye store connected to the clinic, but they don't take hardly anyone's insurance, (but the clinic DOES take it?) I went in there, informed the lady in the clinic that I have THREE types of insurance and she informed me that she doesn't take any of the three. Since I've had dealings with LensDirect.com, I went through them and sent off my frames the same day.
On 4/15, I got my glasses and saw that I couldn't see out of my right eye. I needed to know if it was an error of LensDirect.com or Dr. Kidd. I tried to call Southern Eye Group and was 7th in line. Working from home, I couldn't wait so I went to Costco and asked them to run my new glasses through the machine and see if the Rx was wrong. Of course, that machine is an approximation, but the tech said the Rx seems to be wrong. The eye Dr. at Costco wanted to be triple sure. He then put that Rx into the old bifocals (with those circular lenses that they slide in and out of the glasses) and had me look at a chart. I couldn't see out of my right eye. He then had me tweak a dial (that I later found was the axis) until I could see clearly. Upon doing that, he was able to gather that my Rx I was given was wrong, but to be TRIPLE sure, he gave me another exam and got it perfect. Without telling me, he flipped a switch and I told him, "Whatever you did, I can't see out of my right eye." He then told me, "THAT is the Rx Dr. Kidd gave you. She messed up your axis. You are .25. She gave you 1.25." He apologized on behalf of Southern Eye Group and then explained to me why things like this happen so much.
Places like Southern Eye Group have it where drs see about 60 patients a day. (Costco's Dr. sees about 15 a day.) They technology is set up to quickly run through patients and the eye dr comes in on the back end and asks if the patient can see straight and if they can, they let them go. They don't do any deep dives or take more ownership. You're in and out. I then went on to pay for TRIPLE FOCAL, progressive frames with Blue Light Filter and AR *INCLUDED* as the STANDARD for $129!!! AND unlike Southern Eye Group, Costco takes my insurance SO I GOT THEM FOR FREE. (I got a pair of Gucci frames for $200!!!) They even put a rush on my glasses so I could get them faster because as of the date of this review, I've gone 3 weeks w/ no glasses driving around and working from home.
On the way home from Costco, I called Southern Eye Group again and again was 7th in line. I waited in line all the way home from Costco off of Government Street to EIGHT MILE, got home, urinated AND had a seat before the phone was answered. I told them the situation and was transferred to a Kelly Kruger.
Kelly Kruger referred to herself as the "Practice Admin," but on her voicemail is called the Director of Operations. Originally, she said that she would refund my $84 for the exam I had to pay for AGAIN, but she later took that back after she asked me for documented proof. She then tried to DENY the proof THAT THE DOCTOR GAVE ME and said it doesn't prove I was given the wrong Rx. When I told her that they were legally responsible for giving me the wrong Rx, she didn't deny it, but refused to put in a liability claim so that I may be reimbursed for my troubles due to their eye dr's honest mistake. She went on to say that she isn't going to give me the refund b/c I can just go to LensDirect.com and deny they did their job and get "double money." I told her that wouldn't fly because they could in turn run those lenses through THEIR machine and know they didn't mess up and that money would be put right back on my card. She then kept calling it a "refund" and says she can't give me back money for something I didn't buy from them. (It's not a refund. It's damages.) This has been going on for 3 days now and she's come up w/ a multitude of excuses to justify not escalating my issue to resolution. Now I have to file complaints w/ the state, the BBB, everyone else I can get a hold of AND GET A LAWYER to get back $366. Kelly said she was the "head person" at that there was no one over her. I called back and got a supervisor at one of the locations and not only found out she reports to Dr. Gupta, but she also handled my escalation incorrectly so I put in a complaint for her as well. read more
