had a very troubling experience with SouthEnd Psychiatry / RA Psychiatric NP Services PLLC. Based on my experience, the therapy side may have good providers, and Lissa Dey was professional and tried to accommodate me. She told me I could see another prescriber the next day because I wanted to change prescribers due to communication issues. However, leadership gave me a completely different story, and it felt like the goal became to get rid of me rather than address my concerns. My concerns involved my prescriber, Adaora Gbanite, and leadership, including Dr. Justina A. Momah. I asked reasonable questions about my treatment, medication plan, prescriptions, documentation, medical records, and continuity of care. Instead of professionalism, I felt dismissed and treated like a problem for asking questions about my own health. At one point, my prescriber said it was "unfair" to her that I was asking more questions and going deeper into details about my own health and prescriptions. We had discussed one medication, and then she wanted to switch me to a different medication I had never heard of. A patient has the right to ask questions before taking a new psychiatric medication. They listed a prescription in my chart that I never took. I asked them to correct my medical records, but the records were not corrected, and I was never sent the prescription they said I was taking. I was told the practice was "at-will" and could terminate services at any time. I repeatedly asked to speak with someone in authority and asked for written clarification about whether they were terminating my services. Those requests were never answered. Instead, communication basically stopped, which felt like possible patient abandonment or neglect. New York professional-discipline rules identify "abandoning or neglecting a patient or client" needing immediate care without reasonable arrangements for continued care as unprofessional conduct. They also address intimidation/harassment and accurate patient records. I escalated my concerns to the New York State Office of Professional Medical Conduct and the New York State Office of Professional Discipline. Communication was very difficult. When I called customer service, I did not reach a live person like a regular medical office. I had to leave messages through an AI system and wait for a call back. You can text, but it was hard to speak with someone directly. My prescriber also called from blocked/unknown numbers that did not clearly identify the practice. I asked to use email for accountability and documentation. In my experience, the practice resisted putting things clearly in writing. When care, prescriptions, records, and possible termination are involved, clear written communication matters. Another concerning moment happened when I told the practice manager/director that I intended to record my own conversation for documentation. I was told that recording would be a "Class E felony." My understanding is that New York is generally a one-party-consent state, meaning a person who is part of the conversation may generally record it. The prescribers listed on the website or online listings did not appear to actually be available to me. I was told there were no other prescribers available for me to change to, even though earlier I had been told I could see another prescriber the next day. It felt like I had to accept whoever they assigned, or be pushed out for asking questions. I personally went to the listed office location, and it was in the basement/lower level of someone's private home. That is what I personally observed. For psychiatric medication management, that made me uncomfortable because it did not feel like the organized medical setting I expected. Mental health is serious. Patients should not be dismissed, intimidated, threatened with termination of care, or made to feel unsafe simply for asking questions. Think carefully before using this practice. read more

I didn't even get past the initial appointment and I'm glad it didn't work out. I scheduled my appointment and confirmed over the phone with someone. My appointment time comes and I'm practically ghosted. I called the number that I confirmed with, and the person on the phone said they have no record of me, and they "don't know what's going on." I asked to reschedule the appointment and then they repeated "they don't know what's going on so they'd like to call me back." Then hung up (?) I had a very disappointing experience with South End Psychiatry. My provider, Melissa Issac, prescribed a medication that I later became uncomfortable taking after researching the potential side effects. When I brought up my concerns at our next appointment, she sighed and seemed frustrated that I didn't want to proceed with the medication, even though I was simply trying to communicate what I felt comfortable with as a patient. During our first appointment, she also described me as "unstable," which I found offensive and unprofessional. Because of this experience, I called the office to request a different provider. The staff told me they would call me back the same day after checking other psychiatrists' schedules, but they never did. A few days later, they texted me offering an appointment with Dr. Justina Momah, which I accepted. However, 30 minutes before the appointment, Dr. Momah contacted me saying she was not my provider and that I should be seeing the original psychiatrist I had asked not to work with. When I explained that the office had scheduled the appointment with her and that I had already requested a provider change, she told me she was not accepting new patients and repeatedly mentioned a "strict policy" about switching providers. She also raised her voice and told me it was "illegal" that I had not personally informed my original provider that I no longer wanted to see her. As a patient, I do not have direct contact information for providers and relied on the office staff to handle that request. Overall, the situation felt very disorganized and unprofessional. I ended up missing an important appointment because of the office's lack of communication and conflicting information. No patient should be spoken to that way or made to feel like they did something wrong for simply requesting a different provider. I ultimately decided to leave the practice. read more

She scheduled a meeting with me to see if she wanted to take me on as a client. No meeting like this happened with dr smart. This was my first clue it wasnt going to go well. In short. Dr. Momah asked me to tell her my side of the story as she had a meeting with dr smart (who apparently has been saying i was being difficult and refusing medication behind closed doors, which is an outright lie) looked bored the entire time i was speaking, thanked me for advocating for myself and very politely told me to get to stepping because my relationship with her practice was toxic. Im pretty sure she moved up my appointment from 4:40 (when it was supposed to be) to 3:15 so that she could comfortably be rid of me before her work day ended. Its friday. I am in need of new ADHD meds, and I was told information that was not factual by the provider, who flat out refused to up my prescription when I told her the meds were not working. I was given a dose of Vyvanse appropriate for a child (10mg) when it's medically suggested everywhere that the starting dose for adults is 30mg. I had to fight with Adaora Gbanite to even up my dose to 20mg. I had to beg her, and when I told her it wasn't working she again refused my request. I will no longer be using this practice. The provider refused to listen to what I need and as a fifty year old mom I was talked down to and treated like a child who can't make decisions for herself. I will never use this sham organization again. I don't know who provides these people with licenses, but they should be stripped of them. Shame on them. This place goes out of their way it seems to hire unprofessional therapists and psychiatrists who call you two hours late or frequently cancel at the very last minute and then don't respond to rescheduling requests or contact billing to tell them they cancelled, or go on about their personal lives in session, or end the session after 5 minutes. The scheduling people are in India at a call center and have no idea about the providers. They'll schedule you for appointments WITHOUT ASKING YOU and don't respond to changes. My psychiatrist talks to me for 2 minutes and hangs up. My therapist i saw was ok but mostly just goes through questionnaires about if i have anxiety (trust me, i do and have been on meds/in therapy for 10+ years). If you have GHI try like hell to find somewhere else, even if it's hard. Try Talkspace--it's been much better than here. read more

Here we go. I gave 2 stars only because the intake nurse, Sue, was a good listener and the person who texts me regarding appt times seemed pleasant. This is one of those 'medical management' services that pick and choose who to serve. If you have severe problems or other health concerns, this is not the right place. I should've written this review 2 months ago but I was assuming that my provider, Adaora Gbanite, just didn't like me. I took it personal. I ruminate. I have obsessive thoughts. I've cried during a session and her response? 'Use your coping skills, and write a review please'. IN THE SAME BREATH. My last 2 minute session? She had me on Vyvanse 10mg for a month, implying it takes time. Vyvanse is a stimulant. It would work same day. First, I checked every legit medication site. Vyvanse 10mg is for a child. I am an adult. I am a Registered Nurse. I assumed (which i'll never do again) that perhaps she was introducing the medication into my body to see if I could tolerate it. No dice. I felt nothing. 1 whole month. I was hopeful for the next visit. I explained. She stated she bumped me to Vyvanse 20mg. My pharmacy didnt have 20mg capsules. Some back and forth. 'Ada' tells me they might've had the 10mgs but they frown up giving multiple capsules to fulfill a single dose. Anyway, I get the bottle from CVS-----it says vyvanse 10mg, sooooo I take (2) 10mg caps to fulfill her directions..........THEN ENDED UP SHORT because by the next visit, she says 'No, you were supposed to take (1) 10mg.' Yeah...you never stated that. I hate the word 'gaslight' but there it is. So, I told her that the vyvanse 10mg wasn't working and even when I ''''''mistakenly''''' took 20mg, that didnt work either. She tells me she's not going to bump it up. She wants to continue the non-working 10mg. So I told her I dont feel comfortable pumping myself with a medication that has no effect, especially something like a stimulant. I told her that FDA, drugs.com, WebMd and every legit source states for an adult, starting dose is vyvanse 30mg. "I am not going to give you Vyvanse 30mg". To which I responded that I'm struggling big time. Like how am I supposed to feel confident working with patients if my own life looks like a crossword puzzle. She even shrugged her shoulders when I suggested that maybe an app could help my symptoms. One final 'I don't know what to do. The vyvanse 10mg isnt working and I'm so overwhelmed'. Her response: 'Do not question my clinical judgement. Do you not want the vyvanse?' I said 'no, please' thinking we'd discuss something else. Ha! Jokes on me. She said fine and ended the call. WHEN I TELL YOU I CRIED! I still get this tin prick-like pain in my chest when I think about her and the way she treated me. I rarely get that pain and it's usually when I'm heartbroken. Why pursue an NP degree and take up a career in psychiatry if your going to talk down to people. I have so many things going on and have come near death a handful of times yet, I'm able to put my personal issues aside to care for my patients. Respect. Listen. Care. Ada, if you read this, please know that our interactions have worsened my life. I begged. You treated me like dirt. I can't shake this feeling of ugliness and helplessness you triggered since our last meeting. I was your patient, desperately trying to get a hold of my life so that I could continue adequately helping children and contribute to society. I needed help. You refused to listen. Please. Please, be forth coming to your clients if you feel that you do not want to be their provider. I'm still here by the grace of God and I dont want anyone to ever experience that type of pain: being vulnerable then rejected. I begged South End for a different provider, but, as you can see from the reviews, you won't get who you ask for. I was set up with a different provider, who, after the session, determined that HE WAS NOT THE RIGHT MATCH BECAUSE HE'S IN FLORIDA. I reached twice more spaced out by a week. They ghosted me. Reading the reviews helped me see that I was not alone in my treatment from this place. Many of us share the same experiences. Im happy for the patients that received the help they need, but if you're 'unstable' or consider yourself 'moderate' to 'severe', be very careful. My psychiatrist, Dr Glick, has been great, but the office staff has been unable or unwilling to file a prior authorization with my insurance correctly for my antidepressant for 3 weeks, resulting in a relapse in my anxiety and depressive symptoms and development of every single antidepressant discontinuation syndrome symptom in the book (GI issues, insomnia, mood swings, irritability, debilitating dizziness, brain zaps). This has left me avoiding leaving my house, forgoing social events, and struggling to meet my work and school obligations. Not to mention that when I can finally get back on my medication it will take 4-8 weeks for it to take effect again. If you try to call and speak with a supervisor, a triage nurse, or an on-call provider there is nobody to talk to and they just want to schedule you another appointment-- but why would I when 3 appointments in 3 weeks has gotten me no closer to receiving my prescription? SSRI withdrawal cold turkey from the highest dose possible when I've been on an SSRI for five years and my brain chemistry is used to daily medication has been one of the most unpleasant experiences I've ever been through-- at the beginning of an important academic semester for me. And for nothing, because office staff can call a 24/7 hotline or log into a website to receive real-time PA results if they wanted to. I would do it myself if I could. Dr Glick is also not licensed with my insurance, so every time I see him and he sends a prescription, I have to either have an additional appointment with another prescriber or call the office to ask that another provider sent a prescription because they haven't figured out a workflow for their known administrative problems that doesn't create a burden for the patient. This was a terrible experience, probably a scam as other reviews suggest. Unfortunately I was desperate and gave south end psychiatry a try because I've been going through a really hard time and thought maybe it's time to seek help. While the intake person was nice. My follow up with Adaora lasted 30 seconds before she was saying she was going to start me on multiple medications. The first thing she said to me was hello, what can I do for you? I was like... what do you mean? Aren't you a psychiatrist? She said it again, what can I do for you? This woman was a complete robot, she didn't even bother reading my intake notes. I asked her multiple times if she knew my situation and she said she did but she acted as if she didn't want to go into detail about what I was going through... how could she be so confident in prescribing patients medicine if she isn't even willing to talk to them! She was completely disconnected, lazy, judgmental and flat out rude. I was so disappointed I started to cry. I genuinely needed a professional opinion, diagnosis, advice, something, but she gave nothing! I asked her how was the medication going to help me stop feeling and doing things that I knew were unstable. She seemed bothered that I had more to say, questions to ask... she abruptly replied they are going to help the chemical imbalance in your brain. It felt very scary to accept any prescriptions from a practice that treats people this way. I just wanted to know that what she was prescribing was actually going to help me, not hurt me or make my situation worst. I saw Dr. Emma Otieno this morning. Upon telling me she was having a bad day, which I was most empathetic about as I have had many, she decided to lower my medication without discussing it with me further. She did not relay this information to me on our call, but instead through a text message. I did not wish to lower my dose and it was not discussed with me. I have found a combination of medication that works and it took me a long time to find. I will be going back to my other provider as he never would have changed my medication without discussing it with me. I can't tell if this is a real office or a scam. I met with a therapist for a virtual visit to get a new prescription for a medication I have taken for 2/3 of my life. They told me I would need to do a new assessment, which is an additional cost. I paid it, completed it and I have not heard back from the office for almost a month. The physician on my assessment is also not the same person I met with. I have sent numerous emails inquiring about the next steps and several calls to the "admin team" who always say they will call me back and never do. If you are a real person with real needs, do not use this office. I have already filed a grievance with my insurance company. It's completely unprofessional to play with people like this. I've taken an antidepressant for years, and had to suddenly find a new psychiatrist because my insurance changed and my old psychiatrist (who was on maternity leave) no longer accepted my insurance. On top of that, I was about to go out of town for 3 weeks, and needed a refill. When I explained that I was worried about withdrawal, Dr. Momah was rude, cold, unsympathetic, and accusatory. She asked me if there's a reason my condition had worsened recently, and I explained that my mother has been dying of a degenerative terminal  illness. She responded, "OK," and changed the subject. After all that rudeness, she begrudgingly agreed I was on the right medication. AND STILL she wouldn't give me a refill until I made another appt, and then blamed me for taking an int'l trip (a vacation I had booked before my insurance changed). Let me start by saying thank you. For my entire life I struggled with anxiety and depression from trauma and I didn't realize i had, I had the mentality those things are just in your head, life is hard suck it up , you have to deal and meds are for the weak minded. Dr.Justina Momamah was the first psychiatrist to treat me as a patient, a human and not just another script to fill. She followed up with me religiously every 2 weeks listened to any concerns or side effects and tweaked my medication accordingly. Especially as someone who struggled with self medicating through alcohol abuse and sometimes other drugs. She cultivated a treatment plan that helped save my life. I was in such a dark place of overwhelm there were days just getting out of bed was a struggle, suicide ideation was real and the bottle was the only thing that consoled. While tapering off the booze, sticking to meds and slowly implementing new healthy habits my life has changed drastically. A year later, Im off medication, relocated to the state of my dreams and implementing new healthy habits that help me to maintain my overall wellbeing. It's not easy , but Dr. Momah helps you to see the light in that dark pit. Consistent check -ins and always making sure my medication was readily available, coupled with holistic wellness advice and her soft engaging demeanor made me feel seen and heard. I highly recommend to steer FAR AWAY from this practice. The staff is poorly coordinated and the doctors never actually care to see you based on your demographic; they send you nurse practitioners who are extremely incompetent and neglectful. I have been in the hospital 5 times already from neglect from this practice. I won't specify who for legal purposes but three NP's who have power trips gave me wrong medical information and harmed me many times. I don't know how they still have their licenses but, specifically Dr. Talia Spruce, is truly EVIL, INCOMPETENT and ignorant of medical advice involving drug interactions and instructions. she has risked and endangered my life. I have documented every single interaction, she also has missed many appointment has made me wait for over an hour and many times skipped appointments many days. The Staff members are polite but are absolutely full of lies about when I will receive a follow up from the director or provider - which I have documented and recorded as well. The medical director is hiding away also ever since I got my attorney involved with malpractice and a major law suit. This practice is money hungry, unorganized, and fully incompetent. They do not value patient care. They do not care to follow up when they absolutely promise they do. Which again, I have time stamped, recorded and names of every single individual I spoke to. I've been in danger so many times and the response I receive DAYS later is the most insincere robotic apology despite how calm, respectful and cooperative I have remained and still am. This is unacceptable, inhumane and I have complained to BBB as well as many departments who I am very well connected with in both the medical board and state level to expose the corruption and lack of prioritization of quality patient care in this bogus practice. I have never dealt with such a disorganized office in my life. They have doctors from all over the US trying to prescribe however they can't retain their employees. As soon as I would make progress with one doctor they switched the provider without notice 3 times. It's takes weeks to recoeve prescription medicine. If you're looking for help don't use them it's been a waste of 6 months. Everytime I thought I was making progress they would switch my provider and I would have to start over. Very poor experience with Rakisha at this facility. During my appointment, she told me she would prescribe one class of medication. Then when I spoke with the pharmacy, she actually prescribed an entirely different class of medication--and not what I had come to her for. I called the facility back SEVERAL times to discuss and got no response from her. This was a waste of my time and money. read more
