My husband and I booked a 3 hour trip today. We were in a group of 6 riders. The walk was beautiful Thought the woods to the overlook. Our guide Bobby was excellent! The horses are in great shape. This is a business and I have seen many businesses where the animals are not well cared for. THIS IS NOT THE CASE HERE. We started on our walk out, someone noticed one horse limping. We turned back, switched out the horse for another then carried on. Speaks volumes. The animals matter. Saddles are comfy. Bobby was helpful and attentive. Restroom on site at the barn was clean, had soap and fresh paper towels. I can't say enough about this operation! read more

I'm a professional horseman of 30 years. I've worked with saddlebreds, polo ponies, Grand Prix dressage horses, jumpers, trail horses and more. I've NEVER seen horses work the way these horses work and I've never seen trail string horses so well kept, sound and solid. I was blown away from the first five minutes of our ride and didn't stop smiling even by day three of riding. Bobby is a character in the best way and he cares about these horses, his customers, and his reputation as an outfitter- a rare combination these days. We booked a three day pack trip and despite rainy weather and severe storms forecasted we had an experience of a lifetime and Bobby went above and beyond to give us the best value possible. I own three horses of my own and care for many others seven days a week and yet I cannot wait to come ride with Bobby again. read more

What a great 1/2 day ride into the big south fork. I now know what all the talk is and it lives up to its amazing reputation. Bobby, our cowboy guide was entertaining, knowledgeable about all the trails and we felt totally safe with him. We will be back. read more

What more can I do but reiterate the previous reviews? First off these were the cleanest most well taken care of horses that my wife and I have ever ridden and that's saying something. The guide Larry really lives and enjoys the life and is more than happy to try and share that with you. The views and trails are AMAZING! We took a difficult trail due to our experience and it was breathtaking!! Please if you're even close to here and want a memorable experience look Southeast Pack Trips up!! read more

We had a wonderful trip, two full days riding with an overnight at Charit Creek Lodge. It was a great experience. Larry McMillan, our guide and owner of Southeast Pack Trips, knows the Big South Fork area very well and selected a great itinerary through the NRRA that was perfectly matched with our interests and skill level. One of the best aspects of this firm is how well they can customize a trip to meet the needs of any group - age, experience level, length of trip, and interests. The Big South Fork area is beautiful and we were able to see and experience part of its wonder on this trip. Our horses were very well behaved, and had plenty of energy to travel around the park. We got more than we expected, and we enjoyed it immensely. We hope to do it again. read more

Larry is very willing take your trip everything you want it to be. The horses are healthy, well trained and well taken care of. The day rides are not sissy at all...don't expect just a slow walk down a gravel lane. You get into the forest and narrod, deep tracks just large enough for the horses to pass. It's an amazing trip and you feel safe the whole time...between Larry and his crew of staff (the horses) they male sure you have a good time. Go see him for a great horseback adventure. read more

Larry was a great guide. He was friendly and told us about some good places to go see on our vacation. His boss however is not as nice. I called to set up our trip and explained that I was 18 and she was 15 and needed to know if it was okay for her to ride on her own, he VERY quickly said oh yeah as long as there is an adult(me 18), and we set the time, end of conversation. Well in the middle of our ride Larry stops and asks why we lied. Really? I'm paying you and you called me a liar when I've don't literally nothing wrong. So we get back and are waiting for our ride and Larry's boss proceeds to whip up and demand that I show him my ID. He was VERY rude and after he snarkily asked how old I was after seeing it and I explained I was 18 born in 2000 he handed it back rolled his window up and drove away. NO APOLOGY. Wouldn't recommend this place if you don't look your age. I may look young but that is no reason to disrespect me AFTER I paid you. read more

Southeast Pack Trips - Riding Red. Sweetheart, unlike his boss. - Horseback Riding Near Me - Jamestown, Tennessee

We went on a morning, two hour ride today and we had a fantastic time. Larry was full of information and knows this area very well. We have been on many horseback riding adventures but never, ever like this one. For about 2 hours you almost see and feel like the cowboys of the old west because of the terrain. Hills, creeks and the national park.. I would highly recommend this riding stable. You can't put a price on this experience. Richard & Mary 6/14/17 read more
