She makes learning something to be discovered, like treasure he finds every day. He is always wanting to learn more about whatever they are currently studying. The Kindergartener loves his teacher too. He is learning so much and becoming a very inquisitive child. He is making great friends with the other children and learning how to talk with adults. It's wonderful that both kids are encouraged to interact with God on a personal level every day. They are asked to memorize scripture and pray regularly. Eastern Hills Christian Academy is an amazing place where my children are safe. They are learning every day and are being taught by people who want the same things for my children that I do. I never doubt that the people who work there love their jobs.

This school has been absolutely perfect for our family since he was diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum as being a child with High-Functioning Autism. He is not in a special education classroom and is not on an IEP and does not need to be at this school. The school treats each child as an individual and educates them to their specific needs and abilities. The school has a four-day school week and there is no homework being brought home. My nephew has been allowed to advance at his own level, even up to the next grade level, and does not have the stigma of being treated like he is in special education. All children are on a behavior management program where they are rewarded for good behavior and he is frequently going on field trips. Bullying is treated appropriately and I'm ecstatic to hear my nephew be able to actually say for the first time that he has "friends." He has sensory issues with clothes and is allowed to wear clothes that are comfortable to him. I like this school because my nephew is treated like a capable child and for the first time in his life is enjoying school and really likes his teachers. It's a pleasure to see him come home from school in a good mood and a lot of his behavioral issues at home have greatly decreased since he has been enrolled at this school. I would totally recommend this school to any parent who has a child on the autism spectrum and/or has ADHD/ADD, or has any type of learning disability.

The school is located past the Coronado Mall in a beautifully kept church. The church is clean and the classrooms are medium-large and welcoming with cubbies and wonderful activity centers as well as toys. The bulletin boards and walls are kept neat with projects posted and daily and weekly activity records listed. School starts promptly and ends promptly; the school does offer before and after care, and if a child needs either care once in a while and there is room, the school allows it and the care is rather inexpensive. School starts at 9:30 p.m. and ends at 1:00 p.m. It is a nut-free school and lunches must be packed. Snacks are brought in by the parents and rotated depending on the teacher. Our teacher had us rotate by week and I enjoyed trying out new healthy recipes on the kids who, for the most part, seemed to enjoy them. The curriculum for the three year old class was outstanding. Although my daughter did not come home with papers everyday, thankfully, she always told me about what she learned and how much she loved school. At this age, a lot of the teaching involves play, but St. John's also included the whole alphabet in the curriculum and thoroughly went through it. I was also impressed that they involved the kids in the 2008 presidential election process. My daughter's teacher was very experienced and I felt that she gave my daughter great attention. The teacher-to-student ratio is also quite low which helps as well. As a Christian institution, it also supplied the Christian values we wanted our daughter to learn about even though I and some other families who attended were not Christian. Keep in mind when factoring in price into education that St. John's has ASCI accreditation and although it may at first seem costly, it is well worth it. The current preschool in Ohio, where my youngest daughter is attending and my eldest attended, costs about the same and is on par with educational value.

We re-enrolled our kids, hoping Sunset Mesa's policies would change for the upcoming year. One week before school starts we receive an email that masks will be optional indoors for unvaccinated elementary students. A parent asked Alan Mask what it would take for him to reconsider his decision and he said that it would take more parents complaining, which goes to show that Sunset Mesa is weighing their bottom line against your child's well being. Delta variant cases are increasing as we speak, but Sunset Mesa wants your money! Sunset Mesa is a business, and your child's well being comes second!

Why do I like Sunset Mesa? Mainly, unlike other preschools in the area, Sunset Mesa tries hard to be an actual school. Instead of me paying to have someone keep my daughter distracted with Sesame Street and sugary drinks, they try hard to teach her something. Since starting at Sunset, I've noticed that both her reading level and math skills have improved dramatically. My daughter also really enjoys the other students since the teachers keep fighting and bullying out of the classroom. The childrens' parent seen to be mostly Sandia employees or military. Also, a child has to be at least two and potty trained before the school will admit him or her. The price is steep compared to other places in Albuquerque. To me, the place is worth the money. Preschool is definitely somewhere a person gets what they pay for.

This lovely building and playground is nestled right up against the fields off Montaño Rd, behind the church and set away from the busy traffic. The outdoor play area is spacious and has a lot of variety - staff told us it was just newly remodeled before this school year started. The classroom is big, bright, open, and beautiful! They have so many play-directed, exploratory learning activities and stations - the learning/teaching method is absolutely ideal. They even have a quiet space for kiddos who need a break from stimulation where they can quietly spend some time alone if needed; I thought that was an incredibly thoughtful and empathetic way to support children who may be more shy or have social anxieties. My kids absolutely love this school- their peers and their teachers. This was our third try, looking for the right fit for our son. We feel so lucky and blessed that they had space for us this year. This is my daughter's first year in preschool and it is so wonderful knowing that the class structure encourages mixed-age grouping and integration- for big chunks of the day, the younger kids can freely interact and engage with the older kids - which is proven to support healthy development:) then in other parts of the day, they break off into similar age groups for planned curriculum to teach to their specific levels/needs. Child to teacher ratio is low, so individual needs and attention are easily met, and everyone builds stronger relationships. We have felt a part of a real community here, not just passing through. Every staff member is warm and kind, and makes effort to engage us as parents in a meaningful way. I was told that Del Norte is the smallest high school compared to all of those within the Albuquerque Public Schools (APS) district. Back in the day when DNHS opened in 1964 it was the most northern property in the city (hence, the name), so nothing was more north than the campus. My has this city grown! SIDE NOTE: Very few of my yelp friends know that I substitute taught for three consecutive school years; I made my schedule open to all high and middle schools, yet I only subbed at certain elementary schools because I already knew I was a better fit for older students. In those three school years, I discovered that I really work best with high schoolers compared to any other age group; therefore, I just had to find a location that worked best with my volunteer and family schedules. I found my spot. On a funny note, DNHS refers to its campus as the Castle. So, the Queen of Albuquerque found a place for her crown. ;-) Anyone using the yelp app knows who sometimes holds this title. *wink* What I love about Del Norte High School: ODE TO DNHS. Okay -- my heart is really signing this and not my voice. I appreciate the staff and faculty, the new building, the location, and the students. As of the fall semester of 2014 the cafeteria is still being built, so if you drive by the Castle, you'll see the construction underway. The projected completion date is the fall semester of 2015. First your child must be self motivated and proactively pushing their own education. Second there needs to be significant parent involvement in what classes they take and addressing issues with the school administration when they come up. With these two things your child can get an above average education at Del Norte. Without them you are looking at average at best.
