The office staff was very helpful in showing me the facility, helping me to fill out the paperwork, and navigate the enrollment process. The building is easily missed from the outside, however once inside, you feel the warmth and love for the children from everyone from the cooks to the teachers. They truly love these kids. The teachers are kind, empathetic, patient, and treat each child with respect. My daughter loves her class and her teachers. They teach farm to table and family style dining, which is reflected at home. My daughter has tried a large variety of foods and enjoys almost anything I make now. They are intentional with their fieldtrips and their classroom activities. She is beyond ready for kindergarten, and I am very sad to leave the Christina Keny Community. I highly recommend this school!!

The outdoor play area is spacious and has a lot of variety - staff told us it was just newly remodeled before this school year started. The classroom is big, bright, open, and beautiful! They have so many play-directed, exploratory learning activities and stations - the learning/teaching method is absolutely ideal. They even have a quiet space for kiddos who need a break from stimulation where they can quietly spend some time alone if needed; I thought that was an incredibly thoughtful and empathetic way to support children who may be more shy or have social anxieties. My kids absolutely love this school- their peers and their teachers. This was our third try, looking for the right fit for our son. We feel so lucky and blessed that they had space for us this year. This is my daughter's first year in preschool and it is so wonderful knowing that the class structure encourages mixed-age grouping and integration- for big chunks of the day, the younger kids can freely interact and engage with the older kids - which is proven to support healthy development:) then in other parts of the day, they break off into similar age groups for planned curriculum to teach to their specific levels/needs. Child to teacher ratio is low, so individual needs and attention are easily met, and everyone builds stronger relationships. We have felt a part of a real community here, not just passing through. Every staff member is warm and kind, and makes effort to engage us as parents in a meaningful way. I highly recommend anyone with preschool age children to take a tour, meet the staff and decide for yourself. They fill up fast, and you might get on a waiting list- but it's worth the effort to know you have found one of the best schools in the city to care for and educate your little ones.

If you are at all affiliated with the University of New Mexico, (and I have a friend who audits one…read moreonline course a semester just to gain access to this place) this is a facility that is unlikely to be matched for a couple reasons. First of all, they have an unfair advantage in facilities. There's not a lot of day cares that can afford such an institution with about 9 age-segregated buildings a giant court yard, 6 age-segregated playgrounds, and a full office staff without state subsidies and student fee. So take advantage. There is a primary teacher and about two assistant teachers per room and the kid to teacher ratio is well below state standards. The facility is very organized and they have a long term development plan which goes from infancy through the Pre-K program (which thankfully got some of it's funding cuts returned.) Kids leave this place with extremely good communication skills and are able to verbally resolve conflicts and express feelings and needs maturely by the age of four. They also seem to be very well prepared academically for public kindergarten. The prices are on the high side of moderate but not out of the vicinity of other top daycares around town especially with the student discount. There is a significant waiting list of about 6-12 months so I recommend putting your new-born on this waiting list and several others even if you don't intend to start daycare for another year or so. My five year old started here when she was about 1 and a half on a drop in schedule and moved into a half day by two and eventually a full day. She always had a good time and never once complained about not liking it there. She had several wonderful teachers that still know her and me by name. They still offer before and after school care for kindergarten but we've decided to try other places. My two year old went there for about a year and loves her teacher and I think the feeling is mutual.

That is laaaaaaaaame. Other classes include the test, as the MVD staff said they generally upload the test results to the database. Not this one, apparently. So what was the point of this class if it doesn't include evidence of "some idea of how to drive" for a dang LEARNER'S permit?? To boot, my kid commented that a fair amount of time was spent by the instructor plugging his book. I could've taught my kid the basic rules of driving to prepare her for taking a test. I really don't know what I paid this company for.

The school focuses on community service, equality, tolerance, peace, and a global perspective. The teachers teach and talk "up" to the kids (not down). Beyond incredible academics, the kids do the most amazing things, from learning musical instruments and music, to writing their own plays and creating the sets and costumes, to learning about the local eco-system, to learning organic gardening, to learning to give back to the community through multiple events throughout the year (we sponsor families in need during the holidays, recently volunteered as families at a local food bank, and do a food drive in the fall). The kids come away from Cottonwood not only light years ahead of their peers in all academic disciplines, but they also come away with an open-minded, global perspective, the ability to empathize, to control their own actions and reactions to the world, and to be clear and confident about who they are no matter what is going on in the world around them. The buildings are a bit less than stellar (nothing like a fancy school with a big endowment), but I like it that way because the focus in on the quality of the education and of the community, not on status or prestige. That said, the school has a very high percentage of kids that get into the top middle and high schools in the area. If the buildings were fancy, I think it would attract a very different kind of parent. That is why I'm almost afraid to share all of this because it is such a special place - I don't want the secret to get out! :-) We are so lucky that we found this very special school.

She absolutely loves her teacher, as do we all, and shows visible glee in doing her assignments. Over the years I've seen her confidence blossom by leaps and bounds. The assignments are fun meaningful and often engage the family. Working on these science, reading, and math projects on a regular basis has been a definite bonding experience for us. I've been on a couple field trips and the kids in Krystal's class seem really nice and friendly. The parents are very open, volunteer and participate in many of the extracurricular fundraisers and activities. I feel a sense of community that we are all very invested in.

We were not notified of this accident until my son started throwing up & when I got the call the secretary told me he had a stomach ache & was throwing up. They were trying to hide the fact that he had a concussion. Head injuries are very serious! When we spoke to the principal about this her response was "he's an athlete. So we didn't think twice about". Another injury happened, where he sliced his palm open with a pencil & again no call was made! I found out when I picked up from school & was told they couldn't touch the wound & had him rinse his hand with water. If there would've been a call (like any other school does when there is a injury) I would've left work to bring him supplies to properly clean the wound. The staff there is super rude, there is maybe 5 teachers that are friendly. The secretary/athletic director has no sense in how to run the athletic program & safety again is a issue when she let's first graders play in sports with 4th graders. She will just glare at you & won't speak & that's how majority of the staff is. The second grade teacher Ms Hamby is awful! She has no control over her class, she will not communicate with parents & if your child isn't a staff members child she will definitely have it out for your child. They continue to raise tuition every year but nothing changes, the lunch program continues to get more expensive but the servings are smaller, the one thing I have noticed is parents become "teachers" & they will either get free tuition or drastically reduced so that to me explains why they continue to raise tuition. Who knows if these parents have teachers degrees/certifications, my son's computer "teacher" had them watch videos on how to make PB&J sandwiches, that's not computer class to me. You pay alot to send your child to a private school & to have the staff not care about safety & also just the straight up rudeness from them especially since they preach about Christianity & kindness it's not ok. I would not recommend this school, one star given simply because he was learning about God

It is not a large school with a maximum of 12 students per class, which I find to be amazing. The teachers are able to give students more attention which helps establish positive relationships and build trust in the classroom. There is also a lot of parental involvement and lots of fun activities that the school offers through PTFC. If you want a small Christian school that has sports, fellowship with families and high academic standards I highly recommend this school.

She is hardly ever in the office, and almost impossible to get a hold of to conduct business with. No members of the staff respect her- and this lack of respect aides in the unhappiness atmosphere of this day care. Although the kitchen staff is quite friendly- none of the food your child will be eating is flavorful or nutritious. Much of it is plastic wrapped pancakes, burritos and I have even seen reheated pizza for breakfast the next day. We ultimately left the day care after our child began having melt downs in the morning's when left with a specific teacher. Another child in the same class was so afraid of "said teacher" that she would wet herself when her mother tried to leave her. Needless to say, they no longer attend little Sunbeams either. Save yourself and your child a ton of frustrations and heartache by choosing another daycare!! And to the daycare board- I hope that you can re-create the loving healthy atmosphere Ms. Renee brought to the daycare, by bringing in a new director.

I am so happy that we have a home at Little Sunbeams. We have made great relationships with the other families and the teachers. At each step of his development I can easily say that he was/is in a safe, age-appropriate, caring and inviting place for hands-on-learning and growth. He loves to go to school (Little Sunbeams) and has a variety of friends from Chef John, Brennan in the morning, the Dance teacher on Thursday, Tracey B, Pastor Greg and the Scott in Tuesday chapel, all the teachers, and of course his classmates - all who help form this rich environment. In the past 4 years the center has had changes in staff, as do all business, but I can honestly say that every person who has contact with us or with my son truly has his and our best interest at heart. Renee, the Director, and various teachers throughout our tenure have visited with us to be sure that we are all on the same page. If it is working together on potty training, sitting still in circle time, or how to encourage writing/fine motor skills or it is important that we are all working together for our children's development. Bumps, bruises and spills are inevitable and my experience has been that the staff err on the side of caution and often phone to ensure that a parent is properly notified of anything out of the norm while immediately tending to the child. There is always a written form documenting the incident. We have brought various concerns - either about something with my child or policies at the center- to Renee and/or to our teacher and have felt that we are heard and that we are working together to help my child be both a good little person and developmentally sound. Praise and love are apparent everywhere, but I also appreciate the boundaries and consequences when they are needed. We just received our acceptance letter from Manzano Day School for Kindergarten next year and are sad to be leaving Little Sunbeams in August, but very excited to know that he will be well-prepared for his next chapter in life.

We moved here a couple years ago from Las Vegas, NV where my daughter attended a Christian School from Pre-k thru 6th grade. Hope is a joy compared to her last school - no cliques, very friendly and caring staff that are easily accessible. When I went to this school as a black girl teachers had assumed that I had parental problems and that my life was going the wrong because apparently I didn't have a father. Me and my siblings were constantly verbally attacked with stereotypes and slurs. I would be walking around and someone would yell at giving me dirty looks and asking me if I was going to play basketball or run track. It was time for us to watch a presentation so the teacher had asked me to turn off the lights and once I did the white boys had yelled "where did ******** go?!" saying I had disappeared from the room. Whenever I would wear an all black outfit the boys would ask me why i'm not wearing any clothes. Then when I was in class learning about history, more specifically slavery, I would always get looks or be asked if I know anything about the slavery or the teacher would apologize for her ancestors treating my ancestors like that. If there was a word that they didn't know how to pronounce, the teacher would ask me how to say it assuming that was my "language". Any other black person who was there the students would ask if we are either related or dating. Lastly, for sports I was on varsity for every sport I did especially track the coach himself had said that he knew I had more energy in me since my ancestors had run a long way so I should be used to it. When I asked for a water break the coach said that he thought i was used to not drinking water frequently, that is a quote. I wouldn't recommend going if you are black.
