I was in Elko for a week and needed a place to do laundry- saw that South Side Laundromat was "the best in Elko."
The best part of Southside Laundromat was the sweet woman that worked there. She was kind, helpful and attentive, for her I would go back, as for the ambience of the place it was a reminder that Southside Laundromat may be the center of the Dystopia that exists in parts of Nevada: kinda like the Mos Eisley Space Port Cantina in Star Wars.
There were signs everywhere "if you commit such an infraction as- using the change machine and not doing laundry, use the bathroom and you are not a customer: you will be arrested."
I was lucky to glimpse the owner who stormed in with his "muscle or entourage": a cowboy carrying a holstered pistol and some part-time apartment painter as he demanded to know from the sweet old woman: "WHY is it so damn hot in here!?"
Her reply: "the dryers?"
He became upset that one of his dryers was out of order.
Unlike other Laundromats: this one does have an attentive owner. Though Having grown up near the City of Chicago, and seen some pretty sketchy places and situations, it concerned me that someone needed a holstered weapon.
But it is Nevada, sketchy people are everywhere. And Nevada really is "The Wild West."
The Laundromat was clean, and all the equipment operated well. Unlike the laundromat across the street that smelled like vomit, the Southside Laundromat was pleasant.
I sincerely worry for the owner that the place may be taking an unnecessary toll on his sanity and health. read more
