We said goodbye to our 13 year old beabull Mabel today. Mabel was very sick with multiple health conditions( many clarified by Dr. McAdam' s diagnostic work). Dr. McAdam took the very best care of her from the first day we brought her in. Unfortunately, Mabel' s dx was beyond treatment at the end and euthanasia was the only compassionate way to alleviate her pain. I cannot say enough about how respectful Dr MAdam was with our sweet girl and how she prepared us so well in knowing how this procedure would transpire. We felt very comfortable in her competent care. Mabel was so peaceful and had the most beautiful ,loving transition to Heaven that we could have hoped for. She deserved no less and we are forever grateful for Dr. McAdam and her staff that assisted us today ( and at each visit). I would not hesitate to recommend South Shore Animal Services to anyone , especially if you have an elderly dog who needs compassionate care. Thank-you Dr. McAdam. Outstanding compassionate care. Dr Judy cared for our dog as best we could have hoped for. She had an autoimmune disease that ate at every area of her body. We spent almost 20k at tufts over a year, I received good care but it is run as a business. (The tufts care was emergency which was needed for various procedures to save her) but Dr Judy cared for our dog Lola's needs and comfort. She extended her life as best she could and truly cared about my dog and my family. read more

If you care about animals, this is not the place for you. We had a scheduling conflict with our regular vet (for neutering) and someone at the dog park told me about South Shore Animal Services. I brought my sweet 10 month old Siberian Husky in for a pre neuter evaluation visit. It was a 30 minute drive, and my puppy was nervous about the new building. Some lady came into our exam room, (didn't introduce or identify herself) and my pup jumped on her. She caught him and held him in the standing position. I grabbed his paws in an attempt to guide him down and get him to sit, but she said "no! I'm doing this on purpose.." I said "it's ok, I have him now." She said, "it's NOT ok, I don't appreciate being jumped on!" My dog yelped. She said, "he needs to feel pain so he knows it's not ok to jump." She had him by the paws and was SQUEEZING HIS PAWS SO HARD HER KNUCKLES WERE WHITE!! This is why my puppy yelped in pain. I pulled him away from her and ended that abuse. What kind of vet uses pain and punishment to correct an already scared and nervous puppy?!?! This crusty old maid is lucky I was mindful of what might happen legally if I "showed her some pain so she knows that's not ok." *** I don't know if there are other doctors there, but Judith McAdam "DVM" is evil. She was so angry with my sweet, but scared and nervous puppy, she was grinding her teeth (dentures?) visibly hateful woman. Run far away!!! read more

Honestly I wouldn't give any stars but that's not an option so ‍ Sorry for the long post but it's important you hear my story. My cat Sheeba is 12 years old and has had ongoing constipation issues. She is my whole world. I brought her in to see this vet out of necessity. I'm a first cat mom and don't make a lot of money but I try to do what right for her. I started to see the signs of her constipation coming back after her prescription dry food ran out and I took her in hoping I had caught it in time. Dr. Judith did a quick exam noting that Sheeba is a 'chunker' and then proceeded to take her back for tests. I sat In that vets office and waited while Sheeba had tests done as I had taken a Lyft there and I really didn't want to go and come back but the things I observed while sitting there... I'm a silent observer a lot of the times. Just watching... the other staff are great, kind and compassionate. The vet came back and in a rush and told me that my baby was severely constipated according to her X-rays. That we might even need to do surgery but wanted to try to treat her medically first. I'm trying to process this as she talks treatment. So basically over $300 later I'm home and now I'm pumping my poor baby full of lactulose and trying to feed her gross slurry's of her wet food that she refuses to eat. This was Wednesday 11/17/21 two days later she still hadnt pooped and that Saturday she was so out of it I called her vet to see what to do and all they wanted was to have me bring her in for fluids. I know my Sheeba and we Had been through this before so I knew this wasn't going to work so I pushed for an enema which is what had to happen last time. After like 30 mins of holding they came back and told me I would have to wait till Tuesday because that was their designated procedure days. Looking at my baby I knew she wasn't going to make it that long without something so I ended up taking her back to the place that treated her when this all started months ago an urgent care center. They took her and did their thing and determined after more X-rays that she was in fact not constipated. Hearing this I was infuriated. The vet there said on the contrary even there was so little stool in her colon actually that it was mostly gas. They ended up also running blood work just to make sure everything else was ok and it is. But loooong story short Dr. Judith for whatever reason had misdiagnosed my Sheeba and the treatment I had been giving her was making her soo sick. After stopping said treatment the twice daily lactulose forced down her throat and the wet food slurry's also sometimes forced down the throat she miraculously felt better and is pretty normal now. I'm still worked on Getting her a second opinion/follow up and looking into mobile vet services because she hates leaving the house. I don't typically speak my mind on things like this but I feel very strongly about this and I want other people to know. Be wary of this vet office I wish I had known what I know now. My kittens were recently spayed and neutered at South Shore Animal Services and the care they received from Dr. McAdam and staff was outstanding. I was a little hesitant at first because the office was a bit hard to find (set back from the road... maybe a better sign if possible?) and it didn't look like the super glitzy hospitals I've visited before, but as soon as I interacted with the staff and Dr. McAdam I realized not to judge medical care by the surface! The care, attention to detail, and compassion they showed was unparalleled. I even had a worry about after care once I was in the parking lot, and Dr. McAdam herself came out to check on my kitten, give me tips, and make sure we were settled in well for the ride home. I brought my kitten in for her first yearly exam and shots. I don't know why they have bad reviews. They were very nice and knowledgeable. The prices were very reasonable. $51 for first exam and $50 for shots. Im also bringing my other cat in to b seen for chronic vomiting. Vca Roberts hasn't been able to do anything for him. South Shore Animal Services already has a plan and medication regime in mind for my Friday appt. I highly recommend SSAS. read more

I can not say enough good things about Dr. McAdam's. She has been my vet for well over 10 years. Her location in Hanover is by far my favorite, its so easy to get to. It's clean, modern and up to date. I love her no nonsense approach about pet care. Only doing what needs to be done, whats best for my pet, and not running a million dollars in test which is great for me too. For me personally Dr McAdam's has gone above and beyond so many times I'm not sure I could even count them. Like the time I had to have a toe removed on one of my dogs due to Cancer and the dressings needed to be changed multi times a day. I was scheduled to be away and was afraid to leave her with the pet sitter so Dr. McAdam's kept her with her till I returned home. What other Vet would do that? read more

PLEASE DO NOT go here if you love your fur baby!!! Last Tuesday we brought our 3 year old cat to be spayed and received a phone call mid day to hear there were some complications but not to worry because everything was going to be fine. I arrived early to pick Kitt up because I was anxious to see her and hear what happened. The Dr. told me one of her ovaries and kidneys were attatched and she separated them and checked all her organs, which were fine and functioning but she was giving her antibiotics to give her twice a day for two weeks. I asked if there was anything I should do or look for and she assured me everything was going to be just fine. Hours later I can hear my poor baby howling in pain, she couldn't even stand up. Her breaths were short and shallow and I knew we had to find an emergency service that was open. The VCA in Weymouth told us she had internal bleeding and needed blood transfusions and emergency surgery. Our family is heartbroken over the loss of our furbaby. When I called the office the next day to tell the Dr. what happened she said she was sorry but these things happen. Completely despicable and shameful and still kept our money. read more

Very upset with how our first and last visit to South Shore Animal Services went. I took my pup in for what was supposed to be a wellness check, but he started limping a few days before so I was having her check that out too. We get called into the exam room and Dr McAdams doesn't introduce herself to myself or my boyfriend, and more importantly doesn't introduce herself to my dog. No hand sniffs, no treats, nothing to make him feel comfortable. She immediately asks me to hold his head so she can get him to lay down. But instead of telling him "lay down" like any normal person would, and he would have on the first command, she decided to knock my dogs legs out from underneath him. So here is a total stranger, in a totally strange location, sweeping an injured dogs legs out from under him. Naturally, my dog barked at her. This woman YELLS AT my dog and gets all in his face, and then taps him on the nose. She gets the muzzle, which is understandable, but she puts it on so tight he can barely breathe. It ended up leaving a red mark on him for 2 days. Anyways. The final straw for me was when I mentioned my dog needed his booster rabies vaccine. So she goes and gets it, administers it, and AS SHES PULLING THE NEEDLE OUT says "I went ahead and gave him the LYME vaccine as well". Excuse me?! I never once mentioned the lyme vaccine, definitely didn't give consent for it, and absolutely did not want him to have the lyme vaccine. I am so furious. So then I had to pay an additional $45 for an unwanted vaccine at the end of the visit. Oh and she was complaining to me saying I didn't send her my dogs medical history/papers, even though I can see them clear as day in her hands. To be fair. The woman working the front desk was very nice. The "doctor" not so much. Overall an awful experience and I beg you to stay away from this horrible excuse for a veterinarian who is just trying to make money. She didn't even give my dog a wellness exam and the "leg exam" took maybe 60 seconds. read more

I've debated on writing this review for a while now because I know how badly negative reviews can hurt a new business but the more I think about our first (and now last visit there) and read other recent reviews, I'm compelled to share. Long story short: I took my dog to see Dr. McAdam to examine a small growth. Upon our first visit, she didn't even introduce herself to me, or to my dog really. She didn't even do a full exam, though technically that is what I paid for. She suggested a minor surgery and quoted me a price which I felt was fair. Although it turned that out he needed an additional oral growth removed and the price ended up being much higher than her original quote, that wasn't my main problem with her. My real concern was that when I picked my dog up that she was nowhere to be found! My poor pup was pooping blood immediately after walking out the door so I brought him right back in and the front desk girl (who was very kind) had to be the one to explain the surgery and what might be causing it. When the doctor finally called late the next afternoon, she seemed put off that I even had questions and couldn't remember what side of my dog's mouth that she had removed the growth from. On top of that when he started having some stomach issues from the antibiotic she gave him (one that he had never been on before but has done very well on another which was clearly in his records.) I requested the other antibiotic. She prescribed it and when I went to return the first one which cost around $40 compared to $5 for the one he has always taken, she wouldn't refund me the $40. I originally cut her some slack because she is moving into a new place, and from what I saw doing a lot of the work on the space herself, and at least on paper, makes an effort to be affordable, but a slightly cheaper price doesn't make up for sub-par care. I'm not a dog mom who is okay with not knowing every detail of what was done. I expect explanations and answers and at the very least for the vet to be there when I pick my dog up after surgery. I'm getting angrier as I type so downgrading from a 2* to 1* - the original extra star being for her semi-affordable pricing. Also, if you dig deep enough you can find other negative stories about her under her old practice's name in Duxbury, Ashdod Animal Hospital. read more

0 STARS. Dr McAdam operated on my cat because she had a lump near her face when she was in Kingston office.The day after she supposedly moved. My cat got very sick because they scratched her throat inside and from the medication. I had to rush her to the Bourne 24 hour hospital. Then when it was time to get the stitches out, I made an appointment to go to her NEW office in Pembroke. There was no office there and none of my phone calls where ever returned. There were several other problems and stories I heard about rescued cats. I would never take an animal to her again. read more

Very upset with how the owner treated my boyfriend and I. We took our dog in for a surgery and everything seemed alright until we went to pick our dog up after the surgery. The payment method we were planning on using (which they never told us was not accepted) did not work. This meant we had to basically come up with 500 out of our asses. As we were out front calling family members to figure out another plan to pay them, the owner came up to us, interrupted my boyfriends phone call, and just started yelling at us that if we didn't pay she would take us to court. We are just college kids, scared out of our mind that we won't be able to pay for our dogs surgery/ get her back to us. We never said we weren't going to pay, we were literally in the process of finding another method and she was unnecessarily aggressive and demeaning. I was extremely thrown off by the lack of empathy and care for her customers. The girls at the front desk were wonderful and I have no complaints about them. However the owner was rude and not understanding whatsoever. Very unprofessional attitude. read more
