The drive here alone is something to experience. Intense winds so strong that trees grow sideways. Views are gorgeous and you'll drive along farms with cows and horses close to the roadside. When we arrived and walked towards the cliff, we were amazed to see a group of people ready to take the jump off the cliff. Standing close to the edge nearby, I felt as if the wind was going to push me into the water. This southern most point of the island is worth a visit for the experience and views alone.

When we came the conditions weren't good to jump (it was winter, tide was not very high, cold and windy) so we just sat and watched the sunset instead, which was still beautiful. If you do want to jump, try to go during high tide and only go if you see other people jumping too. After the jump there is a ladder you have to climb to get back up. The road that leads out to here is gorgeous with huge grassy meadows on both sides. Would love to attempt the jump in the summertime.

Was a must see on our trip to the big island, having cliff jumping and being the most southern point in the USA! When we got there, the tide was out and the bottom of the ladder looked broken. Some people were still jumping in the same area and just swimming around to the left where you could climb up the rocks. Do at your own risk! Stil beautiful views and a nice coral beach to explore a bit further down as well.

Well worth the drive The cliffs are beautiful and the rolling green lush fields are something special Make sure you don't cliff dive alone it can be dangerous

The longer you look down, the less likely you're are to jump. I've jumped twice in the last 6 months. The 2nd time the "ladder" to get back up wasn't reachable because the tide was out. It turns out there's a much easier way back up, just swim 50 yards to the South. There's practically an escalator there compared to the "ladder". It's much higher than it looks, seems like you're falling for a long time.

As the southernmost point in Hawaii ... and the entire United States, ... South Point on the Big Island is worth a short detour from the Hawaii Belt Road (Mamalahoa Hwy) near Nāālehu (where you'll find the remarkable Punalu'u Bake Shop). If you ask me, I'd say: 1) "I've been there!" 2) "Wow!!" at the views, breeze, & waves 3. "WHOA" at the brave people jumping off the cliff ... or "whoa, whoa, whoa..." as you plummet I wasn't gutsy enough or dressed right (ya, that's why) to join the daredevils leaping & flipping off the cliff, but I was damn impressed. The climb back up the ladder looks shaky and for the fit ... so think it through before you dive. If you've got time, you can hike to the nearby green sand beach or take a 4x4 vehicle most of the way. We just parked near the diving area and explored from there. Which gave me a chance for lots of pictures and to say, "WHOA!" "Wow!!" "I've been there!" Which is really the point of visiting South Point, isn't it?

    Alex K.

Didn't have the balls to do this since I'm scared of heights, but I watched other plummet into the ocean. If I was younger, I would have definitely done this. The views are epic though and I can safely say that I've been to the most southern portion of the United States

    Ladder contraption

**CAUTION** The ladder to climb back up is no longer safe & stable. The fisherman out there have made their own contraption by attaching a chain to a utility ladder. It's only one chain, so the balance of the ladder is very unstable. I still recommend visiting South Point, as it's still quite the sight to see, but please double check the ladder before you decide to jump.

My Braddah from my elementary school days told me to go check this out. "Mean da dive! Higher den Waimea Bay Rock." Shoots brah! Challenge accepted! The drive: Takes about half hour from route 11/Mamalahoa Hwy. Paved road through Farm Land and cattle pastures. The road ends about 100 ft from the Cliff dive point. No 4x4 needed from this trip. If you plan on heading over to green beach you will need it or some good hiking shoes. The dive: Just jump!! The longer you wait...the fear and anxiety kicks in and you end up chickening our with your tail between your legs and walking back to your car. A local Braddah from OV gave me some encouragement and promised some Kona Brewing Big Wave Golden Ale after I jump. After a few minutes of overthinking and repeating "dis one dumb idea"....I jumped forward and hoped for the best! Mean rush!! The area is deep enough so you will not touch the bottom. The water is a beautiful blue ad crystal clear. The climb up wasn't bad at all. Before you do jump: 1. Check the conditions! Not a good idea during rough surf. (See pic. RIP) 2. Make sure no one is below before you jump. 3. If you're not used to diving from this height, dive in feet first. Your back/tailbone will thank you later. 4. Use the ladder with the black electrical tape on it. The rust on the other one will cut you up. Aloha and be safe!

    Mike D.

Yeah, you just first. I promise I'll watch just fine from here. Great view! Crazy jump! It is pretty safe jump lost of people were doing it. There is a rope ladder hanging do. That you may climb back up on. I really wish there was more info about this area. There clearly use to be something here. A building or factory, I'm not sure but details would be great. I bet Google knows.

For a few moments this Jeep was the southern most Jeep in the USA.

There's really not much that can be said about this place beyond the obvious. It's the most SOUTHERN point in the United States. It's a rocky coastline worth no real beach. But it's the most southern rocky coastline in the United states. It's a great place for a picnic, to soak up some sun, go fishing, hiking or check out some tide pools. It's a great place to get some perspective. It's also a place to stop on you're journey to the green sand beach. The black rocks of the coastline are home to black crabs known as 'A'ama. They scatter quickly when you approach them. I saw one jump. I call them "ninja crabs" because the move so fast. They must be jumpy cause they know how tasty they are. Tasty ninja crab. This is far from most touristy places on the Island but it's worth the trip if you are as big a geography nerd as I am.

From the sign that says south point it is about 10-12 more miles towards the cliff. Beware that the roads are narrow and is used for both ways.for the most part you have to drive a 'lil bit off-road to accommodate on coming traffic. The view is breathtaking nonetheless. Saw a tent that was pitched among the rocks,am not sure if they were camping or if it was a homeless camp. People were cliff diving even when there are signs that it's illegal. Parking is on a dirt road.

The team is super knowledgeable and does a great job grouping divers based on experience level so everyone has a good time. I'd also love to give a big shout out to Daniel and Cody who are always a blast and so much fun to dive with. Maxine is an awesome boat captain and Ashley was incredible dive master as well. She led our manta dive a year ago, gave such a great pre dive presentation, and was super thoughtful and fun to dive with on two separate occasions. Honestly, because of this dive shop we keep coming back to the Big Island and continue rebooking with them every trip. Highly recommend and I wouldn't look anywhere else for diving in Kona!

I've witnessed many dive masters, who don't do this perhaps fearing unsatisfied or offended guests? I also really liked how Hawaiian culture was integrated into the dive briefings. Under the water, he helped spot various endemic creatures. Another thing we really liked for the manta dive was the small group. On past excursions we've been with larger groups and were later to the site. Whereas this time we were first to the site and we were treated to a spectacular showing of mantas. Thankfully, they had space for our entire group for the sunset time (615pm check-in) and we didn't have to wait for the late-late slots. Online booking was easy-peasy (no kama'aina discount, unfortunately). We checked in (parking is street parking and there are several boats leaving from the same area, so it can be a bit of a challenge) pretty easily - there were folks out front directing us where to go for Sea Quest. I decided the $35 for the GoPro rental was a steal compared to trusting my waterproof phone pouch and I have no regrets - you can leave the camera running the whole time and they give you the SD card at the end. It was no trouble to do that once we got there, as I didn't add that when booking. They have a decent gift shop and the keiki in our party bought themselves some stuffed souvenirs. We got fitted for shorty wet suits and prescription masks if needed, and then waited for them to split us into boats and groups. We were accompanied in the water by Wylen (sorry if I butchered the spelling) and Abram, and they had the perfect blend of aloha, humor, and information. Super chill, but you also knew they meant business about Rule Number 1. From there, we boarded the boat, a small zodiac-style craft, for the 5 minute journey to Manta Village. The website made it seem like we could leave things on board, but that really wasn't the case. We left all bags, clothing, towels in a secure room on shore, slippers got collected on the pier, and small things like eyeglasses were stored in a bin on the boat. No trouble, but I wouldn't plan to take anything with you on the boat. Getting into the water was easy, and we had one keiki who was a little apprehensive about everything - they took great care to lower him into the water, and when he wanted to go back to the boat a little early, they accompanied him back to the ladder no problem. There were plenty staff around to help and also identify the mantas by their markings. And there were SO MANY mantas! We had an amazing evening watching them - I lost count and forgot many names, there were so many swimming past. We had 30-40 minutes in the water and we had multiple mantas around us the whole time. I thought the time was plenty - by the time we had about 5 minutes to go, my stomach was ready to be back on land. My only regret is not stretching my triceps beforehand - I was not expecting my arms to be so sore after holding onto the bar around the light board! We paid $135ish plus fees per person (all ages) and it was the highlight of the trip, for sure.

The guides took the tour out to the Captain Cook Monument, where the snorkeling was cool. The water was clear, the marine life plenty, and it ended up being one of the best snorkeling spots I've experienced. One tip: be sure to rent the flippers when you sign up. They made a huge difference and helped a lot in the water. They are not provided from the all in tour price. For the tour price you get the ride and snorkel mask with a floaty. They also rent life jackets if you need that. This tour is definitely geared toward people who are comfortable swimming and being on an open-air boat. If you're nervous in the water or can't swim or prefer a more relaxed boat ride, this isn't it. If you're looking for excitement, it's hard to beat. What really made the experience special were the crew members. Our captain and lifeguard were laid-back, friendly, and made everyone feel safe while keeping the atmosphere fun. The highlight for me was racing along the coastline at nearly 50 knots, bouncing across the waves and taking in incredible views of the island. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.

Think twice before booking with this company…read more I chose this excursion because it was shorter (2.5 hours) while still including snorkeling and a tour of the Captain Cook area. Unfortunately, the experience did not meet expectations. The first issue was the check-in process. The confirmation email tells guests where to meet but does not provide clear instructions on where to check in. Parking at this harbor is extremely limited, and Kona traffic can be very congested. Ironically, the company's own confirmation email emphasizes allowing a one-hour buffer before and after the tour and specifically advises guests not to schedule anything within an hour of the excursion. That warning exists for a reason. Despite everyone else arriving on time, our departure was delayed by nearly 30 minutes because the crew chose to wait for two guests who were stuck in traffic. As a result, every passenger who arrived as instructed lost approximately 30 minutes of a tour they had paid for while standing in the heat waiting. It felt unfair that those who planned accordingly were penalized because others did not. I expressed my irritation to the lifeguard assigned to our boat and was met with a dismissive response rather than an acknowledgment of the inconvenience. Once we finally departed, the captain welcomed everyone and said to let the crew know if we needed anything. During the safety briefing, I asked if my son could have some water. Instead of simply providing it or explaining when it would be available, I received a sarcastic response, and my son was not given any water. While the scenery and destination are beautiful, the customer service and handling of these situations left much to be desired. Better communication, adherence to the published schedule, and more respectful interactions with guests would have made for a much better experience.

The booking process was extremely easy. I called with several questions, and the staff was helpful, informative, and reassuring. Because it had been so long since our last actual dive, we chose to book a private divemaster for the two of us. We had completed a refresher in June 2025 for a planned dive weekend that unfortunately never happened, so we knew we would probably be a little rusty. Jack's also saved the day before we even got in the water. My personal Atomic prescription mask unexpectedly failed when the strap attachment tore out of the mask itself. I was worried I would either have to cancel or spend the dives as "Mr. Magoo," but the shop had prescription masks available and fitted me with one that worked perfectly. That level of preparedness and customer service made the entire dive day possible for me. Our divemaster, Sabrina, was absolutely fantastic. She was pleasant, friendly, social, knowledgeable, and incredibly patient throughout the entire experience. During our first dive, I had some difficulty clearing my ears. Sabrina stayed calm and helped me work through it, reminding me of techniques I had used years ago when I was diving more regularly and occasionally had "bad ear days." Both Kallie and I were a little rusty on that first dive, but Sabrina never rushed us or made us feel uncomfortable. By the second dive, my ear issues had resolved, we were both much more relaxed, and the old muscle memory started coming back--including some of what I learned during my Peak Performance Buoyancy certification. The difference between the first and second dives was huge, and Sabrina's patience and guidance were a major reason why. Sabrina also went above and beyond outside the dives themselves. While chatting with us about the rest of our trip, she recommended the Ocean Rider Seahorse Farm as a "must visit." We had somehow missed it in our planning, immediately looked it up, and booked the VIP experience, where Kallie and I each get to hold a seahorse twice. That recommendation made our trip even better. I would recommend Jack's Diving Locker--and Sabrina as a private divemaster--**100,000% and without hesitation** to anyone, especially divers returning after a long break. The entire experience was professional, safe, relaxed, accommodating, and genuinely fun. Sabrina also took all of the underwater photos from our dive day, which gave us some fantastic memories of the experience: https://arroyo.smugmug.com/2026-Photos-and-Pics/HI-Vacation-Big-Island/Day-3-Kona-Diving

We sat at the bottom of the ocean with lights and HUGE manta rays swam all around us! Kate was our dive guide and I can't remember the snorkel guides name but they were both great! I hadn't dove in about 2 years and Kate was so patient with me. I was a little nervous but she made me feel at ease. My husband even saw a baby tiger shark when he was snorkeling! They provided fruit, hummus sandwiches and drinks. If you're on the Big Island this is a must! They even took go pro videos and sent them to us!!

Feb 2026 - Based on my experience, I urge you to consider not doing business with this company…read more They appear to value revenue over the safety and comfort of their customers. Due to hazardous weather conditions, the tour we were on should never have left the harbor. Not only were the ocean wave conditions reported by the coast guard to be clearly dangerous, the driving hard rain made the conditions completely unacceptable not only for safety reasons but for customer comfort. Despite my several attempts to point this out to the staff answering the phone one day prior to the tour as well as the captain of the boat prior to departure, they blocked my attempts to reschedule or refund the trip in spite of coast guard and national weather service small craft warnings, beach closures and other tour operators canceling their tours under the same conditions. After waves broke over the bow of this small craft, the captain aborted the tour and turned around. After an unusually leisurely return to the dock, I called and asked for a refund. Later we were told based on our return time, we had received the full tour and a refund would not be issued. After escalating our concern, a senior member of the company emailed us and said we would be issued a full refund. Over six weeks later they have still not issued us a refund. We had to file a dispute with our credit card company.
