I was staying overnight in the city and needed to get my steps in to close out my Apple watch rings. That excursion brought me to this park. It is a cool urban park that seems like an oasis in the middle of all the concrete. You get incredible views of the Salesforce building from here, especially at night.

Remember the last scene in Woody Allen's "Blue Jasmine" when Cate Blanchett's character went completely bonkers and walked aimlessly into a park and sat on a bench talking to herself much to the chagrin of the woman next to her (scene: http://bit.ly/2qjAZ5v)? This is where the Woodman shot it as you can see the South Park Cafe in the back. Well, I don't live in the immediate area and probably last visited when I wolfed down an order of the short rib bibimbop from HRD around the corner. Jamie W. and I recently took a stroll in the area to take in the park's $3.8 million face-lift, and we were impressed. Understand first that South Park has always felt more classically European than any two blocks of the city as the oval-shaped park evenly splits South Park Street between Second and Third Streets with a curved line of buildings on both sides giving it an enclosed, exclusive character. Yet, it isn't exclusive at all as there are low-income SROs sitting next to what remains of the dot.coms, as well as media and design firms and long-standing restaurants like The Butler and the Chef. When things started to feel rundown, it just seemed like a waste given the obvious opportunity of urban renewal at hand. Well, it finally and gratefully occurred this past year with little assistance from the struggling tech firms. There are artistically pleasing ADA-accessible paths made with staggered concrete slabs (photo: http://bit.ly/2rcYtIQ), as well as improved lighting and even little stands for people to lean against or leave their cups of Blue Bottle coffee while they rearrange themselves. There are fresh benches as well as large concrete seating areas for easier people-watching and picnicking. The highlight is an undulating multi-purpose play structure that's ideal for kids (photo: http://bit.ly/2rd0Dby), not so much for entitled hipsters who should stay off (photo: http://bit.ly/2pK177T).

South Park is one of my favorite greener getaways in the city. South Park is surrounded by the small restaurants, cafes, and apartment complexes. It's a great place for families with children, couples, and anyone looking to take a short cut to mission street. The innovative playground is one large metal structure constructed with monkey bars, a built in slide, a tire swing, steps, and more. On a beautiful day, you can also see the Salesforce Tower.

Quiet, peaceful park. Very quaint, and there is plenty of seating area. The playground is very nicely designed and very pleasant to look at. It looks very fun to play on as well as adding to the urban landscape. I wish there was a park like this near where I live. There's also a swing, which is super comfy- I'm sitting on it as I'm typing this and don't feel like getting up. T_T

The little park that could. This area has turned into an area of $$$ restaurants. My uncle used to have a factory here. How different it looks now, probably thanks to the tech/software/game companies nearby... and maybe the ballpark. It's still quaint, except flocked by cute restaurants. I like the butler and the chef. Pass on the American Grilled Cheese Kitchen, though. Public Bikes is here; I like to window shop.

A humble little park that you would never expect to exist in the midst of the SOMA district (unless you've lived in that area). JONASAPPROVED!

My sister and I arrived before 8am at the Watershed parking lot and barely found a space. We did the trail that took us to the West Point Inn for the pancake breakfast and round trip was close to 5 miles so it was a great workout. There's gorgeous views and well! On the way back to the 101 however it's a mess. The road on the way down is crowded with parked cars, which makes driving through challenging. That's the only thing about this park, other than that I'd love to come back in spring when everything is green and vibrant!

Ever since then, I've wanted to hike this peak, today I have achieved my wish. Early June with mild coastal temp, 50s-60s. Started up Matt Davis Trail in the foggy forest, to Pantoll Campground, to West Point Inn where we can look down to the top of the fog layer, to the Fire Lookout building at the Peak. Then we came down reverse but split off to Steep Ravine and Dip Sea trail after the campground. I've also always wanted to climb that ladder. This hike provided views of the Pacific ocean on the West as well as views of Richmond-San Rafael Bridge on the East side. I thoroughly enjoyed the cool lush forest, but actually my favorite section was the single track along the slope of the open area after the Mt Tam State Park sign.

Let's also close down the streets from cars one day a week in the Summer so people can ride their bikes, skate, rollerblade, play and dance in the streets! How about on some warm weekend days we put huge concerts there that fill the grass for as far as the eye can see so people can bring all their friends to enjoy food, drinks, and music together. And the lake... let's make it so people can rent boats, and if they don't or can't row, they can peddle so they, too, can enjoy the waterfall and life on the lake! Let's also have beautiful statues around the park, definitely a Shakespeare Garden, and let's throw in something for garden lovers, like a Botanical Garden (a big one) and a Conservatory of Flowers. For more culture, let's add a Japanese Tea Garden with more lakes and flowers, and even a bridge in the shape of a circle. Let's also make this accessible to everyone, so some days, the museums are free (ie, usually once a month). And some entrance fees are lower for locals. (Check the websites.) Aaaaaand this is Golden Gate Park, and this is my favorite park in California, if not the entire country.

We really enjoy coming to Lafayette Park Playground this morning for an early Easter egg hunting…read moreevent--it's quite unique compared to other playgrounds in the city. The layout is more challenging and perfect for little explorers who love to climb, balance, and stay active. My 3-year-old always finds something new to do, and it keeps them engaged for a long time. I also appreciate that babies aren't left out--there are designated areas where younger kids can safely play too. The restroom is conveniently located and clean, which is a big plus for families. That said, some of the rocky edges can be a bit risky for adventurous kids, so it's definitely a place where you'll want to keep a close eye on them at all times. The only downside is parking--it can be pretty tough to find a spot, especially during busy times. Overall, it's a fun and exciting playground that's great for kids of different ages, as long as you're prepared for a bit of supervision and a parking hunt!

There is a rather large and modern kids playground and even more large grassy areas, both for those who want to lounge and for the dogs that want to run around.
