McIntosh Lake Campground & Rv Park - Another great RV park

My husband and I made a reservation well in advance and checked into this RV park today. We have…read morebeen camping around multiple parts of Florida for the last month and we also went on a cruise out of Port Canaveral. I would classify us as seasoned RV'ers and we are now on our way back to our home in Charlotte, NC. Our reservation here is for 4 days. Upon arrival, the host showed us to our site. We are parked directly in front of something called serenity hall - so during the conversation I casually said is that where the bath house is? I was then told that they do not have shower facilities available; nor are the bathrooms working currently. He said they used to have shower facilities available but shut everything down after Covid because people were stealing the toilet paper??? I explained to him that we absolutely must have a bathhouse with a shower and toilet facilities. He told me to call the office. I did so and spoke to a lady who I found out was his wife. I explained our predicament and asked if we could void our reservation and move to another park nearby that offered full services. This woman was as rude as she could possibly be. She went on and on about the fact that their website does not say that they have a bath house. I told her in all the years we've been RVing I have never had a full service RV park that has full hookups not have a bathhouse available. It is standard with a full hook up in a RV park. She continued to argue with me and I ultimately told her that I wanted to leave and would like a refund. She flat out refused saying that it was my fault for not looking more closely at their website. She even went on to say that lots of reviews they have also complain about the fact that they have no bathhouse. They would not give us a refund, even though the park is clearly 3/4 empty. This has been by far one of the WORST experiences in dealing with an RV Park I have ever had. Most RV parks I have visited go out of their way to be friendly and offer a good experience. Not so here. After hanging up the phone I went and looked more closely at their website - and in BIG BOLD letters they state no EV charging available - but not once do they say NO BATH HOUSE available! Absolutely ridiculous!! We will NOT be back and I would highly encourage others to stay away too. Just FYI - There is another RV park located close-by called Lake Harmony RV Park. Not only do they offer the exact same amenities as this place - they have a full bath house AND lower prices!! Call them at 912-832-4338. I will be using them in the future. The people running McIntosh Lake RV Park should be ashamed of themselves!! It's very obvious to me they take advantage of their customers - and it is all about getting their money; not about the customer having a good experience.

It was a beautiful site, right on the lovely lake where we could watch the swans gracefully swim by, There is a bird sanctuary that is part of the lake. We were amazed by all the flying birds at night. We sat outside, lit a fire and barbecued dinner. Normally we are always in a rush, but this time we decided to stay for two nights. The shopping is great and we went to Kroger's and Publix, instead of eating out at a restaurant. Pooler is a large city near by and we were able to get Freckles a jacket at Pet Smart. Dave also bought some things at Home Depot. We had a delightful two nights before heading to South Carolina and heavy traffic. We love the staff here and really feel welcomed when we return.

The staff here is extremely helpful and friendly especially our spotter, he made sure we were all set up and the site worked for our rig. The park sits in a beautiful setting with plenty of shade next to a 35 acre lake that guest have full access to. The location is the perfect place if you're looking to spend some time in nearby Savannah. KOA's are notorious for having very little space between the sites I found the sites here are separated by enough green space between the sites comparably and there's plenty of room to maneuver your rig in and out. This location seems to be very popular with over-nighters and the staff seems to group them together for easy exit. The check-in time is noon so there is a steady flow of campers getting set up until the sun sets. I booked our site using the KOA App which is amazingly easy as was the check-in once we arrived. We did have some solicitation during our stay from RV Detailers looking for work which is a little annoying and I didn't see of the guest during our stay contract this type of work. Considering the location and proximity to Savannah I thought the prices were very reasonable, they also have a fully stocked camp store which is very convenient. I would definitely book a site here again...

From a wildlife photographer's standpoint, Hunting Island State Park is one of the most…read morecomposition-rich coastal environments on the East Coast. The boneyard beach is the anchor. The driftwood structures aren't just visually interesting--they create natural leading lines, foreground framing, and layered depth that elevate otherwise standard coastal shots. At sunrise, when you get low-angle light cutting across the textures, it turns into a high-yield shooting window. This is where you can separate your work from typical "flat beach" imagery. The wildlife density is solid and consistent. Wading birds--egrets, herons, ibis--are active along the marsh edges and tidal pools, especially during falling tide. You can realistically work behavior (feeding, flight, interaction) rather than just static portraits. The maritime forest adds another layer with deer that are relatively tolerant of quiet movement, giving you opportunities for cleaner environmental compositions instead of tight, compressed shots. Lighting conditions are a major advantage. You've got: * Sunrise over the Atlantic clean directional light for beach/driftwood work * Golden hour in the marsh warm side light with reflective water surfaces * Fog/mist mornings soft, diffused conditions that simplify backgrounds From a technical standpoint, longer glass (600mm + extender like you run) is ideal for bird work, but you'll want something in the 24-105 range as well--the environment here is strong enough to justify wider compositions, especially when you can integrate wildlife into the scene. Accessibility is another win. You don't have to hike miles to get into productive zones, which means more time shooting and less time moving gear. That matters when you're trying to maximize short light windows. Bottom line: this is a portfolio-building location, not just a casual stop. If you time tides and light correctly, you can walk away with both strong wildlife captures and high-end environmental compositions in a single session.
