Coming to South Bay OB/GYN has been a fresh breath of air! My past GYN at a different clinic made me feel terrible and not hopeful. I had Dr. Sharar and she is truly the best. She is very thorough in her care and explained the procedure and questions I had. She's very kind and you can tell she truly cares about her profession. Even the staff are so sweet and make you feel safe. I've never had a better experience at a clinic before and I'd highly recommend coming if you are in search for an amazing GYN. Great great OBGYN! the receptionist are nice and do what they can to insure you an appt to your needs. The doctors are great and are always listening to my needs showing lots of care and understanding. The wait at certain times isn't the greatest but there are times of the day that your seen very quickly! read more

Excellent doctors unpleasant receptionist I've been waiting an hour and a half so far I've never waited less than an hour in the 20+ years I've been coming here, the doctors are the only reason why I continue to come... Because if it were depending upon the receptionists, I would've left ages ago, they are rude and I always have to show up in person to make an appointment, they never answer the phone, this is prior to Covid, years prior to Covid, so it is not Covid related, they're just plain rude, but the doctors are awesome! Came here only to find many have had the same complaint. The front desk staff is one of the rudest I've encountered. I was a patient here over 2 years ago and switched to another office due to wait times and lack of respect from the front desk. I called today to return as location is convenient and was told over phone I cannot make an appt without hand delivering records first from the gyno I used in the interim. The condescending tone I was spoken to with was enough for me to hang up and not want to return. read more

The absolute worst. They made an error with my daughter's prescription and sent it to the wrong pharmacy which only carried the generic form then blamed us for picking it up when we picked up multiple prescriptions. There were notes in the file for it to be sent to a special pharmacy and now we are unable to get the prescription she needs because they will not refill it. The worst part is they refuse to take responsibility for their own inept staff and no one ever picks up the phone. Do yourself a favor go elsewhere and save yourself some frustration. read more

The only reason I go to this office is to see the wonderful Dr. Sharar. (She is outstanding and worth the trip to this office.) However, the office is so unorganized. You have to call from outside the door to let them know you have arrived for your appointment, which I thought was a nice precaution with covid still around, but when I entered the office I saw staff not even wearing masks. I have to wait in my car for 35-40 mins, then wait inside as well. I have also had issues calling the office as I always feel as if I'm being rushed off the phone. Seeing Dr. Sharar is worth all of this, and I've heard wonderful things about the other doctors in the group, but just be prepared to wait and deal with the unorganized office. read more

They overbook, you wait forever. Doctors are fine, but front desk receptionist cold and snippy. Had a 11am appointment arrived ten mins befor,was still waiting at noon. That's when I inquired as to my wait time. Quite the first impression. For starters one of the front desk women is an absolute beast who solely cares about getting paperwork done before others safety. Secondly the nurse I had was EXTREMELY unprofessional and inappropriate, questioning why I stopped taking birth control and asking what I'm doing to avoid pregnancy since I'm young.. which from a medical stand point I understand but it was more coming from a place of judgment. Also disregarded my request for my fertility rates and bloodwork.. once doc requested order.. nurse rolled eyes. Dr Ammirata was amazing and extremely informative and addressed all my concerns which is why I did not give this 1 star. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! If I could give this place 0 stars I would! There's so many issues with South Bay OBGYN. Reading all the reviews I agree with everyone else that the wait time is TERRIBLE. I WAITED ALMOST 3 HOURS for my appointment last week. After waiting 3 hours I asked my doctor a question and she said "Oh I don't know. I don't have your chart with me." So I waited 3 HOURS to see my doctor who couldn't review my information or answer any of my questions! WHY!??? Before last weeks appointment...I received a phone call around 1:15pm on a Friday that I needed to have a biopsy done right away. The woman who called me couldn't answer any of my questions and rushed me off the phone. I called back a few minutes later to see if I could speak to my doctor, a nurse or any one who can give me more information and they were closed for the day and weekend. No one called me back until the following Wednesday! They also close if there's a little bit of snow and they close the day after as well. I've been waiting patiently for my biopsy results and got a call 9:00 am the day before my appointment that due to inclement weather South Bay OBGYN will be closed today and the following day. I completely understand closing for inclement weather but my appointment was for 28 hours later and it didn't even snow a lot. HOWEVER knowing they always close, I tried being proactive a few days before and asked if I can have my results since they will most likely cancel my appointment. The nurse said they have the results but can't give them to me. SO NOW I have to wait another week for my results. It's unfortunate that I am going through something unsettling and they are making this a complete nightmare. I've been coming here for 15 years and I'm DONE with this place!!! read more

I have a history of gynecological issues... and i am a patient for 10 years. However, this place has just gone downhill over the past two years. Last year I had the office call me telling me i needed to have surgery... but my dr wasn't there to speak to me until the following week... i called today with a concern and to see if i could come in they said well we are only open until 1 on Friday and Saturday there is only one dr who is double booked. If I could give this practice negative stars, I would. Between losing medical paperwork, wrongful billing, the inability to complete a routine test correctly and then refusing medication to a patient because of insurance change. I was told that my inability to get a sooner appointment elsewhere was "my problem" and not theirs leaving me without medication for a month ABSOLUTE DISGRACE. I have been going to South Bay OBGYN for about 30 years and have seen a tremendous decline there. Very sad. I tried one last time with a new doctor - Dr. Jurak, but her assistant that evening, Suzanne put an end to that immediately. I had a late evening appt. with Dr. Jurak and Suzanne was in such a huge rush that she wouldn't listen to a word I was saying and therefore made an error. At one point I actually had to ask her to speak a little slower to me because I could not understand what she was saying. Her answer was "I feel the same way about you." ??? I was stunned. My daughter had the same experience at her very first OBGYN appt. She was already anxious about her first visit with a gynecologist and Suzanne made it so much worse for her. She told me she would never go back. There is not an ounce of concern, care, gentleness or even just anyone to simply listen to what you are coming in for when you go now. Changing immediately. Horrible place.. I have been coming here for 2 years and every time I wait no less than an hour just to get into a room. The another hour in the room. Today I made an 8:10am appt of which I showed up on time for. The staff did their check in at 8:11 and then when I asked how much longer I'd have to wait to see the dr (cause it was 30 minutes) they told me I was late to the appt. They never call you with your test results so you have to call them and beg to get them. I am done here. New insurance come January so I will be finding a new place. read more

I have been going to Southbay OB/GYN for more than 10 years. I love the practice and would not go anywhere else I've had several emergency surgeries with different doctors in the practice and they all have been amazing. Yes the wait in the office is a bit long but for skilled doctor that you see, it's worth the wait. I have had several GYN issues over the past few years and have only gotten great answers and the best results from the practice. So if you are looking for a GYNECOLOGIST please come to this one. read more

I was a patient here for 16 years, but they don't take state insurances like Family Health Plus even though they take the private versions of the same plans. So essentially, they only want a certain kind of client. Aside from that, the waits are *super* long, and once you are done having babies, quality of care seems to slide a little. I never really got to know another ob/gyn because I'd gone here from the age of 15 on, but I have since had better experiences and would not go back if my insurance changed. Also, some of the desk staff can be very dismissive and not very on top of things. When I was pregnant, I once waited three hours (after checking in) only to be told that I didn't have an appointment and to come back. My sister left mid-pregnancy for a similar administrative screw-up that was very inconvenient to her and of course, no apology was offered. As a member for 4 years, Amy is correct that it is very busy! Ive only seen 2 doctors, Dr Judge, (AMAZING) and Dr. Lockhart (Equally amazing) but because they are so popular, you do end up talking to the assistants more than the actual doctor, especially with Dr. Lockhart. I switched because I moved, but if you are in the area, definitely ask to see Dr. Judge!! I have yet to find a Dr. that is as friendly, funny, nice and a pleasure to be around (even during a pap) read more

Once you show up on time for your appointment and wait a minimum of an hour an a half, you're then seen by your doctor who is (Dr. Lockhart) is as sweet as pie.. once your appointment is over dont dare try to call for lab results or talk to someone other than the girls who make appointments. They've always been awesome but, I just got a call from dr Lockhart's 'assistant' who continuously cut me off when I told her I spoke to someone yesterday that said my lab results were out of range so I am questioning why she is saying they are in range today.. and I have an appointment today to come in. Instead of saying 'ok hold on let me see what happened' I get a nasty response 'I dont know who you talked to ma'am but it wasn't us, we didn't call you'.. ok, so I'm crazy.. so I asked if it could have been anyone else and again with the attitude says 'no, do you need a manager or something because this is the first time we've called' ... In shock, I said 'No, I am not asking for a manager, I'm just trying to have a conversation and you're giving me an attitude and cutting me off and I'm not sure why' Now I am put on hold and the manager, who obviously didn't want to be bothered speaking to me, comes on the line. I explained that I spoke to someone yesterday after receiving an automated call that my labs were back and made an appointment for today and now I was told they are fine and I was once again (surprised?) cut off and told 'we dont do automated messages'.. I said 'ok, but I called the number back and it went right to your desk and I made the appointment its not like I called a random number.. I even spoke to her for a few minutes because my concern was that I had endometrial cancer'... this wench actually says to me 'uh huh I will check with corporate because sometimes they make changes and dont tell us but I doubt they'd start automated calls and not tell us'.. ok so you're calling me a liar? Ive never in my life heard of an 'office manager' talking to a patient like this!! I guess this is why the medical assistants think its ok!! So now, the nasty assistant come back.. and has the audacity to say 'Yes ma'am so you're tests were normal so no-one is calling to tell you you have cancer (in a condescending, you can tell shes rolling her eyes manner) so we just need to make a follow up appointment.' I have been dealing with non stop GYN issues and endometrial cancer was one of the reasons my issues could have been happening. Who the hell speaks to someone like this that says 'Thank god, I thought I had cancer' then goes tells the other girls what I said who in turn once again response with attitude?!? I only come here because of my insurance. I will be running away once that changes. I have worked for numerous dr offices/Gynecologists and I have never heard of an office being so nasty. Or a manager of any type of facility being so rude for that matter. They have an attitude in the office too, so dont think its any different.. its just worse over the phone. I could write a book about the in office encounters as well. Also, this is the SECOND time I have gotten an attitude from this assistant.... after the first time I had seen Dr Lockhart I had called and left THREE messages for test results (which by the way, were done for this same issue) and she called me back after my third message and says: 'I am returning your numerous messages, your tests were fine of course, we dont call back if labs come back within range. If I have nothing to tell you I wont call you' Oh, I am so sorry to have bothered you to ask you give me a call back. I needed to know they were normal because if they were, I had to make an appointment with another type of doctor, Jacka$$$$$$$.... I cant. I really cant. Dont go here. read more

I've never had a problem here up until now. I took an ultra sound THREE WEEKS AGO. I was told I would be called back either that day or the next. Again this is three weeks later, I've called and left messaged easily ten times.. that isn't an exaggeration. Atmosphere- large waiting room with TVs and toys. Staff- mostly friendly but sometimes feel rushed by the business staff. The nurses are great. Since it is a large practice, you can often get a next day appointment of you are willing to see anyone. I absolutely hate the telephone system as it is difficult to actually speak to someone about your concerns. However, Dr. Lester and her assistant are extremely responsive and typically return messages within 1 business day. Moreover, Dr. Lester is an amazingly compassionate and professional healthcare provider. She is the reason I kept this office after moving. Overall, feels kind of like a vagina mill that is more focused on getting people in and out. However, find the right doctor and you won't get that sense at all. read more

The facility is deceiving, and the amount of names on the card would lead one to suspect personalized attention, which is very hard to come by. I decided to switch OBGYN, and on my first visit, I saw the MD. for about 10 minutes at most, I don't think she even introduced herself. All other blood work, etc was done by MAs. I received no word on my test results, and had to call the receptionist many times leaving messages to speak to the MD., she never returned my calls and I ended up getting my results from the receptionist herself. Really not for me, I am planning on switching if things continue next appt but for many reasons I would not recommend. 1-it is like a factory style, and you are just a number 2-the front desk staff is rude 3-if you have to call them, whoever you get on the phone is rude:billing-extremely rude, front desk-rude 4-when you talk to someone there(does not matter how polite) you are RUINING their day-ex. The evil nurse as I call her 5-none of the MANY doctors I've seen know anything that is going on with me when I see them I have to explain what happened at my last appt-no one seems to know 6-as you can see it is super impersonal After listing these out I feel I may just switch before my next appt thinking of my experiences thus far/it's really been like that for me and I'm pregnant, when I go there it is usually the happiest time of my day but it is ruined with rudeness at almost every appt I once had a nurse be so rude to me in front of one of the doctors! And nothing! Luckily there is this one really great nurse I've come across and she had distracted me before I went completely off on this woman. Long wait times & unprofessional doctors. Went to a dr in the office for a check up & for a renewal of my prescription. She said "it'll be no problem to put this in for you" and it was never sent to my pharmacist. Once I realized I was out I called and the doctor now claims she's "uncomfortable refilling my prescription" don't understand why she would say it's no problem-I went a month ago so I wouldn't be without medication and now I am. Called them about 4 times today and no word on if I'm ever getting a refill. Awesome. read more

This place is horrible. There is no one to greet you, you have to sign yourself in and no one acknowledges you. Then you sit and wait and wait and wait. South Bay gets a bad wrap. It's unfortunate too, because their doctors and surgeons (especially Jurek) are incredibly skilled and I feel very lucky to have her as my doctor. There are a few things that the practice struggles with, like wait times, some of the nurses are curt with no bedside manner, but overall I am willing to look past that for the intelligence, and experience of the doctors in this practice. People say it has gone down hill, and I don't believe that. I think since they became Stony Brook it's actually gotten better. A few hints to make your visits better: Schedule your appointment the earliest in the morning you can. They tend to back up throughout the day. Don't be offended if the nurses or doctors are short and to the point, everyone is doing a job, and sometimes the appointment moves quickly. Ammirata and Lockhardt seemed to have a more gentle bedside manner. I still prefer this practice to other one or two doctor practices in the area that I have interviewed or gone to. While pregnant you will see a minimum of 4 doctors throughout your pregnancy, because their is no telling who will be on in the delivery room unless you have a scheduled C, so you get to meet all of them. None of the doctors I've met are alarmists, but are thorough and watching for everything. This is my most honest assessment, of the treatment I have received at South Bay for the past 10 years, and one baby being delivered. When I have another baby, I will 100% come back here, as I do for my yearly exams. I'll wait an few extra hours in the grand scheme of things because the care you receive takes precedence. read more

Since COVID Dr Judge retired and my experience with Dr. Lockhart being the on call doctor confirmed why I should switch to a new OBGYN. I had originally wanted to leave because the long wait times and when I had called to reschedule an appt the phone just rang and rang and eventually hours and many attempts and 5-10 min hold times later I just canceled my appt. if you bring up this practice most people do not have a positive experience, I only stayed this long because of how amazing Dr. Judge was. read more

Do not use this place for your ob/gyn needs. I have been coming here for year and once Dr. Lester retired this place has gone to pot. Had an appointment for 1:20. I arrived early and checked in. An hour and a half later I'm still sitting in my car waiting to be seen. The staff is beyond rude and condescending. These people should not be in the healthcare field. I will never come back here. I am on my third gyno here. The first injured my aunt during a procedure. I'm not sure how she is still working there. The second was so rude to me. My appointment was at 7:30 one night and they didn't let me in until 9 pm and my doctor was so short with me and arrogant. She gave me one worded answers to questions i had and was so quick to leave the room. My third Doctor i love but i will NOT be coming back here. As many have said the receptionists are AWFUL. They give you wrong information and no matter who you talk to, they are still giving out misinformation or giving you different answers. I was waiting for my birth control for over three months because according to some receptionists, "insurance had to approve" however that was not the case. I had to wait because they wait for a certain amount of people to need the implant before they could make an order. Three months later my implant finally came in and the receptionist told me to call to make an appointment once it's my time of the month. I called to make an appointment a few days later and another receptionist told me I'd have to wait another month because they can't squeeze me in. I argued that both my doctor and another receptionist told me i can come in once i get my period. They put me down to come in and i heard the receptionists in the background literally talking shit about me being "impatient" and some people having to wait another month if they do not have the time. Mind you, this implant took a total of 3 minutes to insert. Now that i got my implant, i most definitely will not be returning to this office. read more

When I called last week to make an appointment a very nice receptionist helped make an appointment. She was extremely calm & patient trying to help me with my insurance. I was able to make an appointment for the following week at a convenient time. I received a confirmation call for my appointment which was today at 4:20. When I got to my appointment at around 4:10 (traffic) the receptionist told me my appointment was at 1:20! What!! But they were still able to see me. I had new insurance so I had to fill out a bunch of papers and the billing person made copies of my cards and reviewed my forms which took awhile. I was then called in about 10 minutes later; a lovely assistant went over my medical history and then I saw Dr. Hernandez for the exam. She is the sweetest, most compassionate Doctor! Dr. Hernandez makes her patients feel comfortable and not worry. She is very personable and asks about your personal life which distracts you from the awkwardness of the exam! I can not say enough good things about Dr. Hernandez! Make an appointment with her if you are going to come to this office! read more

I would give them no stars if I could. Unless you have a whole day to spend in this office, book an appointment. The minimum wait is approximately 1-1/2 hours in the waiting room then another 45 minutes-1 hour in the examining room. The scheduling people should be fired or take a math class to learn how to schedule time slots accurately. My two girls were patients, as well as their girlfriends, but not anymore. Honestly, we would make a 7:30 in the morning appt and hope for the best! Whoever owns this practice should be ashamed of themselves. Do they really think that we have nothing else to do but wait hours to see a doctor? Even though they loved Dr. Lockhart, I would never never recommend this practice to anyone. We go to a wonderful doctor and the wait is less than 15 minutes. Don't waste your time here-it is not worth the wait and aggravation. I should have realized that when a woman handed me the remote control for the tv and said "good luck to you & watch a few shows." Isn't that ridiculous to have to take a full day off work to go to the gynecologist! read more
