This is a bit overdue as we got married in January (Pre-covid). We used Jim and Joanna as our DJ and videographer and thought both did an amazing job! I'm not exaggerating when I say that our dance floor was non-stop action all night long. Everyone raved about the music and had such a great time dancing the night away! The video we received perfectly showcased how amazing of a day/night it was! When we watch it, we are right back in Key West, with our friends and family and without a care in the world. I'm so glad that we ended up choosing to have video involved, because we were definitely on a budget. Jim and Joanna were also able to help provide me with a speaker and mic for our welcome dinner the evening before and dropped off and picked up the equipment to make it as easy as possible. We found SoundWave through our photographer Senses at Play. They have all partnered together (so smart) and we found them to be the most affordable of all of the options in Key West. It was the main reason we ended up choosing them ($1000 deposit secured us a DJ, Videographer and photographer all in one). We used Soundwave's Videography services and Joanna was great. She was very professional and offered a great service for our destination wedding that included just me and my wife. She was very responsive to messages and had no troubles speaking with us when we had questions. Since we are from NY we never met her until our wedding day however we were very comfortable with her from conversations. She was prompt on our wedding day which was 8 AM and had great ideas for our video. We were excited to get our video back for our upcoming NY wedding reception in November. After a few days we received a few teaser photos from the event that we really loved. About two-(2) weeks after our wedding we received a one-(1) minute shareable highlight video that we loved and later that night we received our wedding video. That night we watched the video and we couldn't believe how great it came out. My wife was in happy tears watching the video. We were so glad that we used Joanna for our BIG day. We hired Jimmy for our wedding. When we met him, we thought it would be a good fit for us and he came highly recommended from friends. Unfortunately due to medical issues, we had to rebook our wedding for a date that was 10 months later. We were told that all of our vendors were available for our new date. When we arrived in Key West several days before our wedding, we were told that Jimmy had another event. Another DJ - who we did not hire or meet - was to take his place. The new DJ announced our parents incorrectly - he announced the grooms parents name as the brides parents and vice versa. We had made music choices for the introductions, one of which was incorrect. His music was old - from the 90s and early 2000s. Some new music was played only after I requested it. read more

Best DJ ever! He was always on it, attentive and makes sure everything is going right. As a bride, you don't have to worry with DJ Jimmy. He also has an awesome questionnaire and makes your event playlist perfect. It was better than my husband and I imagined. I don't dance, but his DJ skills got even me on the dance floor. He reads the crowd and plays what gets the most reactions. He takes requests and listens. He is observant, fun, amazing and made our wedding day so easy. NO REFUND AFTER TERMINAL CANCER DIAGNOSIS - We booked this guy for my sister's wedding scheduled for October 2023 in Key West. My family lives in Mississippi. We signed the contract, which is clear there are no refunds on deposits. Understood. However, we found out shortly after booking that my father had terminal lung cancer and were advised to have the wedding as soon as possible and closer to home for obvious reasons.Less than 6 weeks after entering the agreement AND 8 MONTHS from the event, we notified all vendors (resort venue, makeup/hair, florist, and photographer). Every single one of those vendors were so understanding of the situation and gladly refunded the deposits EXCEPT Jim Cooper of Soundwave. They were all told the situation we were in and how devastated our family was. He did offer a credit. No thanks. Zero humanity or grace. But hey, policy is policy; even when you're talking to the owner of the company who makes the policy. read more

We had SoundWave for our wedding reception- super happy with choosing them! DJ Sanaris is so funny, friendly, and amazing. We emailed our first dance song that was a special mix from our ballroom dance instructor so he can play it for our first dance. That went smoothly. Our wedding guests loved him. They had requests which he played for them with no issue unlike prior DJs from parties we had attended. He kept the energy going and kept the dance floor full. People who aren't into dancing were on the floor! As a side note I had him (last minute) play an instrumental version of a song I sang for my husband as a surprise and he was able to do so with ease by streaming from his phone :) Our guests loved DJ Sanaris. I had actually booked another DJ for our wedding reception but for some reason I felt the need to keep searching on-line and kept going back to DJ Jimmy's website. I started this wedding process thinking I knew everything and that it would be easy to pick the best vendors and as I got closer to our wedding date I started to realize just how important it is to find likeminded people who share your vision, personality style and want to make you happy. 2 weeks before our wedding I cancelled our contract with our original DJ and crossed my fingers that DJ Jimmy would have the date available and be able to take our wedding on. Well... the odds were in our favor and with it being a holiday weekend, we were able to sign a contract and plan everything from the unique wedding party intros to exactly what I wanted and needed for dinner and dancing music so quickly. I had provided him with a list of songs to play during dinner and heard all of our requests played even the local hits from Hawaii where Jef & I met and fell in love! I had already hired his sister-n-law and wife a year earlier to be our photographer and videographer and have to say that the flow of the photos, video and music was seamless!! Check out their family affair package! Jimmy was spot on and kept the energy up for our reception and kept our guests on the dance floor which is very hard with the majority of our wedding guests having 2 left feet! We all danced the night away and I couldn't of been happier with my last minute change and the professionalism and energy of DJ Jimmy with Soundwave!! Jim and Joanna are incredible! We had a DJ/video combination and cannot say enough how happy we were with their work. Jim (the DJ) kept everybody dancing and was a great emcee! I had several of my friends tell me they were sore the next day because they didn't come off the dance floor! Joanna (the videographer) was just as good -- we recently got our full wedding video and could not have been happier with it -- cried, laughed and everything in-between. This review is long overdue for how satisfied we were with SoundWave! We got married 9 months ago and are still so pleased when we think back to the fun and entertaining atmosphere Jimmy set up for our guests. My husband was not thrilled about having the attention focused on him during our wedding and Jimmy took that into consideration. He reassured my husband beforehand, that at any point he could signal to Jimmy that he was done with the first dance, cake cutting, etc. Not once did my husband feel the need to do that because Jimmy was able to time things perfectly so they were never awkwardly long and uncomfortable for my husband. Great company to work with. I got married at Fort Zach beach in June and James was our DJ. He took care of the ceremony, cocktail hour, and the reception with out any problems. Weather that day was unpredictable but he was prepared. It was a very busy day and it was nice to know that we didn't have to worry about the DJ. We were disappointed with the DJ. We selected Jimmy V because everyone said he was the best DJ on the island. Everyone has bad days and I am thinking maybe we got him on a bad day. Here are the reasons we were disappointed: 1. I never saw him or met him...he never introduced himself or interacted with the bride and groom. 2. The groomsmen tried to request songs and all said he was very rude. In fact, he told one of the groomsmen that he would only communicate with the wedding planner and that they should not be coming to ask him for song requests. I should let you know that we only had two groomsmen in the wedding party so how bothersome could two people really be? 3. We sent Soundwave a list of songs we wanted to be played. I did not hear many of the songs I was really hoping for. 4. He was not reading the crowd at all and several times his choice of music seemed to kill the vibe. 5. We could not hear the speeches b/c the volume was so low. After we sent the planner over to have him turn up the volume, the volume was no longer an issue. I would have expected him to conduct a sound check before the reception started to get that right. Of all the vendors I selected for my destination wedding, the DJ was the only thing I would have changed. I think we could have done better with an ipod and speakers. We tipped him $50 but I only did that because I felt bad tipping $0. read more

While researching DJ's, Sound Waves was mentioned. I inquired about the services and costs. I asked if they would be willing to play the music I requested and that only. I asked respectfully and just explained that sometimes at weddings there is music you really dont like and I wanted to make sure that they would stick to the playlist and just wanted a little reassurance. Well to my suprise I got an email back with quote....below I noticed a thread from Jim insulting me and saying I was high maintenance. When confronted, Jim said, sorry, that was meant to be internal and we have had bad experiances with people that want to pick there own music. Thought other brides would like to know there attitude behind closed doors. No one wants to worry that the DJ is snickering about you during your wedding. I found it unbelievably rude, unprofessional and hurtful. There are many other options in the area and I hope others will look elsewhere as well. I would have left a review on the wedding boards but you must have a contract to do so. read more
