LOVE this class! It's the bessst when you are sweating like a mofo from twerking (can i get a…read morehaayy)! The class is taught Zumba style (follow the leader) and you go through about 5-10 different recent, fun songs that you'll actually recognize so you can bust out the moves at da club. There is no official water break so you're just dancing the entire time. Half way through, we do an ab sequence and it is brutal to get through a plank after you've just danced your booty off for a half hour before. No technical experience needed, but I think you'll get a lot more out of the class if you can stay on beat & follow steps well. Some of the songs are more straight twerking, others are more technical hip hop. You can wear street clothes (kicks/sweats) or workout clothes, anything you can move in! The studio is a community studio, so don't expect anything fancy but its large!

This workout truly is a full body, booty shaking, sweat dripping TWERK out class. Danielle makes this class so much fun with her music selection-I especially appreciate her throwback hiphop, dance hall and of course Queen Bey's tracks. She does a "follow the leader" type of instructing so she makes it easy to follow along. She is so helpful and very motivating! I love the set up of the studio- she keeps it dim, cool and lit up with colored LED lights. I bought these passes from a Groupon deal but I am thinking I will renew once my classes run out. I need some more gainz for da club.

We started with warm ups, then across the floors, and then into a fun combo. I liked that the class was an hour and a half, because it really gave us time to do everything and didn't feel rushed. I registered online (about 25 dollars per class) and headed over to the studio about 15 minutes for my class. While it's a bit nerve wracking walking into a studio for the first time, especially after not being in one for over a decade, the staff was so helpful and welcoming. The young woman at the front desk helped me check in and directed me to the studio. She gave me a heads up that another class was wrapping up and to hang out on the side and take a seat until my class started. Noelle's class was fantastic! She created such an inclusive and welcoming space. She encouraged making adjustments in the warmups and choreography to fit your abilities and comfort. The class started with stretches, then some across the floor warm ups, then learning the number and ended with an optional cool down. There was a nice mix of abilities throughout the class. The space is large and clean with room to leave your personal belongings in eyesight. Will definitely be doing this again soon!

The Performance Garage is on an otherwise empty block of Brandywine in the Art Museum Area. I arrived just before show time and it wasn't hard to find due to the thrown open doors and people milling about. You check in at a front desk (one person taking names for admission and another selling drink and food tickets (2 for $3 or 5 for $5). It was a bit hectic and crowded, but they made sure everyone got through and checked in before show time. The stage was close to the seats, and no matter where you sat at this theater you got a good view of the elevated stage. The acoustics were not spectacular, which forced the performers to use microphones. I understand this is largely a dance theater, so normally the acoustics issue wouldn't be as much of a problem. I liked the intimacy of the theater--the inexpensive nature of the food and drinks sold (one ticket for popcorn and soda, two for beers), and would definitely come back to see another show here. Review of Always Coming Soon: The Future I tried and tried to find a review of this play/musical online, but had no luck whatsoever. I saw that it was performed in a couple of different cities, but I could only find the show descriptor, no doubt provided by the playwright/composer. The description was incredibly cryptic and I had no idea what to expect at this show. The performance began once you walked past the lobby into the "garage." You were directed through a hallway with a zombie yelling things through a megaphone. Then you were deposited where more zombies were selling the refreshments, including fresh air (the first clue that the performance was taking place in some future dystopic society). I'm not totally sure that I followed the plot after that (perhaps others had this issue as well, hence no reviews). It takes place some time after 2022 after a huge world war that resulted in some people, but not all, becoming zombies. I would say that It was possibly commentary on our society's commercialism, genetic modification, Monsanto, belief in god (or the government) to do what is right for us without, environmental neglect, or obsession with focusing on the present and not thinking about the future. As a whole, for me, there were too many criticisms, with little focus on each, so you really only got "big picture" commentary. I would characterize the show as more of a performance than a play or musical. The actors did great work--the show required a lot of hamming it up to the audience--both physically and verbally, which requires a lot of talent and the performers did a spectacular job. It was an unusual experience, but I am glad I went and would be down to see another BRAT Productions show in the future.

I was never a dancer as a child but always wanted to be. I've taken multiple classes here and have loved them all. Went for Zumba with Jamie Wednesday, checked out their new studio, and had a great time! The studio is on the 2nd floor of nest (entrance on 13th street, not locust like the address says). Jamie was awesome and the class was a good workout, but 50 minutes felt so short! Also, the vibe of the class was a little womp womp, not as fun/exciting as other fitness classes I've been to, maybe because it's new and people are still getting to know each other. Hopefully that'll change. Also, right now it's carpeted and looks like a little kids play gym (which it is) but if there's interest, they'll put in hardwood floors and make it more legit. This is not a pretentious, super intense place. This class is definitely fine for people new to Zumba, but will still be a good workout for others. Having gone to Koresh a few days before, I will say that this place is more fitness than dance. The routines are simple, with more emphasis on workout than performance. As far as difficulty, I'd rank Jamie's class as slightly easier than the cardio classes I've taken at Thrive, but on par with Sweat (actually, Timaree teaches at Sweat and here and I love her!), the Sporting Club at the Bellevue, and 12th street gym (like I said, can't commit). $10 dropin is SUPER reasonable, and their class cards are only $40 for 5 and $70 for 10 and you can go to all their locations. Definitely great for people who like to mix it up! $5 off coupon if you sign up for their emails (so, $5 class!) Recommend checking them out! This location will only stay if there's interest.

I haven't been able to find a teacher like this either in New York or Boston where I spend my time now. Oh, and they also offer a multitude of messages, which I hope to be testing out soon! This studio is beyond compare! I've taken dance classes since I was three years old (at prestigious schools such as Point Park), and the belly dance classes I have taken here rival any and all in my experience. The instructors level of professionalism and knowledge is amazing, but what I like best is the "comfort" level. Classes are filled with beginners through experienced and professional dancers. I'm intermediate level, but am not deterred by the experienced or beginner dancers. I won't analyze it, I'm just going to say that it works! As for the atmosphere, cozy comes to mind. There are mirrors everywhere (like a real ballet studio), which are essential for gaging body position. Another great aspect is the price: $12 per class; $10 per class (10 class minimum); $9 per class (20 class minimum). You can't beat those prices anywhere!!! One great perk is that, if you buy 10 classes, you can use those however you want. For example, take 3 belly dance classes, 2 yoga classes, 2 pilates classes, and 3 fitness classes (or some other combo). And, if you miss a class, you don't have to pay for it. It really is the best deal around!

Now I'm a total ballet addict, and it's all thanks to Beverly, the studio's owner and ballet teacher. Beverly does a wonderful job welcoming newcomers to the studio and making ballet accessible to those who haven't done it in years or have never tried it before. At the same time she manages to challenge her regulars. Classes are drop-in but she spends each month or two working on developing specific skills through drills and short choreography sequences. Every class is a little different. I constantly feel challenged, and I feel like my dancing is always improving. In addition to the regular ballet classes there is also BalletEXTREME, a high-intensity ballet fitness class, and small group pre-pointe lessons. Some women in the pointe class used to do pointe when they were younger and are returning to it years later. Many, like me, had never done it before (and probably thought they would never get the chance, like I did). If you ever wanted to try pointe I highly recommend these classes. Ballet isn't the only option at Major Moment. I took a ballet class offered through PDF with Beverly (Beverly is the owner of Major Moment) this past Monday, and WOW! I had taken a few classes at Koresh to try to get myself back into the ballet game, but it was way too intense for me, a lowly "use to be a ballet dancer in high school". This class offered by Beverly was great - she went through the basics including the positions, tendus, degages, ronde de jambes, etc, with some barre work, then we moved to the center for the last half hour of class. I can't stress enough how amazing this class was - it seemed that most people around the room who were doing pretty well, and I know there were some beginners in the class. Beverly has a great personality, with absolutely no attitude - she is simply interested in furthering people's interest in dance while having fun! An added bonus - even though the class seemed slightly easy at the time, I woke up the next day feeling absolutely sore! It was an awesome feeling :) I can't wait to take another class with Beverly!
