We started to try out some guitars and we were subsequently and rudely asked to stop "because you cannot come here to jam." I'm not sure how else one finds the guitar they're looking for other than to play them. But this store apparently doesn't want you to do that. Our first adventure in the city…read more We obviously wanted to find a shop where we can also eat since we didn't know how the munchies would hit. This was the closest to us while we were at an outdoor market. I think the walk was less than 5 mins. Right off the bat, the vibe was it. It's in a considerably quieter area as the other side had way more foot traffic. We were greeted by two guys when we walked in. They had a pretty nice collection. We each got a gram, borrowed a grinder and planted ourselves at the table right by the window so we could people watch. When I tell you, what we got ended up getting me high high. My Asian eyes disappeared. I kept losing my train of thought then the munchies kicked in. I got the strawberry/banana shake and shrimp noodz. There was a bit of confusion with the menu. We didn't realize we were getting noodles. Much to our surprise l, it was cup of noodles. As a whole, everything was great. Service was good and the herbs were nice but I took one star away because of the noodz. It's like they didn't even want to try. Cigaragua was suggested by a knowledgeable local and reinforced by some reviews I found online. The place is on a main street and easy to find. It is spread out on three levels, with the retail space at ground level, the humidor up one and the lounge down one. The space was clean and inviting, with the lounge being large and well presented. The humidor was extensive, but with a specialization in Nicaraguan-grown smokes. The prices were very fair, especially considering the shop is in a very touristy area of Amsterdam. The employee manning the place was friendly and greeted me as soon as I walked in. He worked with me in the humidor to select a number of cigars that were right for my palate, but not familiar to me. While sitting in the lounge smoking one of my cigars, I enjoyed a glass of wine and a glass of port. It appears they serve a very basic selection of wine, beer, coffee and non-alcoholic drinks. If you are ever in Amsterdam and in need of a cigar and a place to smoke it, you can do no better than Cigaragua. Highly recommend.

We were not offered a seniors discount. The pipe I found on the website that interested me was no longer in stock . My family and I toured this magnificent (single-owner!) collection and thoroughly enjoyed the walk through history it represented, all housed in a historical home. Ben was our guide, and his narration and answers to our questions brought the assortment to life. Funerary, wedding, ceremonial, personal pipes and accoutrements are arranged by era and provenance, from clay and briar and meerschaum to less standard materials, and even a display related to opium. The place is tidily packed into a second floor and took no more than about half an hour to review - but the rarity of the items, the uniqueness of a collection like this in one place, and the personal nature of the tour made it entirely worthwhile and memorable. Highly recommended.
