They've got a tiny section upfront for anime related merchandise too, and a small selection of snacks like Ramune and Pocky. The layout is quite simple to figure out, with the merchandise being put on display all over the walls near their respective aisles. Plus, it's size is just a good place to wander around to see if you can find a CD or even a record disc of any bands you listen to. Also they have a few choices for budget earbuds, which are really good in quality considering their prices float around five to fifteen quid. Great for me when I still used wired earbuds since mine would end up breaking often.

It's almost impossible to get a magazine unless you want to fight your way through and as for the rest of the items on the ground floor which mostly comprise of stationery and cards it is all quite uninspiring somehow. Upstairs is a little better as this is where they have the books and DVDs and it is better organised and more room to move about. Again though there is something lack lustre about the shop. I would rather do my shopping elsewhere.

It's in a gorgeous timber framed building, with lots of books downstairs, and arts and crafts in a couple of rooms upstairs. The downstairs includes a children's area complete with a rocking horse for kids to play on. Upstairs is worth visiting to see the character full rooms, but you also get a nicely chosen range of art materials, plus some finished work for sale. Staff are lovely too. I last visited on a sunny day and they had the door and upstairs windows thrown open, letting in the light and breezes. Lovely.

They always try and sell you something extra like chocolate at the till.

Prices are still reasonable, but product selections low with only the more popular of each range being available to the consumerStationary however is still a good bet as there are limited alternate options within Newbury. There is a good Newsagents range with many magazines available, and a subscription service available if your so inclined. The store itself has had some refurbishment also with Disabled access and automatic doors being introduced.

There's also lots going on - with special events, author signings and talks - and it's worth keeping an eye on their newsletter to keep up-to-date. It's a much warmer atmosphere than a chain bookstore, and you can get a decent cup of coffee/ tea and a slice of cake too - there's a little patio at the back where you can sit outside if the weather is nice.

When talking with them, I got the impression that opening a bookshop like this was a life dream, and the fact that they enjoy what they do shines through. One real plus point to this little shop is their great range of 'book mugs' - mugs with the titles of Penguin Classic books on them. I've not seen them elsewhere in Abingdon, and they make great gifts. An antidote to the big chain bookstores like Waterstones, and a pleasant place to browse and buy.
