After one trial workout at Motion Fitness--a brand new fitness center in the 'toks -I cancelled my…read moremembership at GoodLife, Canyon Meadows. And it was a pretty easy decision . . .
The Motion Fitness Rundown:
This place hasn't been open very long, having been built from the ground up only recently. Hence, all the equipment is new, premium, state of the art. And TONS of cardio machines - each one of them with its own TV screen. Not to mention, iPhone/iPod integration for your own media playback, and/or Nike+ updates.
The gym overall is spotless. Including the locker room. Even in the evenings. Which is a huge contrast to my previous gym, where paper towels were overflowing the bins onto the floor, and disinfectant spray bottles/paper towel dispensers sat empty after 8PM.
Oh, and people actually bother to spray down the equipment after using it at Motion. Amazing how gym-culture varies from one club to another.
Anyhow, even though I go later in the evening, I still see the staff making protein shakes for clientele (seated around the large wraparound bar). I appreciate that you still receive great service, despite needing a later workout time. They even have an internet kiosk.
Otherwise, the things I hate about gym-chains are a non-issue at Motion Fitness:
One: you don't need to sign a contract. There is a 12 visit punch card option, which never expires, so you pay for visits only. As someone who has a lot of fitness equipment at home, this option works best for me. I don't pay for NOT using the gym. (Motion also has month to month plans; and yes, contracts for lower rates, if that's your choice).
Second: you can pay by Visa. Which is a nice option, because it doesn't force you to turn over your checking account and routing numbers to someone, giving them WAY too much access to your personal finances. (Hello, GoodLife, and your ONLY payment option).
My only "let's wait and see" concern might be the physical size of the gym, if it proves to be a big hit in the community. Is it large enough to handle demand?
All in, it's everything I've been looking for. More really. I don't need child care, and I don't do group classes... but they have that covered for those who do. Nicely done.
