This public berrating and shaming went on for a solid 25 minutes. No wonder he didn't want to show up and skipped. I wouldn't either. I initially thought that maybe it was an isolated incident and that this "one kid" really pushed her buttons, which happens to the best and most patient. I was there for an interview as a homework tutor as a part time gig while taking university classes. During the "interview test", I asked five students and two homework tutors about the work environment. Nobody had a single good thing to say about Maggie. Not even the homework tutors, much less the students. All I got were repetitive "you'll see if you decide to stay" conclusive statements from the students. During the interview test I helped the first child because she was extremely sweet and I liked her despite me not wanting the job anymore. Then I was sent a second student an hour later. On the second one I pretended to not know how to help her with her homework so I could get out faster and she could move on to another tutor. They all told me about constant verbal abuse (which I witnessed) and moments where she'd throw objects at students such as highlighters (not witnessed but pretty believable). I asked how come parents had nothing to say about this kind of abuse. They told me that the parents never really step into the center. They don't even talk to the tutors. Not somewhere I'd work much less ever send my future kids at. The homework tutors are pretty nice and seem knowledgeable though. Normally I'd never "talk crap" about a job opportunity turning sour but I care tremendously about children and that was not a good environment and I firmly believe parents should be aware of what's going on.

She was patient and addressed all of the questions that I had. More importantly, she didn't skim on making sure that I knew how to apply what she had taught me -- she made sure I tried my own hand several times and went over whatever I struggled on. Only hindrance was the locale in which the lesson took place, which was relatively hot -- and may affect one's ability to focus for an extended time.
