CLC is an excellent language school that I want to return to! Montreal is so close to Vermont where…read moreI live. It's the obvious locale for studying French, but which school? I highly recommend CLC. Every CLC instructor I had was dynamic, expert at teaching, kind, full of humor, and very attentive to each student. I was stunned by the specificity of the feedback they provided about my progress. And I did progress. I can only imagine if I'd been able to stay two months instead of two weeks. My classmates' French seemed at a compatible level with mine, and we quite naturally supported each other. Our teachers' guidance got us sharing from the heart about our lives and world views, all in the language we were learning. I already miss my new friends. I took the Intensive 25. Starting at 10 a.m., I had three 45-minute classes, each with a different teacher. They were energetic, tuned in to everything and everyone, and never boring. When the 2nd or 3rd teacher of the day came in, they would often pick up on what we'd been working on with the previous teacher. This is a superb level or organization and internal communication. Three afternoons per week, I had a 1-hour private lesson. The Intensive 25 includes fun afternoon activities. I attended French Tea Time to practice my French (with yummy donated tea from David's) and had fun at English Tea Time, too, helping English learners practice. The Intensive 25 is the program I would take again. I will most likely continue my studies with a CLC video class, too. I want to build on the gains I made here!

In addition to offering language courses it also…read moreoffers the community language practice sessions and hosts monthly Festive Fridays which are open to everyone. I never took a class here but I have been to multiple Festive Fridays and practice sessions so I will cover that in this review. The concept behind their language practice sessions, or "Tea Time" as they call it is simple. You can either pay $2 or contribute a box of cookies to be enjoyed while you sit around with the others and practice a language in a casual and relaxed setting. They offer Tea Times in English, French, Japanese and Spanish. For a while I was a regular at French Tea Time because I found it helpful. They always had volunteers on hand who spoke the language either as their mother tongue or fluently so you always had experienced people to practice with. I even volunteered at the English tea time to help others work on their English. In fact the only reason I stopped going was because I ended up getting a new job and my work schedule didn't mesh well with the Tea Time schedule. That is the one downside to this program. It runs from 4 to 6 so if you work a 9 to 5 job you can't make it. Once a month the school also hosts Festive Fridays. These are events designed to introduce the students as well as anyone else who comes by to food from another culture. If you are a student admission is free but for anyone else you have to pay a small fee of $5. Each event centers around a certain food from a particular culture. I have been to taco nights, takoyaki nights and crepe nights. All were quite fun and the atmosphere was indeed festive. This is a great community-oriented school. While I can't speak for the quality of the classes I highly recommend checking out the Tea Time or Festive Fridays. Both are excellent opportunities to work on your language skills and get to know more about the school.

The classes are small and the Italian instructors are really good from my experience. They talk slowly and clearly and really emphasize speaking Italian in class. I do wish the courses covered a little more material but it was still pretty good. I've also taken lessons with their ski school and it was great. The price includes transportation to and from the hills, your lift ticket and two hours of instruction. The program is 7 weeks long. They take you to some pretty great hills like Owl's Head and they give you enough time to get in a good day of skiing. The day of the skiing outing was always well-organized. the bus always showed up on time at the designated stop and we left the mountain on time as well which was great when you had to be back in the city for other commitments. I was also very impressed by the level of instruction. My group's instructor was great for beginners. She was incredibly patient and really paid attention to what every student was doing so she could offer useful feedback. They also had lessons for more experienced skiers who were looking to improve their skills a bit.

At about 350$ to 410$ for an evening class (6h per week for two months) the classes are not cheap, but well worth it since the teachers are mostly very devoted and the learning atmosphere is good and efficient.

I was late for the test and she made me apologize to everybody in the class, which threw me out!!! It was my fault that I was late but she officially made me feel embarrassed by forcing me to say sorry to the whole class!!!! It was horrible!! :( But I wanted to learn French so I said sorry to the class and took the test, which I regret doing it.... HOWEVER after I finished the test, she even approached me saying that she was angry at me because I was late for the class!!!! Mariam was really rude and I found she is not professional as a teacher so I quit the school! There are better other french schools out there!

The cost of…read moretuition really cannot be beat: as a Canadian citizen, the cost of the program is $55 for the first level you take (2 months), $10 for the second, then it alternates $55/$10 for further levels. My binder full of printed exercises basically accounts for my entire tuition fee. Because the Centre Saint Louis is a government sponsored program, they can't advertise in English and rarely show up on search engines. Basically everyone in my class heard about the program through word of mouth. We're all really happy we found it. If more people knew about the program I'm convinced most language schools would be out of business because the QUALITY and affordability of this program is awesome. The staff are super friendly and they truly care about the students. I have no doubt I will be bilingual after completing all the levels (takes about a year). We even have a social worker to help with any aspect of Montreal life. Go here! You won't regret it.

Classes run Monday to Friday mornings or afternoons (20 hours per week) or Monday to Thursday evenings (16 hours per week). Additionally there are less intense classes on Saturday or Sunday morning. These cater especially to parents, aided by the free child care available on site. At only 50$ per course, this is pretty much the most affordable option to brush up on your French in Montreal. The school is government subsidized. Keep in mind that if you are not a resident or citizen of Canada, you are only eligible to 6 months of classes at this Centre. Classes consist of about 30 students each. I found that the quality varied a lot depending on the teacher. Class material is very much tailored to the need of new immigrants, covering topics like job applications or renting an apartment. Thus you learn useful survival skills like how to write a CV or to understand a typical Quebec lease while practising French.

Students come in from all over the world and it is a very comfortable learning atmosphere. Every level takes 2 months to complete and there are 6 levels in total. If you wish to continue after level 6 there are 3 more levels dedicated to written french. Every class gets a field trip day to explore Montreal, for example a trip to city hall or Apple picking which makes for a fun and sociable experience. I would say the school is very well run. Some teachers are better than others so I suggest getting comfortable with your teacher and if you do not connect with your teacher request a change.
