I absolutely LOVED Leah. She was so helpful with continuing my breastfeeding journey. My daughter was 6 months old when I noticed a dramatic decrease in my supply. I had gone from pumping 5-6oz to 0.5-1oz total. She came to the rescue and evaluated me. After that, she got me in touch with someone that does functional health testing for postpartum moms. Turns out, there was a lot more going on with me than I bargained for. Now that I know how to fix my supply issue, with Leah's help, I finally pumped 7oz tonight. I was hesitant to post a negative review on Yelp because they are not anonymous. In the end, I decided that it was worth doing so, as I do not want other mothers to go through what I did. I imagine that there are other mothers who feel the same way and it is why the posted Yelp reviews of Leah are positive. To make this review as succinct as possible, Leah was insensitive to my obvious sleep deprivation and aggressive with my four day old baby. Her "consultation" was forcing my newborn to the breast as he cried. My son was so upset by the experience that he stopped feeding for hours after the consultation. We ended up having to take him to the ER and he was hospitalized. despite having discharged early with a clean bill of health. In fact, we had just visited the pediatrician that morning. Once he was rehydrated, he latched on fine and was able to feed (thank God), but we had a traumatic three day admission as they kept him for testing and monitoring due to his age. Looking back on the experience, the thing that most left a bad taste in my mouth about Leah was that prior to leaving our house, she continued to market her "expertise" in diagnosing latch issues-- advertising her follow up prices to my spouse despite the fact that mom was obviously distressed and had already left the room in an attempt to nurse peacefully. What made me even more suspicious of Leah's "expertise" was that the lactation consultants at the hospital confirmed that my son had absolutely no issues with latching and that no follow-up appointments were necessary. If you do select her as your lactation consultant, be aware that she may tend to overdiagnose problems that are not there. How easy it must be to convince new, sleep-deprived and anxious parents of such "feeding issues". As for me and my husband, we regret ever contacting Leah in the first place. read more

I had a fantastic experience with Leah! I just had baby #2, and although I was lucky enough to breastfeed my daughter for 15 months, I wanted to make sure my son and I got off on the right foot to create a solid foundation for our nursing relationship. I'm a first time mom and I honestly thought it'd be no problem trying to breastfeed my daughter. I never imagined how much of a challenge it'd be. From the very beginning I had trouble getting her to latch. I was only able to successfully do so with the help of the lactation consultants at the hospital. Once we came home, I was on my own and struggling again. My husband came across SOS Lactation and reached out to Leah as I needed more guidance. She came the same day we called, which was a huge plus. I cannot even begin to express how helpful Leah was. She spent a couple hours with me and taught me how to successfully get my daughter to latch. She also went over how to properly bottle feed as my daughter had been spitting up a bunch and eating too fast. Lastly, and this was also big, she went over how to properly pump. My daughter and I went to a different lactation consultant when she was about 10 days old. Since everything checked out ok with her latch, suck, and swallow, I assumed the constant pain, milk blisters, mastitis, and vasoconstriction were the cause of something I was doing wrong. When my daughter was a month old and still having breastfeeding issues, I called Leah, who was referred by a friend. She completely turned our stressful breastfeeding experience around. Her calmness and reassurance throughout her visits were very helpful to me during my distressed state. She diagnosed a posterior tongue tie that the doctors in the hospital, the other lactation consultant, and our pediatrician had missed. She referred us to a pediatric dentist in town and gave us exercises to help improve her efficiency while feeding. I should mention that my pediatrician later agreed with Leah about the posterior tongue tie. After getting the ties corrected and doing the exercises Leah gave us, my daughter and I are doing great and truly enjoying breastfeeding! My daughter is now 2 months old and I hope to keep breastfeeding as long as we can. This is such a difference from just one month ago when I was almost ready to give up. Leah was awesome. I would probably not still be nursing without her. I had mastitis three times in the first five weeks postpartum and she really helped me get through it and prevent it. She gave me lots of useful information about breast feeding in general, as well. She is also just a really fun person and was very good with my baby. Leah came to our home when our little was 4 days old. She helped me with our latch to ensure I didn't get sore - saved me! She also caught my early onset mastitis! She saved me from getting it bad and having to go on antibiotics! If it weren't for her I would have had a big problem. Leah is absolutely amazing. I was referred to her through my chiropractor to help assess my son for ties and work through some challenges we were having (pain on my part, shallow latch and other issues on his). I contacted her and she came to my house for an in-home consult just a few days later on a Saturday! It was a 3 hour consultation and I learned more in that 3 hours than any of my other breastfeeding classes/research combined. We went through everything (latch, assessment of my son, concerns, pumping, bottle feeding, and so much more). I felt an immediate sense of relief. After we got my sons ties revised, we also did weekly sessions with Leah for 4 weeks - they helped him so much. I was confident he was healing well and Leah provided updated recommendations each time to meet him where he was at. This review is a long time coming!! Oh I am just overjoyed and overwhelmed all at the same time! My story may seem crazy... but after my 4th baby I could not get her to latch! I even refused LC after birth in the hospital because... well, my other 3 babies latched and I was surely no novice!! Well, we got home and baby still wouldn't latch! As recommended by my pediatrician..I called Leah.. it was a Tuesday.. she made time that day to come and see me, amidst her busy schedule.. she came same day!! She arrived, she was calm and encouraging. She put me at ease. Her voice, her touch. It was all so very overwhelming just not having my 4th baby play by the rules.. but Leah made it all so much more manageable. Well, long story short, we couldn't get my babe to stay latched. Leah taught me how to be patient with my little one, she encouraged me to never give up if this was something I wanted.. I have nothing buy positive things to say about Leah. I contacted Leah after concerns that my baby might have a tongue tie and I would have issues with my breastfeeding journey. Leah was able to provide me with comfort and confidence on my breastfeeding path. Leah was extremely prompt in scheduling a time to meet and was very professional working in our home. During Covid, she practiced all necessary precautions, sanitizing and disinfecting frequently and wearing a mask and gloves at all times. Leah not only provided with me valuable information to support my baby and my own breastfeeding technique, but she also provided my husband with tips and tools on how he could support our baby's feeding journey. Leah looks at the mother and baby as a whole and develops a plan of support to match accordingly. She was very knowledgeable, professional, and supportive. SOS Lactation is a best in class operation. My husband and I took a very helpful and candid breastfeeding class with Leah a couple months before our daughter's birth. We then opted to call her for an in-home consultation after struggling with establishing breastfeeding in the first few days postpartum. Three different lactation consultants visited us during our three days in the hospital and each had different advice, some of which was conflicting. By contrast, Leah was kind, reassuring, provided clear instruction and support, and answered all of our questions. She continued to field my occasional concerns extremely quickly via text or phone call, helping me to navigate through a couple painful bouts of mastitis. Our daughter just turned 1 and is thriving. I keep meaning to write this post as it is long overdue! I just want to share that Leah was my postpartum angel when our pediatrician told us our little one wasn't gaining enough weight and recommended supplementing with formula. Immediately after leaving that appointment, Leah was recommended to me by a friend. Leah was at our house in no time, and within minutes of entering our home she found our son to have two ties and in major need of body work. I actually previously had our baby evaluated for ties by the lactation consultants at the hospital as well as two pediatricians.... and it was in that moment when Leah was at our house for the very first time that I began to learn just how valuable a TRUE lactation consultant is in the world of breastfeeding. For those newer to this world, Leah is an IBCLC. This alone, makes her one of the best. Working with Leah was an absolute pleasure ! I am a first time mom that decided to proceed with an out of hospital birth. I started my journey at the Birthing Place a wonderful center that provides a complete experience of natural birth care. Afua Hassan , my midwife connected Leah and I. From the moment we spoke on the phone I knew great things would come to past. The day after my birth I scheduled an at home visit for breastfeeding consultation/appt. Leah made sure I was well informed from the time We set the date. She provided me with different tips and tools I could use following up to my appt. When we actually began the appt she went back on those tips and further explained them. She also showed me many positions I could use while nursing and how to properly latch. She also informed my husband I knowledge on self expressing/expressing. She not only explained but sent a follow up email that included actual visual examples of expressing. We cannot say enough good things about Leah. Even as a pediatric nurse practitioner, I learned a WEALTH of breastfeeding knowledge from Leah. I initially had an appointment with her one week postpartum, but had a complication on my C-section site that put me back in the hospital. She was more than understanding of my last minute cancellation. While in the hospital, I met with numerous lactation consultants the week I was there. NOTHING/NO ONE helped. Moreover Leah kindly checked on me through text and even gave me pumping tips when baby wasn't with me. When I was discharged, I immediately contacted Leah again. At the first consultation, I was defeated and almost ready to throw in the towel. Leah was kind and non-judgmental. She helped guide me to some goals and after that the next few weeks were smooth. We had some tools to feed with a nipple shield and it worked. She initially advised an evaluation for some tongue and lip tie concerns. Leah was informative and not pushy at all. She provided me with research materials and we were able to make the decision that was best for our son. After his procedure we met with her again and she supported us through post-procedure exercises and some basic body work. Leah was (and still is 11 weeks later!) super encouraging, quick to respond, and validating in our decisions. She continues to be available for us through text and we are so happy she is! Leah truly provided "S.O.S." services for my baby and me. Unfortunately, the lactation consultants at the hospital where I delivered were too busy to help with the nipple soreness/latch issues we faced. I was discharged on a Friday before the July 4th weekend. That weekend, my milk started coming in, and with my baby not latching, I was panicked for how to relieve my supply as I was fearing that I would get engorged. Referred by my doula, Leah came the same day I called her on that Sunday! She has always been very prompt to answer phone calls, text messages and making in-person consultations. Thankfully, Leah also suggested that my baby had tongue-tie (something that we kept asking the nurses and pediatrician at the hospital, who incorrectly said no she didn't have it!), and we got it diagnosed and fixed the next day by her recommended pediatric dentist. Still, my baby was having a hard time breastfeeding, so Leah worked with me on the next best thing: exclusively pumping. At first, I was pumping very low volumes, but within days, we were able to bump up my supply quite substantially. By the following week, I had almost enough breastmilk pumped to keep my baby full throughout her feedings! There were many other smaller issues that Leah helped us resolved, and to keep this review from getting too long, suffice to say she's a very dedicated lactation consultant and you can't go wrong with her. If I had to do it all over again, I would've asked her to visit me the day after I delivered instead of waiting until discharge. read more

I was having concerns about my milk supply for my newborn and contacted Leah. She was very professional and responded quickly to my need for a consultation. In less than 24 hours she was at my home prepared to answer my questions. She provided tips and even weighed my baby after a nurse session. I was having trouble nursing my baby properly- he was getting way too much air and making him fussy all the time. The techniques that the lactation consultant teaches you at the hospital is great for when your baby is up to 3weeks old. I needed to relearn the proper positioning for me and my baby as well as pumping. I really thought I could do it on my own- how hard could it be, many women have breastfeed before. I was so stubborn to reach out for help and thought that my son experiencing the excessive burps was normal. When he turned 6weeks old, I knew I needed help. I reached out to Leah and she was amazing!! She came out the next day and immediately nursing felt amazing! I can't recall a time I had such a special bond with my baby nursing. Leah's techniques and tricks were amazing! Right during nursing my baby fell asleep full and satisfied!! I never had that happen.
