Good pizza, love how they are original and making up new pizzas. The place looks like a cheap "hangover" pizza spot, but the food is better than that. But still, cos the place isn't that cosy I always take my pizzas home with me. read more

There are white walls with two brick pillars in the middle of the restaurant. I ordered the Capitano pizza, which was absolutely delicious. Organic Finnish dry-cured ham, mozzarella, smoked cheese, and almond green pesto. Crust was incredibly soft and chewy, which I think is key in any Neopolitan pizza. The flavors from the sauce and cheese were incredible. The pesto was mixed with the red sauce perfectly, slightly sweet taste. The ham was good, slightly salty but not too much. I forget what my friend got but it had salami and looked great. I included a picture. Service was excellent. Waitress spoke perfect English (I think most people in Helsinki do). Even though it wasn't the best pizza I've ever had, it was very good, and I'm going to give 5 stars because I think they deserve it. 4.5/5 if I'm being technical. I would go back without a doubt if I lived here.

Generally my experience is the tomato sauces available are just good. It's up to the cook/ chef to enhance it. The pizza dough was delicious, among the best we've had in Europe. Plenty of pie to eat, we did not finish ours nor did we take it to go. The environment was warm and welcoming, blankets available for some customers was a nice touch. It is centrally located right opposite the Helsinki cathedral and has a chill, laidback, welcoming vibe. Like most places in Helsinki, service was great. But, the food itself unfortunately felt overrated, at least based on the single item I ordered - a margherita pizza. I was looking forward to a good Neapolitan pizza but the dough was too soft and thin to hold the toppings, and the tomato sauce was almost liquid'y and dripping, making it very messy to eat. I actually struggled to cut the pizza with the provided knife because the dough was so thin; it would have been much easier if they sliced the pizza before serving. With flavors as subtle as that of the margherita pizza, the basil is such an important component and I wish they hadn't skimped on it - a little more would have definitely improved the dish.

I arrived at Skiffer after doing some research here on Yelp. I saw that it had a number of English reviews, which helped me understand it better, but it was also right next to my hotel (Klaus K) and so I decided to simply show up. It was just me, so I was hoping they had some kind of bar area where I could sit down and continue reading my intoxicating novel while sipping on a glass of wine and waiting for the food. And they did - yay! I'd read about the Fisherman's Friend pizza and although I'm typically not the person that would opt for fish, I did go ahead and ordered it nevertheless. Truth be told, the different kinds of fish on one single pizza did worry me a little, but in the end I was amazed on how well they complemented each other; the poached egg and the shaved fennel were simply the icing of the cake! The reason why I'm not giving 5 stars is because of the service. I know, I know, I hear it all the time: Finnish service isn't great, so don't expect anything else. But I don't know...I just don't think the two waiters were attentive. I understand they had a lot of hungry customers to feed, but being a single customer, I would have enjoyed a little extra attention. (This is at least what I've been taught, when I learned how to be a good waiter back in the days...) In other words, I just didn't feel like they cared about me as a customer. Nevertheless, the delicious pizza was a hit and in a way tamed me ;-)

This is not just sad because it is a sign that winter is close at hand but also because there is no place to get Liuska (their pizza) for several months. But the good news is that a new Skiffer opened in the center of Helsinki at Erottaja. Here you can now get all the amazing Liuskas you know from Luiskasaari and some more all winter through. And the team did their best to also give you some of the summer and sea atmosphere indoors at their new place. Skiffer Ravintola Erottaja is definitely worth a visit. Try for example the FG with duck liver, figs, duck filet and mustard seeds or Fishermen's Friend with small fish, smoked salmon, fish roe and egg. Enjoy! It's definitely the best pizza in town!

The really thin, crispy crust and correct sauce to cheese to topping ratio makes it just perfect for fast food. Nothing fancy about Koti, but if you are: hungry and need food fast, not in the mood to make dinner and aren't feeling very "experimental", looking for food on the cheap, stumbling home late, looking for a good gluten-free pizza, or just a fatty on the hunt for a fix, Koti is a great place. My favorite is the greek vegetarian (SO MANY vegetables). Tourists: Try the Berlusconi. There is a rich history behind this Koti creation. The setting is very nice and upscale and the service was good. I had half of a large pie with pepperoni slices (some places in Europe call it Salami) and bacon. However, these are personal preferences and do not take away from the pizza being good. Good flavor, good cheese to sauce ratio and a good portion size for lunch.
