I found Dr. Rafizadeh online and learned that he is a pioneering surgeon behind this specific surgery. He was also highly recommended by the Surgical Oncologist who did my Mastectomy (Dr. William Diehl). If you need a Mastectomy and want a new breast, I HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend having a Single Stage Mastectomy - Direct to Implant Reconstruction done by Dr. Farhad Rafizadeh and Surgical Oncologist Dr. William Diehl. (He and Dr. Diehl have worked together for years and are both such kind and thorough doctors). I relocated from Nashville to Jersey to be under their care and it is now two months after from my Mastectomy and I have zero pain, no lymphedema, no rehab needed, and a gorgeous breast that I feel great about. It was HUGE to be able to go through this process without losing touch with my femininity. Cancer had already spread to my nipple, so I was not able to do a nipple-sparing Mastectomy as I had hoped. Dr. Rafizadeh will construct a nipple mound and nipple in my second surgery. Dr. Rafidazeh is a true artist (literally. I called Dr. Momeni's office a total of three times to vet my insurance, the doctor, and his process before driving an hour for a consultation with Dr. Momeni. I spoke with two different women, including Shannon, and I was extremely thorough. I provided my specific UHC ID number and plan details. The first woman I spoke with told me they accept UHC "as an umbrella" no matter what the plan is. I didn't just take her word for it--I specifically asked for an official check to be efficient. She said sure, I know we take it but I'll "verify". She put me on hold and came back and said "Yes, we take your plan." I even called back a second time to double-check and was told "Yes" again. Momeni was scheduled as an early morning appt, I drove an hour, and took time out of my day. I filled out all the paperwork, gave insurance and Shannon came out and smugly announced they don't take my plan. Instead of treating me with kindness for their massive administrative error, she had a look of pure condescension and blamed me. She accused me of "putting myself in this position" by not disclosing my insurance--a flat-out lie since I gave them my ID number and they supposedly did an "official check" on it. When I responded that I would never do that, Shannon responded with a silent stare-down that lasted a full minute, and then said, 'We don't take your insurance' in a very stern, condescending voice. This was very disconcerting and patronizing. She behaved arrogantly and dismissive, as if she were trying to belittle me. It was frankly embarrassing to be treated with that kind of smugness after I had already double-checked my insurance with their office. And to be accused to deception is something that should have never happen.
