I am so disappointed in Soo Mill that I will never give them my business again. The roof that they installed for me three years ago leaked- a whole pail full through my dining room roof last February, and the most that they were willing to do for me was possibly dab silicone on all of the nails that they left exposed. This was unsatisfactory to me, as the nails were not the cause of the leak (though I am told that it shows shoddy workmanship not to do that in the first place.)
I got second opinions from two other roofing companies who told me that there were things that could be done to try to prevent future leaks, even after the fact. But Soo Mill took no responsibility for it, blaming it on the slope of my roof, inadequate ventilation (which they did not address when they did the job--the other companies said that ventilation is something that they routinely check as part of the job ), the fact that it is an old home, and our exceptionally cold winter. In my opinion, they were doing a roof for my home, with its slope and age and present ventilation, in Northern On. so they needed to do a roof that was suitable for those conditions. I had never had leaks with my old roof. If a three year old roof leaks, you think that your warranty will cover that. Are roof warranties only good in favourable weather, with new homes, with a certain slope of roof? Was I, a single, middle aged woman who has never been up on my roof, to know that my ventilation was inadequate?
The roofing manager hung up on me on the phone, and when I tried to go above him, Mr. Hollingworth was no better: He began the conversation with, " You're not going to like what I have to say"..before he even listened to me. In defense of their work, Mr. Hollingsworth actually said to me, "If it was a bad job, then explain to me why it didn't leak in the first two years". On what planet is it ok for a THREE year old roof to leak? And what about standing behind your work? Warranties? Not to mention customer service!! I always thought that Soo Mill was one of the most reputable businesses in town. I see that the Chamber of Commerce gave them a Customer service award last year. My experience says they did not deserve this award!! read more
