Moving from Temecula Valley to Carlsbad, waiting for our house to close was stressful enough as it is, now imagine trying to find a place to live and store your stuff for almost 3 weeks. The seller of the house we wanted was back and forth on us for months so I didn't even know if we would get the house. This is when I looked for month-to-month renting options nearby. I wanted a place near where we're planning to move so that I won't have to move my kids from their schools again. It was already stressful enough they had to transfer into a new school a month after it started, so I found this place. Jennifer, the Community Manager here, got back to me immediately, sent me an email and gave me the options they had available. She was responsive, sweet, and accurate with all the details I needed. I reached out to a few other places where the community managers either took weeks to get back to me or didn't seem too thrilled when I asked for a tour of the apartment. Jennifer offered the tour for me and got right to it when I arrived to look at the place. We moved from a 6-bedroom house into a 2-bedroom condo here, but we only needed it for 17 days, so I couldn't complain. I didn't even bother unpacking a lot of my stuff. The place is clean, updated, washer and dryer in the unit, plenty of storage space in the corner unit, and the place was very well maintained. Everyone we met here were really nice, offered help and one lady even came by and gave us a bottle of water while we were moving to welcome us to the neighborhood. I wished we got to stay longer and really enjoy this place, but now I'm just a few blocks away anyway. We ended up getting the house that the lady was back and forth on for 3 months, we got to take our time to move out since we had the place for a month, and even then, Jennifer remained kind and helpful through it all. You don't have to rent this place month to month like I did, but if you ever need an apartment in La Costa, I would definitely recommend this place. We have lived here for about 5 months now and we really like it! The property is really nice and in a quiet location. The property manager, Elonor is awesome! She made our move in process super easy and she is always quick to respond and address any of our needs. Maintenance requests are addressed quickly and can be done through their online portal which is convenient. We have had no issues so far with noise or other residents. If you are looking for a quiet location in a beautiful part of north county, I could not recommend this enough. Bressi Ranch is close by for grocery and food needs, and you also have Double Peak, Rancho La Costa, Elfin Forest and the beach all close by so lots of options for outdoor activity. read more

ZERO STARS! Well I am guessing that the property management has changed. I recently applied to this complex and since I am self-employed, they requested four months worth of bank statements. So I submitted five months just to go the extra mile. I was told that apparently Jose, the regional manager, didn't believe that I was actually self-employed. Perhaps because I probably make more money than him? So he requested my taxes on top of five months worth of bank statements. I am wondering if I was a man, would he have questioned if I was actually self employed? This situation reeks of chauvinistic behavior. So I withdrew my application. Incredibly invalidating experience and why would I ever want to live in a community where my self employment, and more importantly my word, is in question. And I have an absolutely flawless and perfect rental history for 30 years. Disgusting. read more

This apartment complex is a hidden gem. My family has enjoyed living at Sommerset La Costa for the past seven years. The complex is quiet with amazing friendly neighbors. The apartment has two balcony's with a very spacious storage area off the balcony. It has a pool and nicely heated spa area that we enjoyed occasionally. We valued the promptness of the manager and maintenance for quickly taking care of any issues and maintaining the property. We will dearly miss our time at this amazing property. The management goes above and beyond to make sure that the tenants who live there enjoy there stay. read more

This complex has a great location in La Costa-- it makes running errands very convenient. We love that our apartment has in-unit washer/dryer, dishwasher, upgraded kitchen, air conditioning and a garage. It is hard to get all of these things in the San Diego rental market. Live here if you like noise. Non stop. Kids screaming day and night in the parking lot. The management does nothing about it. The walls are thin (and so is the ceiling) so if you live in a downstairs unit you hear EVERYTHING. Things break all the time and they can't keep their maintenance people yet they raise their rent exorbitantly every year. I wouldn't do this again. read more

We took a wild chance and rented without seeing the actual apartment due to Sommerset being at capacity but Eleonor kept us informed each step of the way and when we finally moved in and our expectations were exceeded! Spacious bedrooms and bathrooms, updated kitchen, extremely quiet community at all hours, and tons of storage space. Eleonor the property manager is one the biggest positives of the property as she is personable and genuinely cares to make sure all tenants are happy. My family and I moved in at the end of March. I can't say enough about the management team! We were welcomed right when the Covid hit and we were given toilet paper that was such a must! Now several months later I love walking my dog because everyone is so nice! I really want to send kudos to the manger of this location because she is so caring and really wants to help! Ok, I Never leave a review,,,, i just could not beleive what I've read But i cant keep reading BS!!! This community was a great place to live for two years (2016-2017 some of 2018. When there was a manager available 24/7. Lets not blame the kids, thats un fair!! There is too much yelling and wailing from children tho and the blame should be cast to the parents!! There are kids who are obviously master manipulators, bc i don't ever hear the parents get control, sometimes the screaming is 20-40 minutes. And I've never heard it being capped off and controlled. Just the opposite, i only ever hear the kid. Never a peep or attempt to control and change this behavior by the parents. ( weak) ( seriously a lack of respect of others and awareness of surroundings. Believe the majority, which are, thumbs down and I do appreciate those taking ownership of their children's behavior, but they should not try and cop out by denying and name calling. And attacking another's review, especially a very true one! My opinion here , any good review of the new and current management and maintenance is getting an incentive, and it is all fabricated. (Lies) must be getting something for a 5star review. Who we need to direct the fault on to, is the parents of the kids. Its always the parents. If there is no reprimand or authority from the parents? than yes, no wonder the kids can do whatever they want. Now as for the new management, wow, Open houses on Mondays??? Huh?? I have seen a note on the leasing office door almost every day for the last 4 wks. And the only time I witnessed the doors actually open, was when my wife and i signed our lease renewal and for the next two yrs (locked rent rate) however we are breaking it and paying the penalty! Thats how bad!! ...TRUTH! the maintenance is even less active. Ive seen four residents leave, but only one apartment that was painted. Ive seen future possible renters waiting at a closed office door for the leasing management. I offered luck in there hopes of speaking with the manager. If the sign is up, you wont find them. I just could not contain myself when i read a very good review that was filled with lies of how wonderfully and available the new management and the availability of the maintenance, i was floored! 10/of10 residents will say the opposite of the glamorous review. I know 4 who left bc of managements unavailability, . Lastly, There are sneaky, irresponsible dog owners who think night darkness or wee hours of the morning, hiding in the shadows and they do not need to curb their Dog... or simply feel privy and getting away without being seen its funny to see, and watch the confidence they feel in ( their thought of being exempt) you know who u are. Not once have you fooled me. And ive seen your pathetic antics more than u think Any way needed to jump in and side with whoever "fairy" is. If you gang up and bully and respond to another's review, how guilty must you be Sad, really sad. Please work on your own responsibility, check urself b4 u wreck urself. Absolutely the best condo-apartment homes in the La Costa area! They have a wonderful manager named Jennifer who is thoughtful, organized and a great cheerleader for the community. Love the large units, big washer/dryer, quietness of the property and the storage garages. Leased sight unseen from Oregon and was not disappointed. The correspondence and photos sent to me state to state convinced me to rent here. Highly recommend!!!!!! read more

Amazing property that is centrally located to shops, restaurants, and a great school district right in the middle of La Costa. I just wanted to say how awesome and helpful the new management Danyele and Joe have been. They are always available and very prompt on getting any issue resolved, they're really nice people that go out of their way to make sure you're satisfied. I want to give an example... I've lived here 6 years and when we first came here it was family oriented, but then you had this "Fairy S" person, who is basically a living Grinch who has tried to take away that family feel away. Yes there are kids, but they are all great kids, who laugh and play. This "Fairy S" person makes up lies and exaggerates to make it sound like these kids are out of control, she makes up lies so they can't enjoy the outside to management or here on Yelp because she wants to bring people down to her level. So my kids were one of those victims, where with old management she'd make a complaint and old management would say your kids can't play outside (which is what's wrong with society, keeping kids on smartphones or tv, instead of being kids and playing outside). So recently I was throwing a tennis ball to help my daughter with her technique for softball and this "Fairy S" lady made a complaint we were hitting cars with a hard ball (we weren't even close to any cars and I'm a responsible parent who would be liable if we did, but this was a complete lie) and being loud... well once I talked with Danyele and she wanted to hear my side of the story, she told me my kids have rights as a tenant and we had the right to be outside. That was the first time in 6 years I was told my kids have rights as tenants and she made sure to find an area that we could practice that we were well within our rights as paying tenants and I really appreciated her looking into the details for us and giving my kids a voice. So if you're looking for a great family complex, that is very well kept, quiet, has great management, amazing schools, perfect location, and is very community oriented... this is the place for you. If your looking for an old folks home, that doesn't want kids to even be seen... maybe look for a nursing home somewhere else. P.S. this "Fairy S" person has lived here the whole time I have, so if it was so bad and so expensive... why are you still here? Because she knows how great this place is... don't let one bad apple's review, keep you from a great experience. read more

Well, we weren't able to lease from Sommerset due to timing, but wow, what a community! The apartments are generously appointed and spacious, and each unit has a garage and reserved spot. Uniquely, each unit also has ample outdoor space. Such a great value! Jennifer, the manager, is a rock star. I don't know where to begin. While she was across the country on her vacation, she was still working with us to see if we could get into a unit during our time frame. She is genuine and compassionate; she cares about her residents and neighbors. We ended up leasing elsewhere, but we will always recommend this complex to our friends and family who are looking for a great place to live in the Carlsbad area! Thank you, Jennifer! read more

My boyfriend and I were looking for a new apartment home. I reached out for a tour via email, expecting an automated or generic response back. Instead, I received the kindest email from Jennifer, the property manager. I set up an appointment to view and enjoyed touring the units and the property. Jennifer is probably the nicest, most efficient property manager I have ever met! While we did not choose to rent here, simply because we decided we want 3 bedrooms instead of 2, we cannot say enough positive words about our experience with Jennifer. In the rental industry, it's hard to find genuine people who care more about you finding what works for you rather than just filling another vacant unit. The property manager is super nice, but getting maintenance issues resolved, isnt going to happen. There is obvious water damage on our guest room ceiling, and the maintenance guy lives in TJ, so he is only available for an hour in the late afternoon. The grill on the patio has never been cleaned, and not maintained. The building are old. The only good thing is that they have no breed restricitons or weight restricitons. So if you have a pit bull or other "bully" breed they are welcomed with open arms. Thats the only reason why I added an extra star. read more

My husband, dog and I recently moved out after a year. We originally found this place because it seemed like the only place that did not have a weight/breed restriction. Like another reviewer mentioned, the buildings are old and we had loose outlets, rusty sinks, cheap remodeling, and very old kitchen cabinets as well--I agree that the place is overpriced for the condition of the condo. But I guess you are paying for the area, which is very nice and quiet. There is a new manager as of a couple of months, who is nice, but seems passive agressive and up-tight--not nearly as laid-back as the old manager (Liz) was. However, maintenance issues did get resolved much quicker by the new manager. The pool/spa and barbeque area is clean and rarely used. We had to move because a couple of months before our lease was up, the new owner told us that the condo does indeed have a weight/breed restriction. But regardless whether or not we had a dog or not, we were thinking about moving anyway just because of the state of the condo. Unless you are in desperate need of a condo in the Carlsbad area, I would not really recommend this place (unless you absolutely can't find anything else). read more

I have been a tenant for about 6 months and have been very happy with our decision to live here. Jen, the on-site manager, has been nothing but helpful and a pleasure to work with. Both she and maintenance have been on top of any questions or small fixes that needed to be done. We moved into one of their newly remodeled apartments, which was beautifully redone. I cannot speak to any of the older apartments, but our entire unit was completely updated with new appliances, fixtures, and flooring. The neighborhood is very friendly, but at the same time we have our own privacy. I can work from home b/ it is very quiet and I appreciate the natural light that comes into the apartment. My husband and I just moved out after a year at Sommerset La Costa and wanted to share our good experience with Yelpers. Do not be swayed by previous posts that bring up management and maintenance problems. This is really no longer true! Our condo was lovely and the maintenance superintentent responded immediately and enthusiastically to the small issues that came up. Additionally, we observed extensive renovations being done throughout the complex. The manager was extremely friendly to us and our dog and always welcomed us and the other residents to pop in the office for a chat. She cares very much about the conditions of the grounds and sees that the rules are followed by everyone. This is a beautiful, quiet street that is very close to the convenient Bressi Ranch shopping center. I am giving 4 out of 5 because it is not really set up well for children and often they play in the parking lot for lack of any other place to go. Other than that, you will enjoy a spacious 2bd, 2ba home with balconies, patios, and tons of storage(and garage!) Happy House Hunting! I have nothing but good things to say about living here. My wife and I moved here last year, and couldn't be happier. We live in one of the newly remodeled units which are very nice! The on-site property manager is very friendly, helpful and creates a sense of community. We had some smaller maintenance issues, but those were remedied right away. It's quiet, everyone is very nice, the units are large, and also have a lot of storage. Another huge plus is the parking...we have both a space and a garage. I lived at Sommerset La Costa for four years. Recently moved out, was sad to go. It's a great, safe community for families and children. Pet friendly, where four legged family members are treated kindly, with bowl of water and treats by the office front door at a ready. Spacious, lovely condos and great, polite and friendly neighbors. Quiet and tranquil. I think what makes this place special is the sense of community, there's a monthly news letter with goings on, gatherings for holidays, Halloween costume competitions and always a bowl of candy for children at the front office, even when it's not Halloween, and so much more. We've been looking for apartments with short term leases in or near Carlsbad CA for the past 2 months and all were either too expensive or couldn't get answers because leasing was done at corporate level and hard to get person who even knew the property well enough to answer questions. Once we connected with Jennifer at Sommerset La Costa Apartments we knew it was going to work. She is sweet, competent, and was able to give a good price for a short term lease in a lovely and quiet setting with spacious 2 bedroom apartments and even a garage. She helped us move in and has continued to be responsive and welcome us to the community. We'd highly recommend these apartments whether needed for long or short term rental. read more

My husband, dog and I recently moved out after nearly three years. We want to recommend it to others. It is peaceful and the manager Liz is helpful. Maintenance issues are resolved quickly by Kip, who is also kind and loved playing with our dog. The pool and spa are clean and rarely used. The only drawback is that it is a dog-friendly establishment and with those conditins you always have people who are irresponsible. In ohter words, they take their dog out without a lease and it runs up and hustles your dog or they simply leave the poo in the front, grassy area or they let their dog pee in your front walk-way. If you are a decent, humane, dog-owner then you probably know the drill. Other than that, it was quiet, safe and reasonably-priced. read more

The manager is is so sweet and bends over backwards in taking care of any issues that may arise.
