Who can complain about a wine bar in Helena? It's a little small, so seating is sometimes a problem. Nevertheless, the service is always good and they also have a good food selection to go with your wine. The only room for improvement that I see: they need to stock some more premium wines for the discerning palate. I suggest the cholocate fondue and a dessert wine that, when paired together, offers a perfect post-dinner indulgence. Skip dessert at your restaurant of choice and come here for a stellar end to your night. read more

Sommelier's is a wine bar adjacent to Bert and Ernie's. Both restaurants are part of the same operation, though the ambiance is quite different. Sommelier's recently changed their menu to offer tapas (small savory dishes). This was a mistake... While the food is better than you can find next door at Bert and Ernie's, it is outrageously priced! Prepare to pay $7.00 for one slice of baguette bread topped with smoked salmon. I've experienced good, affordable tapas before, but this is not good enough for those prices and the portions are simply ridiculous. They're trying waay too hard - and failing. Go for the wine flights, perhaps, but plan to eat appetizers and/or dinner elsewhere. (Do not get fooled into ordering from the cheaper Bert and Ernie's menu). Their food is wretched. read more

The chef is very creative! I had the special: scallops in a molé sauce and it was TO DIE FOR! I had to resist my temptation to lick my plate clean. Service was great: the waiter recommended an excellent wine pairing. Cozy, fancy atmosphere. I will definitely be returning! read more

Skip the wine bar and go into Bert & Ernie's. They're much nicer in the bar/restaurant. Bar tender in wine bar was a jerk & closed early due to not enough business..... Gee, I wonder why? read more

Have been here a couple of times while visiting my cousin who lives here. I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to wine menus, and Sommeliers does an okay job with their wine list, but honestly, for a place named after wine experts, it could be much better with more interesting choices. That said, there *are* some good wines on their list, and the prices are in line with what you'd expect to pay elsewhere. We had the Honig Sauvignon Blanc this time, which was nice for a hot summer day. Their food menu leaves something to be desired though... Nothing really looked appetizing, even the charcuterie plate (I saw one on the table next to ours. Very mediocre offerings there). The prices on the food can also only be described as "obscene". I went the un-wine-bar route and got some sweet potato fries from the restaurant attached to the wine bar. Eat before you get here. read more

Go to the Hawthorn instead. Outdated selections that rarely change, overpriced wine, extremely overpriced mediocre food, and pretentious, bad service. The environment is nice and it's still wine so I gave 2 stars. Overall though I won't return as long as the Hawthorn is open! read more

A great decor that looks like an entry from hgtv design star (in a good way) makes this place welcoming even when it was basically empty on a Tuesday night. The service was ok (no better), but the wine was good and well priced. What let this down by far was the food - $22 for a very poor cheese plate where every cheese was basically a generic similar taste that seems to have been chosen based on shelf life rather than taste. Needed less cheese, and better quality (same goes for meat). Flavored cheeses are not an alternative for quality cheese. Needed to be $8 or substantially better. read more

This is my new haven in Helena. I stumbled on it last night. I'm in the area to see family. The server Kristin was so nice and friendly. I was impressed with the wine selection and cozy atmosphere. My only complaint would be the prices of the appetizers and food. $22 for a cheese plate is laughable. Still I'm definitely going back. read more

Great wine, delicious desserts, adequate service, but the cheese platter could have been better stocked from wall-mart. Seriously there was bologna and pastrami that i assume came out of an Oscar Mayer package and cheese that I know came from the dairy section at Safeway (Havarti with dill, Tillamook cheddar, Red Windsor,etc.) . However in all honesty i will go back; Great atmosphere, great time, great wine. read more

I won't be going back here anytime soon. It's a shame too, as I was planning an evening out with my wife next month and had planned on including Sommelier's as part of that evening. After last Saturday though, I think we'll be taking our bussiness elsewhere. We stopped for a glass of wine, the "Sommelier's" sign and the OPEN sign were still turned on, yet when we went in we were told they had closed early due to a slow night and we would have to come back someother time. It was 9:30 pm. On a Saturday night. How do they expect to have anything but a slow night if they close that early. I guess if they don't want my bussiness, I won't give it to them. read more

When recently visiting Helena, Montana, I stopped in at an old favorite restaurant, Bert and Ernie's. Since my last visit, owner Toby DeWolf has added Sommeliers, a wine bar, as part of Bert and Ernie's. I decided to try it out, and it was a thrilling experience. Sommeliers has a cozy upstairs lounge, with overstuffed chairs and an intimate setting, as well as downstairs seating. The wine list is to die for, with the addition of a large selection of wines on tap, and Toby is extremely knowledgeable about All Things Wine. But the real treat for me was the new tapas menu, which is always changing. Toby and chef Sean Ehlert serve up the most succulent tapas, each more delicious than the next. The night we were there, my party and I ordered pan-seared tuna in 5 spice with wasabi mashed potatoes, tiny Vietnamese tacos with buffalo or chicken with garlic lime aoili, pan-seared scallops with a Flathead cherry reduction and creme fraiche, a caprese salad with whipped goat cheese mousse, and beer-braised chicken legs with a cherry reduction. Needless to say, we never made it past the tapas! Better than anything! read more
