We went there around midsummer time, which is a magical time of year in the Nordic countries because it never fully gets dark. We were in Stockholm visiting and just kind of winging it with plans for the evening. We were on a water taxi and saw Gruna Lund in the distance- the crazy swing ride caught our eye and we knew we had to go. We got to Gruna Lund around 7PM so still full daylight. Since we got there only a few hours before closing time, we were offered 50% off on our tickets plus the ride pass included with entry. It was still early enough in the summer that Stockholm was not yet flooded with tourists and it was a pretty cold day so the park was not very crowded. It was the best part of my trip to Stockholm. The rides are actually insane. I'm a roller coaster junkie and this place blows any US park away!

For me the entire place felt 'dated' and a bit shabby (although many things may have been referbished since my last visit). But I am from the Midwest, and amusement parks and carnivals are everywhere here. I don't know how many amusement parks like Gröna Lund actually exist in Europe, but however many, I have only been to 4 of them: 1). - TIVOLI in Copenhagen (which may be the BEST Amusement Park in the world), - 2). - PRATERSTERN in Vienna (which is actually a grand old fashioned amusement park with a classic look, and "Top New Rides", - 3). - OCTOBERFEST IN BERLIN: a once a year carnival run mostly by volunteers, (which I thought made things happy & fun). Most of the "Actors" were teenagers with a lot of energy, who probably looked forward to this gig all year long: because really, what could be better than jumping out of a "spook-box" on the "Scary Ride", and frightening some child so traumaticly that they scream and pee their pants. Now That's Livin'. and my mother took me to... 4). - AN AMUSEMENT PARK IN SPAIN when I was 12, which scores right about at the bottom, mostly because it felt dangerous, which Gröna Lund never did. We…read morefinally decided to check out Skansen two days before midsummer, mildly apprehensive about the entrance fee since we still couldn't figure out what Skansen was about, but we hoped there would be midsummer decorations. There was confusion about the train route and after speaking to the gate agent, skipped the extra fee for the train to go up the hill. We were here to walk. At first glance, Skansen is a living museum of how things were done in the olden days, replete with actors. There were no midsummer decorations, though I was told the main thing was the may pole, which we had already seen erected on another archipelago. A delightful surprise was the animal farm (with an almost free roaming peacock) and the Nordic animal zoo. This accidental stumble on animals (bears, bison, reindeer, etc) was my favorite part of Skansen. Overall a neat place to spend an afternoon. Would recommend!

Not that you'll find crazy rides but there's entertainment for kids with some rides, plus not to mention the lounging areas, the animals, and so much more. Came here walking from our hotel , you can catch a bus, and it was just beautiful. I highly recommend a visit. This can be an almost all day thing or just come for a few hours like we didn't.

Loved walking over the bridge (and of course under) watch out tho, we noticed that it does get a little slippery with the gravel on it. We were suppose to buy an ice cream but when we came up to the cafe no one was there. Then my kids started fighting so we left. haha. If you find yourself on the south side with kids then try this nice playground. I can't say much about the history because I didn't have time to read the sign. Next time tho, cause I'm sure it'll be a next time.
