The reception experience gets 1 star. I had two appointments, a week apart. Both times, the middle-aged Hispanic woman at the reception desk ignored me while I stood in front of her face. She was typing away. I've been a secretary for 35 years and I don't let anyone enter my office without acknowledging their presence within 5 seconds- even if it's to say, "hello, I'll be right with you". It was so unbelievably long that I decided to walk away and go have a seat. Once I sat down, the woman flung open the glass door and asked how she can help me. That alone is enough to make me never go back there. Dr. Somers is hard for me to deal with. I just think our personalities don't mesh. Sometimes it feels like she's talking down to you or making you feel like what you have to say is ridiculous or doesn't make sense. She seems judgmental and I don't feel like she listens purposefully at all. Now just some "bedside manner" things... while you're laying in the bed with your feet in the stirrups, your coochie is facing the door to the room. The nurse stands at the bottom end of the bed with full view and during my last visit she had to leave the room meaning opening the door while I'm laying there wide open. That's very uncomfortable. When your visit is done, Dr. Somers closes the stirrups without pulling out the foot rest which helps you push yourself up. You're left to dangle with your feet hanging and need to use the stomach muscles to sit back up which isn't comfortable after certain procedures. I don't like that she doesn't leave the room while you're getting dressed. I see someone else addressed this as well. Yes, there's a curtain so you can get dressed in a little corner, but she sits and types her after summary while you're getting dressed. That can be done in her office. Patients appreciate privacy. I think she's a good doctor as far as her work itself goes, but the human to human experience leaves a lot to be desired. read more

First time seeing dr somers at temple health Elkins park location. I have had four different obgyns over the past four years as for some reason they are either switching locations or retiring. Seemed very nice when I met her. She goes over my health history and seems very judgmental. I asked her about issues such as endometriosis and pcos for more information relating some of my symptoms and she quickly told me that I couldn't have pcos as I get my period. Swiped all other concerns off the table and quieted that issue. She spoke very loudly as I could hear the entire conversation she had with another patient next door to me .i can only assume other people heard my private conversations as well. She then goes to tell me she's giving me some motherly advice. Then goes to belittle me and decisions I've made and I left feeling judged . I never had a doctor stay in the room with me while getting dressed but guess her typing was more important than my privacy. I asked her if we were finished and she continued typing and said you're good to go. I responded with , it was nice meeting you and she said uh huh you too. I heard she's changing offices but I guess since I was a first time patient, she didn't feel the need to let me know. I will be looking for a new obgyn who will hopefully be more mindful and respectful. This is the first time I have left an obgyn office feeling judged. I don't need motherly advice, I need a doctor who is professional and is going to look after health issues and address health concerns in a respectful and appropriate manner. read more

I loved her father and was a patient of his for years. After he retired most of this patients were pushed in her direction. She was very judgmental during the entire process and not very nice to me. I changed doctors. This particular facility is nice, but the one on bustleton is terrible. You can hear everything going on in the other exam rooms . read more

Pros: Dr. Somers: I was just there for a very brief appointment, but I felt Dr. Somers did a good job in educating me and addressing my concerns. I felt she was thorough, honest, and to the point. She was also personable. Pt Room: Very clean and organized. The Medical Assistant that took my vitals and did some other things did a great job. Cons: Front Office Area: I believe it is a HIPPA violation to have your patients' name on a page you sign in at for everyone to see--it might not be, but as a former healthcare worker, that was a big no-no. I waited 20 minutes after my scheduled appointment time to see anyone and I was the first appointment of the day. Also, at 8:30am when I walked in for my appointment all the nurses were up front eating Chinese at their desks. There was also an empty yogurt container on the counter in the reception area with no owner. Gross and unprofessional. read more

One of the worst experiences of my life. I went to this woman from a recommendation from a friend. I had to wait an hour and a half in the waiting room before I was seen and the woman at the desk made me feel like an idiot for going up to the "family doctor" desk instead of the "gyn" check in desk like it was some big deal. Finally I get in to see Dr. Somers, for my first ever gyn experience. I went because I wanted to get on birth control so Dr. Somers was asking me all these questions and I was completely honest with her. She was so mean to me, told me she didn't believe me about stuff and said that she has no guilt about speaking her mind because she's Jewish. I'm more of a quiet person and I was trying to be polite as she is sitting here belittling me for absolutely no reason. I was crying in my car after leaving this place because of how bad she made me feel. Switched to another doctor and I am so much happier, very short wait time and everyone is so nice. I would NEVER recommend her. read more

Dr. Somers is amazing. She is now part of the Temple Women's Health Group at Elkins Park. I had problems that were misdiagnosed and she nailed them, along with my internist and other doctors who now practice together and focus collaboratively on women's health issues.
