Here's my experience: After struggling with an ongoing eye issue and visiting several different ophthalmologists who unfortunately were unable to treat or properly diagnose my problem, I went to dr. Gutmann for another opinion. I am so relieved and grateful I went to him. First of all, his demeanor is very sweet and patient. He is a very intelligent and very well educated man and yet he does not treat his patients any differently. I witnessed the way he approached several other patients that day from different backgrounds and he is truly an upstanding guy, very respectful and kind. A genuine man who has a passion for what he does. He took the time to listen to my concerns and explained what he thought was going on. He then used a different eye drop to diagnose my condition, and sure enough he found the problem. At least now I have answers and will proceed accordingly. I am very happy I went to him and I encourage anyone to get a second opinion from him when in doubt. I will never go to any other eye doctor again.

He diagnosed it as a rare eye problem (iritis), asked about other medical symptoms not related to my eyes and helped diagnose a rare genetic back condition. He was great about followup and really friendly as well. Everything is still old school--reservations by phone, pay by cash or check--but totally worth it for the quality of the experience.

In an era where these…read moremedicine men buy MRI scanners to which they refer every patient they see, from those with IAC earwax to those whose Chiari malformations were diagnosed long ago, Doctor Wright is a true gem, the antithesis of uncaring, incompetent, perfunctory and generally crappy health care. There has NEVER been a time that we have consulted Doctor Wright and he has not made us feel as if we were his ONLY patient, his tantamount concern and indee his raison d'etre for becoming a physician. The mold was broken when his M.D. was minted and the only real problem is that there are not about 100,000 other providers exactly like him. Rush University Medical Center, marginal in so many other ways, should be looking for an entire medical staff of individual providers who embody his care, concern, compassion, thoughtfulness and competence. God bless, and long live, Doctor Wright.
