Also…read morethe correct address is 1550 Hendrickson Street (btwn Ave P and Flatlands Ave.) It's one block off Flatbush Avenue. But it is a wonderful parish community of many cultures, where Jesus and Mary are truly loved. There is a Charismatic Prayer Group that meets on Thursday evenings at 7:30 PM, where Holy Rosary is always said. All are welcome there and the Parish has many Youth activities and various Ministries, including a Vocation Ministry, Rosary Society, Youth Ministry, Faith Formation and three choirs: Adult, Youth, and Contemporary. They also sponsor various trips, retreats, and annual Pilgrimages. Check out their website, and on Facebook. They were recently named as one of only 20 churches in the United States to be a Dynamic Catholic parish. There is also a great gift shop (Suma Gift Shop) open after the masses on Sat evening and Sundays. Also they have Sunday Coffee, Cake, and Faith Sharing at 10:00AM. Anyway, I enjoy and love this parish. I wish though that they would say mass in Latin (the True Faith way), and insist on a better dress code for EVERYONE!, especially their Ministers... but they're working on it. And hey everyone,,, let's go back to taking Holy Communion on the tongue.. this is the Body, Blood, Soul & Divinity of our Lord!!! Too much Novus Ordo everywhere : (

This is the closest church to my home for my faith and while I don't always go to this one it is…read morevery nice for mass participation and its overall modern feel. The main church is almost like an auditorium space and rather circular in some sense. There are plenty of pews to sit at and I've noticed in the past if I arrived before a parishioner who prefers a particular spot that you will get a look. I guess folks get set in their ways. In the back is an enclosed area with windows which was aimed at those with small children or babies. This ensures the crying does not disturb the mass. Depending on the holiday this area can be packed with all sorts of parishioners. I've been known to be in this space since I like to slip out a few minutes earlier than everyone else. The church is clean and comfortable (well as comfortable as wooden pews allow you to be). It is well lit and the speakers allow you to hear even the lowest talking reader or priest.

One of my godchildren was baptized here. Initially, I was putting in some calls to get some info…read moreabout that (it's every 2nd Sunday of the month btw) but the secretary or whoever answered the phone wasn't very cordial. I guess it's because you can get baptism info in their bulletin and it's something every parishioner should know.. but they don't have a website, so how are outsiders supposed to get the DL? The inside of the church is very lovely (see pictures!). The outside doesn't look like much and the priest mentioned a back courtyard, but sadly I needed to get to Penn Station to go home after the baptism so I didn't get to look around the perimeter. The priest was very nice and I enjoyed his homily. The ceremony was super quick and they didn't even kick us out of the church while we (us + the other family getting their kid baptized) were taking tons of pictures. Some churches are run like "businesses" and make you leave after "services are rendered". The church is literally a minute from the R train and there is that meter parking around there too. Kudos to the ladies room that is just to the right of the front entrance. haha The schedules are a follows: Confession: Sat @ 1PM Mass: Sat @ 5PM; Sun @ 8AM, 9:30AM, 11AM, 12:30PM, 5PM (Summer schedule: NO 9:30AM) Weekday Schedule Mon-Fri: 7, 8, 12; Sat 8AM 12PM

Sadly, this parish is a symbol of one of the…read morelasting establishments of Roman Catholicism in this neighborhood and within Brooklyn due to down sizing and lack of sufficient funding. I am truly thankful that the people within my parish and those that support the parish, are able to keep lasting traditions alive like the Giving Tree for Christmas time or Pasta/Soup night during Lent where donations are given to other parishes and organizations in need. The Church, built in 1943 (I believe) is modest both outside and within. The simplicity of the stain glass windows depicting parts of the Bible to the marble altar to the wooden pews to sit in, are reminders of how worship in a Church should be - to come worship and leave the cell phones and gossip at home. It's really worth to just stop by on off hours to just sit and pray or just walk around to clear ones head of all the craziness that our daily lives bring.
